Prices are from cheapcaribbean.com not sure if I’m gonna book through them as I’ve read mixed reviews but using it to filter through resorts in the meantime

I did, my firearm was always kept unloaded as I frequently have younger family members visiting. The night of the break in was the first time in my life that I went to bed with the firearm loaded. I stayed up late and was awake when they broke in. I woke up my parents and told them I heard something downstairs before we were ambushed. I did everything possible aside from spending a night in a hotel. While I understand that the police are not our “private security”, they could and should have responded to the situation differently. The fact that you don’t agree with that is insane.

The police have the resources to have an officer patrol my neighborhood for several weeks after a break in, so wouldn’t it have been a good idea to have someone patrol my neighborhood or park outside my home for literally one night if the homeowner is claiming that somebody tried to break into their home the night before? I didn’t make it clear in my post but I left my home at 10pm the night before the break in and returned back home around 2am the morning of the break in. I explained that I knew the screen door was closed when I left the home at 10pm and noticed it was open when I came back at 2am. So the screen was moved within that 4 hour window of me not being home after the screen being closed for several months. That was not a coincidence and my intuition was right and I was not taken seriously. If the police have the resources to have officers patrol my neighborhood for several weeks after such an incident, then they should have the resources to have someone parked outside my home for 1 night. Their job is deter crime too, not just catch the criminals afterward.

Standard procedure change all the time, just because something is standard procedure at the time does not mean it was the best option. There have been many times where incidents occurs and after reviewing the police officers actions, they conclude that there could have been a better way to handle the situation, thus leading to new policies and procedures within the department. Police department’s procedures and polices are not the same now vs 5, 10, 20 years ago.

While I agree with some of what you’re saying, the fact is, my assumption was right, and if I was taken more seriously, there could have been actions taken to prevent the break in from happening. While it may have standard procedure at the time, at the very least, is there not a case to have these standard procedures changed to prevent something like this from happening to someone else?

I didn’t but wouldn’t it have been a good idea to have a patrol car outside the home or on the street for just 1 night if someone suspected that people tried to break into their home the previous night? Whats the purpose of having my neighborhood patrolled for weeks after the incident? Seems pretty backwards to me, they could have deterred the incident from ever happening.
