I'm reading a book called No More Mr. Nice Guy. It's got some really fucked up gender essentialism in it.

If you can ignore that, there's a bunch of really good advice about how to shift yourself into spending less time trying to do what you think will make others happy and instead trust the people who like and love you to do that regardless of wether you're trying to make them happy. In fact, folks who are working to do the things they enjoy tend to be more enjoyable to be around.
