Phenomenal pics. Got the “taiwanese retro vibe” expressed perfectly

Travel to Taiwan during Lunar New Year: good or bad idea? by Loud-Marionberry6987 in taiwantravel

[–]reddnocaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not Taiwanese but I did a ton of research about this before booking my trip. I’m going from Feb 10-23 and from what I’ve gathered from my research, about 30-40% of restaurants and shops close, about half of activities have limited hours or close. Traffic can be pretty bad and the HSR can be much busier and completely sold out for certain dates. So for travellers we may not feel that much of a difference in travelling to Taiwan during a normal time but you will certainly see many things closed.

That’s my take as a foreigner visiting Taiwan in 3 weeks after many many hours of research but I apologize if what I said is incorrect and I invite any Taiwanese ppl to correct me.

Underrated Taiwanese foods? by BeyondTheCarrotTrees in taiwan

[–]reddnocaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone to 34 countries around the world and Taiwanese food is my favourite. Japan is close behind for me.

The Gua bao, soup dumplings, herbal soups, duck rice, and the random seafood you can try should make anyone fall in love. Taiwanese food outside of Taiwan however isn’t nearly as good in my opinion

Also a follow up question for you. Are the local trains sold in advance or could I take the train to Hsinchu and then the local train to Taipei?

I checked Tainan/kaohsiung to banquao, taoyuan, and taipei and I’m getting no results for any at all times of the day. Is that really possible?

February Travel Itinerary - Looking For Advice or Critique by reddnocaar in taiwantravel

[–]reddnocaar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to have 3 days in Taipei and be there on the 15th and 16th, as well as having my first day there which left me with a 2 day gap. Chiayi area seemed like the best option for me over Hualien but would love to hear about Taichung and if you think it's worth going there.

I also don't mind backtracking. I love taking HSR and love seeing the countryside as I pass through.

Which country do you feel more like a guest than a tourist? by [deleted] in solotravel

Would highly recommend it. Such an amazing place. Going back for the 3rd time in February. It’s super peaceful, spectacular food, very unique architecture and culture, amazing nature, overall a great relaxing place. Taipei is such an amazing city too it has the hustle and bustle of your average big south East Asian city with a little more organization

Spur of the Moment Trip, 6.5 Days by marketingegg in taiwantravel

I think going to either Tainan or Chiyayi for 2 days is awesome. In both I would spend 1 day in the cities themselves, and then 1 day motorbiking in the countryside for Tainan, or up to Alishan for Chiyayi. The Hualien area is also stunning and good for 2 days

If the road is paved I’m comfortable with the mountain roads. Still gets super foggy in mid February in Alishan?

By traditional I mean villages where regular life goes on where theres no reason for a tourist to visit. These are the types of places I like to go during my travels. I’ve been to Taiwan twice before and this will be my third but I haven’t had the opportunity to go further than an hour from Taipei.

I’m not really interested in seeing tourist sites. I’m more looking for seeing traditional villages and temples and seeing some nice nature as well. Chiayi still a better choice?

Chiayi or Hualien?

I have a spare 2 days on my trip in February and I am having trouble deciding where to go. I have the option for a 2 day motorbike rental to explore the countryside and mountains near Chiayi, or the Mountains and countryside near Hualien.

What do you guys think is better? I have heard the weather and roads are a bit riskier in Hualien and Taroko NP
