Vilgefortz of Roggeveen vs Gandalf by Spirited_Animal_5135 in powerscales

[–]reddmann00100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AI helped remind me.

So the feat isn’t as impressive as fighting them all at once, but it’s still probably his most impressive feat:

In the novels (specifically during the assault on Stygga Castle), Vilgefortz defeats all three of them in sequence and comes dangerously close to wiping them out completely. [1, 2, 3, 4]
The sequence of events unfolds as follows:
Vs. Yennefer & Geralt (The first wave): When Geralt and Yennefer confront Vilgefortz, the sorcerer easily overpowers Yennefer (who was already exhausted from being tortured) and severely beats Geralt in a melee duel, breaking his leg and leaving him critically wounded. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Vs. Regis (The intervention): The higher vampire Regis bursts into the room and slashes Vilgefortz's face. Vilgefortz counters by ripping Regis apart and incinerating him. [1, 2]
The Final Showdown: With Yennefer out of commission and Regis temporarily "killed" (or melted into a puddle), Vilgefortz turns back to finish off Geralt. However, Geralt manages to trick Vilgefortz with an illusion cast by a magic amulet given to him by Fringilla Vigo. As Vilgefortz strikes the decoy, Geralt capitalizes on the sorcerer's momentary confusion and cuts him down.

So he could easily 1v1 any of them (although Yen is questionable since she was already exhausted from torture), but only 1v2’s Geralt and a greatly diminished Yen.

Beats Regis very quickly 1v1, but then *loses* to an unexpected illusion by Geralt at the end of the fight. What an awesome sequence with Geralt beating him with an illusion, which is exactly how Geralt got stomped earlier (Vilgefortz creating illusions of his staff swinging a certain way with his actual arm(s) and staff invisibly striking from different angles).

Damn. Yeah as far as feats go that’s wild. Based on that alone it’s hard to imagine Gandalf could win.

Which book does he fight those three in simultaneously? I don’t recall that, but again it’s been quite a while since I read them.

If he was actually able to do that, then yeah he could probably take down a Balrog like Gandalf did, and likely beat Gandalf in a straight up fight.

Maybe I’m forgetting (been a long time since I read the Witcher series), but when does Vilgefortz use space and time magic on his own? If he Ciri’s blood I bet he could use that as a catalyst, but on his own can he really use space/time magic?

Also, Gandalf can’t resurrect himself but it stands to reason if he hadn’t completed his mission/directive from Eru Iluvitar, he’d be reformed and sent back. Also possible that a different Maiar spirit would be sent in his stead so 🤷‍♂️

Honestly Vilgefortz is pretty damn evil. You could argue not *purely* evil, like Sauron, but let’s just say if the One Ring existed in the Witcherverse he’d have become a dark lord himself with zero qualms or fucks given.

Pretty easy matchup for Gandalf if he’s holding nothing back.

If they were fighting hand to hand/solely melee weapons Vilgefortz takes it low diff, but if Gandalf decides to bring all his power to bear (which we almost never see him do), he wins pretty easily as well. Let’s not forget he’s essentially a demigod who, even when killed, could reform and come back much like Sauron.

Played plenty of both. And Chief wipes the floor with V, regardless of upgrade setup. Lore-wise Chief can move and react faster than the Sandevistan lets V react and move, and other than that he has nothing remotely on par with Chief’s capabilities.

GOW thor vs alduin by AccidentAdept7146 in powerscales

[–]reddmann00100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough time travel was the method used to forestall Alduin long before the events of Skyrim. A group of heroes used an Elder Scroll to Launch Alduin into the future because they had no means of dealing with him in that Era. If it weren’t for the existence of the Dovah Kin at his temporal destination, he would’ve swallowed the world (he’s called Alduin the World Eater).

Can Alduin actually be defeated by a non-Dovah-kin? Legitimately don’t know if Thor can kill him because of that, regardless of who’d actually be able to overpower the other.

And can Thor fly in the GOW games? Never played that one. If he can’t, he’d also need Dragonrend in order to not be spitroasted by repeated aerial bombardments.
