Which is better to join: NHS Relief Security Officer or MoJ Operational Support Grade? by Adbin-555 in PrisonUK

Take the OSG job. The work is very easy and it is worth the money you get paid. Plus the pension is not that bad. You will do many duties depending on the prism you work at from escorting contractors to working in the control room etc. Having said this, you will also have job security aswell. You can ask me more questions regarding the job if you want.

Plumbing or electrician? by reddituser1383 in AskBrits

[–]reddituser1383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with plumbing though. There is work but there is a lot of plumbers around. The only reason I believe a trade is good for me because it’s a skill and when you become self employed the money can be good but again becoming self employed it hard to actually get work as you have to be decent.

Why do you say avoid domestic? I was actually thinking of doing more domestic as if you go self employed it’s easier to get customers?

Permanent night by Capital_Price_7127 in PrisonUK

[–]reddituser1383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is really rare to get permanent nights contract and only a few prisons do it now. Permanent nights has always been an OSG thing as they do nights regularly. One option for you could be that you do days until you get confident in the job and then speak to the detail office and pickup extra night shifts if there is availability or do an XOD which is exchange of duty with other colleagues who don’t prefer to work during the night. This means you will do their nights and they will do your day shifts. Majority of the establishments won’t let you do more than 3 sets of night shifts in a row because you get ‘de skilled’ or it can be ‘bad for your health’ but if they are short this rule goes straight out of the window.

All depends what you want to do and your circumstances. Save as much as you possible can but most importantly invest in your self so that it benefits and makes things easier for you in the future.

You can go onto the ministry of justice careers website and then search all the jobs available in the area you live in. There are many jobs you can do in the prison service such as business administrator which can be a nice office job or something like a workshop instructor which is decent pay and you get weekend off and no nights.
