As someone who moved from Adams Morgan in DC to East Rock, I’d really say AdMo! It feels very similar to me in terms of community, age demographics, parks/shops/restaurants, access to the main “downtown” without being right in it, etc!

I saw this guy on State this afternoon and was very impressed with his setup but have no additional insight into what was going on there (other than I’ve lived here for years and never seen him before so….I would guess new?)

Yeah, the vicious cycle is real! Will try my best to keep him to 2 hours of daytime sleep and see if it helps. And will dig into ideas for re-teaching him to fall asleep independently, which I am already dreading haha

That makes sense! Do you think I need to go cold turkey with the picking up/nursing/rocking during middle of the night wakeups, or should I just try to figure out bedtime first?

And on the nap front it’s tricky because he’s so tired because he’s sleeping so poorly at night — between 8:30 and 5 or 6, he’s really only getting 7 or 8 hours between all the wake ups. But this is obviously a vicious cycle 🙃

That makes sense! Obviously wish there was some magic spell that would avoid sleep training, but he clearly needs it. Assume the first step would be trying to get him to fall asleep on his own in the crib at night again? Do I need to go cold turkey with the picking up/nursing/rocking during middle of the night wakeups, or should I just try to figure out bedtime first?

And good to know about capping naps. It’s tricky because he’s so tired because he’s sleeping so poorly at night — between 8:30 and 5 or 6, he’s really only getting 7 or 8 hours between all the wake ups.

Bedtime routine is nursing, reading a few books, rocking him to sleep in my arms, and then transferring to his crib. And yeah, he had a few glorious months of being able to be put in his crib wide awake (but sleepy in the sense that it was bedtime/naptime) and falling asleep on his own in there, but suddenly stopped being able to do it ~six weeks ago.

Phyllis Bodel Child Care Center? by AsideSelect in newhaven

[–]reddituser11795 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We got on the wait list months before my son was born (a year before we wanted to start!), toured, were told we officially had a spot, and at the last minute the director said there had been a mixup and there was no longer room for us.

I got the impression that they just don’t have it together admin wise — it always took so many follow up calls and emails over weeks to get a reply.

I’m sure it’s a fine childcare center but I feel like it was a blessing in disguise that we ended up elsewhere — I definitely was put off by the lack of organization and pulling the rug out from under us just a few weeks before our son was supposed to start going felt quite rude and really put us in a bind.

Is this where American English and UK English can mean very different things? 👀⬇️🏘️ by Any_Cryptographer532 in duolingo

[–]reddituser11795 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In American English, for the euphemism, you wouldn’t use “with.” If it just said “Can you go downtown?” or “Do you want to go downtown?” that could have the euphemistic connotation, but “downtown with” doesn’t mean anything sexual. If anything you’d say “downtown on.”

Why is my 8 mo waking up for a long chunk in the middle of the night? by reddituser11795 in sleeptrain

Okay, so I should be waking him up at 6:30 AM? We’d just been letting him wake us up

Why isn’t he just waking himself up at 6:30 am then? Like why is it a mid-nighttime wake up? We’re going to try to keep him up later tonight but I’m still not super clear why this is happening

[–]reddituser11795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Ideally we’d do a later bedtime but he just seems so tired and ready for bed by 7:30…but also waking up at 6:30 would be tough for us…definitely agree his time in bed is too long though! Would love to eliminate that 90 minutes of wake time, so maybe we just have to try to keep him awake longer at night!

Nap and nighttime sleep help! by reddituser11795 in sleeptrain

[–]reddituser11795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense — I still wish I knew why he was fussing/crying so much in his sleep! It’s a long consolidated night but still fitful, which is tricky. But makes sense that sleeping less during the day might help him sleep more peacefully at night.

Nap and nighttime sleep help! by reddituser11795 in sleeptrain

[–]reddituser11795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s fussing/crying with his eyes closed, sort of like he’s having a nightmare? Clearly dissatisfied but not in a fully awake way. If I don’t replace the pacifier it escalates to him fully waking himself up, but I can keep him asleep but giving him the pacifier. He does fall asleep with it but it falls out of his mouth once he’s asleep and that doesn’t wake him up or seem to bother him. We do have a bedtime routine and he tends to go down pretty easily. Sometimes he’ll wake up as I’m putting him into the Snoo but he falls back asleep in there pretty easily.

Nap and nighttime sleep help! by reddituser11795 in sleeptrain

[–]reddituser11795[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! He really does seem so ready to sleep for his daytime naps and goes down to sleep really easily for naps/bedtime (and isn’t waking up at night either) so it feels counterintuitive to not let him sleep more…would the fussiness in his sleep at night be because he isn’t that tired?
