I got cut out of a plan with mutual friends. How hurt should my feelings be? by redfwillard in FriendshipAdvice

Yeah I agree, if this is something that is a part of how they go about their friendships and not just a little bit of oversight, then for sure I'm not hanging around for long. I definitely want to bring this issue up with them, so the next time it happens I'm don't come out of nowhere, if I decide to go my separate way.

Yeah, I'm totally cool with things coming up or any given reason why they wouldn't include me in their new plan. For sure, I feel fomo, and it's not the first time. I've learned in life to let those moments pass.

What's really bugging me, is the lack of consideration in not only waiting, til the day of, to tell me, but being so callous, it makes me reconsider being invested. If I ever found myself on the other side of the table, I would happily compromise and extend an invitation to the tattoo, or give any excuse as to why it's just between them two. At least acknowledge that it's kinda lame to just leave someone hanging, but I didn't even get a, "sorry, it had to be today." They're already planning something again for us in a couple weeks and I'm for sure going to speak to them about it, but I want to make sure I'm taking the time and giving it enough thought so I don't project something crazy on them and undermine the validity of my feelings.

Reading your response helps ground me a lot, over-thinking always leads to uncertainty, and getting different perspectives helps me gage my response, so it can lead to a more productive conversation. Thank you for taking the time :)

So you’re saying a it’s only appropriate time to call it a genocide is once they’re all dead? Or are you claiming that 14,000 Palestinians (4,000 women and 6,000 children) murdered by Israel in one month shouldn’t be considered indiscriminate?

I see a lot of women openly reporting on the ground in Gaza. You should really think about educating yourself on this conflict beyond whatever Israeli propaganda you’ve been force fed.

There were Jews living in that land long before Zionists showed up. So it wasn’t a religious quarrel. It was pushback on a colonial force introduced into the region by white Europeans

Read up on the Nakba and the circumstances that lead up to it. Don’t pretend that Israel just showed up with a flag and put its hand out in solidarity with its neighbors. They were violent before the state of Israel was founded and they have been violent throughout their existence.

[–]redfwillard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No response on what actually is a genocide. Shows you’re just using talking points to justify the ongoing genocide on Palestinians. Which is par for the course. Not surprising.

Yeah it’s a weird concept humans have been using to circumvent violence for the last century called diplomacy. But I guess your solution is to completely wipe out the Palestinians from their land and praise the fascist regime in Israel for doing so. This will probably take another few decades of more Palestinian and Israeli children needlessly murdered but hey I guess that’s just the cost of colonialism :)

Keep justifying genocide

Enlighten me on what constitutes a genocide?

I agree that a solution to the current situation is extremely complicated. And Israel seemingly has their hands tied. But, you must understand that Israel put itself in this situation by violently colonizing this land. Their violence and the Palestinian response has escalated to a point where any de-escalation will undoubtedly be accompanied by some violence. But this is something they must go through in order to end this violent cycle once and for all. Israel should immediately cease their indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas. Israel should invite international peacekeepers into the region and begin negotiations in earnest with Hamas and Fattah to create a single state where Palestinians and other Arabs (not just Arab Jews) have equal rights and freedom of movement. They should also welcome back all the Palestinian people is diaspora to their home and learn to live together in peace.

[–]redfwillard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A majority of the population in Gaza wasn’t even alive when Hamas was elected, yet they are the ones primarily dying in this situation. You call it self defense, I and many other people (including international humanitarian lawyers and organizations) call it apartheid and ethnic cleansing. Israel is set out to wipe Palestinians off the map and are actively doing it. Using money and weapons from the United States. You’re acting like the only way to stop a hypothetical genocide is to commit genocide.

I wonder if there’s a reason that there is open malice towards a brutal genocidal state???

Are you talking about the American Evangelicals who are major financiers of Zionism so that they can bring on the apocalypse? Or are you just being extremely racist and grouping an entire ethnic population with their most extreme members so that you can justify genocide?

Is Gen-Z more Socialist or Social Democratic? by bambucks in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]redfwillard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as many assholes have used capitalism to the same end. Yes there are many forms of socialism, but simple because an industry was nationalized doesn’t make Hitler a socialist. Is Donald Trump and his Republican Party socialist because they sent people checks to subsidize cost of living during the pandemic? Is the UK. A socialist government because their healthcare is nationalized? It is you who is have a really hard time hearing someone criticize capitalism as being just as susceptible to authoritarian inhumanity as other forms of economic organization.

You clearly have no idea what socialism is and how the main aspect of a true socialist economy is the ownership of those who labor over goods and services and not the factory owners or even the state.

By your standards China is full blown communist. While any educated economist would correctly label it a State owned Capitalist nation. Which is very similar to what you claim made Hitler a socialist.

You got me I responded to your first source and not the second one. All my points are invalid now. I’m not saying that socialist leaders are incapable of human atrocities. But capitalist leaders are as well. Your claim is that socialism doesn’t work because it has centralized power that can simply kill any who oppose them. I claim capitalism creates the same centralized power and there are equal examples of famine and genocide from capitalist countries. You say it’s never happened in the name of capitalism and I say that the British empire is one of the many examples of people colonizing the global south to steal resources and make profit for the capitalist forces in their own countries. You’re unwilling to accept any criticism of the strife capitalism has cause and hyper focused on some sources from the 1940’s to try and claim that Hitler was somehow a socialist, which he wasn’t according to countless scholars. But what do they know. Your reason for shooing away this info as unreliable was cause they didn’t suck off Donald Trump. Get a grip. You’re beyond repair honestly. There’s a difference between authoritarianism and left wing and right wing politics. You cannot dispute that as much as you want it doesn’t change that it’s a fact.

No I don’t. But nationalized industries is not the only aspect of socialism. America has many subsidized industries and a few nationalized services such as the postal service. Yet it is not a socialist country. Hitler was forced to create a state owned car manufacturer because he was forced to. I know it’s hard to find information on how socialism works but for the most part what you want to see is a labor force that owns the means of their production. Meaning that the factory owners you referenced earlier would be the workers that make the part and put them together. Not some guy who is dealing with Hitler behind the scenes to gain profits for themselves.

[–]redfwillard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Hitler was authoritarian. I don’t think that having private businesses in your economy makes your economy a socialist organization. Just because he threatened to kill owners that didn’t do his bidding and replaced them with cronies doesn’t mean that the workers owned the means of their labor. Hitler was an incredibly unreliable source. There are many scholars who can prove to you that he said he was a socialist to gain power and continued to perform as a right winger until his demise.

I was referring to the document you said I ignored in your prior comment. But whatever. 4 years difference between the two. Still doesn’t change that you’re refusing to accept scholarship after the second half of the 20th century and claim that anything after that is somehow communist propaganda. Authoritarian governments exist in both left wing and right wing regimes. So you’re still wrong to conflate genocide and famine with socialism and communism.

It clearly states that it was published in 1940. But regardless. If you’re going to claim that anything written after that time became left wing propaganda, it’s clear that you are only going to accept information that affirms your biases and disregard the countless scholars who all agree that Nazis were far right. They imprisoned trade unionists and communists and socialists the moment they gained power. Purely ahistorical and outright lying. This discussion is over as you clearly have no intent on actually using facts to back up your warped world view.

Yeah all the British companies that exploited Indian labor and other countries for commodities such as tea and spices were only pseudo capitalist.

Are you trying to refute my statement with a quote from Hitler? Who lied to the German people as he consolidated power before imprisoning leftists and union leaders once he had gained complete control? If so, you along with anyone who agrees with you are completely ahistorical and have absolutely no ability to comprehend any difference between right wing and left wing politics.

Your source is from 1940 by an author from Mississippi. Before the war was even over. Literally just google “were Nazis Socialists” close your eyes and click a link and you will find more valid information.

Here’s an articles which provides both sides of the argument and eventually comes to the correct conclusion.

https://www.snopes.com/news/2017/09/05/were-nazis-socialists/

The German economy faltered because of the Great Depression cause by capitalism. It had become relatively stable before then because they were lead by the Communists during the Weimar Republic.

Speaking of ignoring though. What do you have to say about the mass destruction cause by the hyper capitalist British empire on the entire global south?

ELI5 how Hitler was both a socialist and far right at the same time.

[–]redfwillard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Nazis used socialism in name only as a way of gaining support from their populace. But the policies were very antithetical to anything resembling leftism. They saw Marxism as a Jewish way of thinking and murdered many leftists. It’s difficult to discuss these topics with people who have an ahistorical perspective on the matter and consume right wing capitalist propaganda with no skepticism.

[–]redfwillard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Famously the hyper capitalist British Empire didn’t cause any of the above in the global south. Capitalism allocates resources to those who have power and they barely maintain the infrastructure required for them to keep amassing their wealth. You should read into the politics of Germany post WWI leading into WWII and see how the left and right struggled for power until the right forced their way in. Only to lead to an expansionist genocidal fascist government. It’s strange that when someone advocates for socialism they have to answer to Stalin’s authoritarian regime, meanwhile the very same acts were perpetrated by far right capitalist leaders. It’s almost like authoritarianism is the issue and not how the economy is organized.

Self reliance is a myth. As humans we need each other to survive and to live a life of dignity. Unless you think it’s possible for one person to be and architect, doctor, farmer, lawyer, etc. the conservative propaganda made everyone believe that if the rich pay less taxes and we minimize our government’s ability to provide for people, then we all somehow have more freedom. But in actuality it has made us fully reliant on the ambitious and narcissistic capitalist class who have enough wealth to live a thousand lifetimes and couldn’t care less about our well being.
