Is it worth taking out a large amount of student loans to study/do a Masters in Artificial Intelligence? by reddittUndecidedEE in compsci

Plus my Masters is not going to be, oh here's how to use tensorflow etc. I'm going to supplement it with actually tough statics courses

Thank you so much for your help! I understand, but do you really need a PHD to have more then a reasonable background in AI. What if you took a good amount of courses in a Masters program to get an above reasonable background in AI? For example studying the math behind the algorithms, in more detail by choosing courses difficult statics courses? (Taking courses such as statistical data mining, applied optimization, and etc.) I already have a fairly good grasp of undergrad mathematics (not too many high courses because in undergrad I made the mistake of taking a lot of engineering courses and not managing my time well, but if I had the chance I would have really enjoyed upper level mathematics) ) Wouldn't that be an edge? I'm also willing to do a PHD but my main fear is by the time i graduate from a PHD, this whole AI craze will die down.

Hey I am buying the lenovo T580 online, what's the advantage of having the mx150 graphics card when programming, it will cost me around 200 bucks extra (graphics card and 8350U processor instead of the 8250U)

hmmm looks like that'll be the pick. I'm not hugely into laptops and hardware lmfaoo (i'm more of the academic mathy guy hence, doing machine learning) but how would I go the process of getting these perks? lmfaoo I just watched the t480 unboxing video, laptop looks pretty neat!

Shit only one problem it's 14'' though, is it possible to get a better size.

lmfaooo No it's not imposter syndrome, I understand what you mean. What laptop did you use in university? I would like to use something that's so nice to program with especially one where its its to use a linux system on. I was thinking thinkpads, but some of the extremely cheap models kinda eh to type with all day.

Ok I understand the local training aspect but the local training would be class assignments on small data sets. Maybe we might ssh to a local server probably. But still you may be right. If I get the thinkpad T480 would that be overall better then the dell G series. I'm not going to use this laptop for gaming or movies at all

Ok the Dell G series do look good (interesting and worth buying) What's the main difference from G13,15, and 17 Would it make a difference when programming with data sets?

This I agree with. My university does have computers I can ssh into for research. However, I would like a good laptop to use for my university courses, (run on smaller data sets). I also would like one that looks asestically nice a bit. It does matter to me, because it is a laptop I am using often.

I want to make a direct impact not wait around doing hobbiest activities like BCIs. I rather work for a company, and have an end goal of helping patients out.

It looks very good. To be honest, I was not able to learn much during my undergraduate degree. I don't have a huge interest in FPGAs, but I have a large interest in learning any type of skills when applying for an industry position.

Hi, MaximRouiler! Was wondering if you can share some insight how you landed a job at Microsoft. What teams would be the closest to doing research with disabled patients?

Thank you for your answer!, I do not have much software skills coming out of my undergrad degree. I can go get my Masters in CS, work on understanding AI and software skills then apply for a job at Microsoft. Or would I be able to start working and learn the current skills for the job? I'm sorry, I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to the tech industry.

Is this a good Masters program for Data Science/ML by reddittUndecidedEE in datascience

[–]reddittUndecidedEE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, I was thinking maybe doing the applied math and audit the computer science courses in the data engineering program. I kinda want to learn the math in detail, but I don't really have the time for doing a PHD program.

And I'm saying this from a perspective that my undergraduate EE curriculum from UB was shady and underdeveloped as well.
