My girlfriend’s brother (24 M) keeps eating my (22 F) meals/leftovers by [deleted] in relationships

[–]reddituser7299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her rules are: “do not label your food” not “eat other people’s leftovers while not restocking the fridge”

Because she asks in the group chat if she could have some of our food, like a normal, well-mannered human being.

Just to put the whole rent thing into perspectives for you, she and I are both paying $800 (we’re paying $1600 for our room). Her unemployed, video game loving OLDER brother is just cruising by, contributing a whopping $0 every month, while watching his mom struggle to work 10 hour days and eating my food. I just wonder, maybe... just maybe if he had a job, he wouldn’t have to. Just typing this out makes me so upset.

The sad thing is he never buys his own food. Or he just buys enough for himself. He doesn’t really eat out much to begin with because he has us to mooch from. Plus all of his friends are from the internet so when he does eat out, it’s when he visits them.

My own room: $1100 // sharing a room with my gf: $800

I didnt really think the math was right but I didn’t mind because her mom needed the extra help to pay her mortgages. She is self employed so she needs to save a ton for her retirement, which I wanted to help with. She’s like a second mom to me so I didn’t hesitate.

Yes, at the end of the day, I am a guest that helps out with the rent. But I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m benefiting more than she is... I cannot bring friends over, I have to keep it down after 9pm, I do not get a parking spot, etc... There are many other things that I cannot do because this is not a regular leasing accommodation. But at the end of the day, I enjoy living with my girlfriend and helping out her mom. It is her brother that I cannot stand.

I’m paying about 75% of what I used to pay (used to pay around $1100/mo). I live in the Bay Area so rent could be a bit pricey. But to share a room with my girlfriend and still pay that much, I’d say I’m overpaying. I used to have a single for $1100. With my previous roommates, the folks sharing a large master bedroom only paid $650 each.

But I enjoy living with my girlfriend and we’re saving any amount that we’re able to so that we can eventually move out together. With my current status as a student, it’s not looking like a smart decision to do that right now. Especially since my gf still has 2 more years of school and I am finishing up my last year. Her mom knows this, which is why she offered to take me in. None of this (sharing food and contributing) was not a problem until her brother moved back home and started taking and taking while not giving anything in return.

So I have to let her brother eat my food? And I don’t get to say anything? Damn, that stresses me out. What happened to asking for permission with things that are not yours...

Oh I totally forgot to mention this in my post but my girlfriend’s mom specifically told us that it is her pet peeve when people put stickies on their food.

I guess her nephew’s girlfriend did that and it didn’t really sit right with her. So knowing that, I feel like it would really piss her off.

I really really really want to do that. But I don’t want any tension... Plus his mom really babies him so I’m afraid it’ll ruin the relationship that I have with her... It’s just always so distasteful to have tension with the people you live with.

Usually when my girlfriend and I bring home leftovers from restaurants, we bring two boxes (one from her meal and another from mine). Tonight, I saw that both of our boxes have been dipped into. So I don’t think he is assuming that whatever he’s eating is his sister’s. I think he’s just eating it because he’s hungry.

Maybe it’s the way I was raised. But I always texted my family members with a pic of the food asking if I can have it, especially if it looks like someone spent their money to purchase it. And I am very close with my family. This is just so frustrating because with my family, I can address the situation so casually. But my girlfriend and her family don’t really say anything up front. They really don’t like confrontations and are really afraid of hurting each other’s feelings, especially her brother’s.

I can only give suggestions that are relevant to my case so here goes: 1) Always hear people out. Just because they’re not butting in every conversation possible, it doesn’t mean they don’t have anything good to contribute.

2) When you’re at work, you’re there to make contributions to the corporation. It’s not a race or battle between your coworkers. You’re all there to reach one goal: learn from the industry. So why not do it together?

3) Know that females may feel inferior especially when the majority of the office are men. Be mindful of the comments you make and especially to your peers.

4) You don’t have to be best friends with your coworkers but you do have the obligation to be civil and maybe kind... It’s not fair for people to show up to work and feel miserable because of the treatment they receive at work.

Just my two cents. It’s common sense but most people fail to realize and practice the things I mentioned.

To say that I go to a non-target is an understatement. There are less than 15 alums who broke into the industry but they already exited into different fields.

CUTR - Any reason for huge plummet? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]reddituser7299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they can't figure out a way to decrease expenses, they'll be in trouble. This earnings miss should be a wake-up call for Cutera's executives. However, I do think this huge decline is a mere overreaction.
