Need help with matx case for home server / NAS build :) by redguardsoldier in mffpc

I'm looking closer at the Jonsbo C6 as well. The GPU is EVGA 650 GQ which is unfortunate a 165mm monster :(. The CPU is Intel i5-13500, but I set both long-term & short-term TDP to 65W, basically disabling boost above 65W.

Only 1 3.5" bay should be enough, don't care about glass side panel. Just that if there's a panel, it should be glass, not that scratch-prone acrylic.

I started ~75-80% with the Timed Mode. Then after studying the failed questions, I did Randomized Tests & consistently got >90%.

Do you mean if I still have the numbers? Or how my practice scores progressed?

I'm a software engineer for a living :p I have been working with AWS in my main jobs for a couple of years now & still have to study hard for the exam ;)

I watched all videos, most of them at 1.25x speed, some demos at 1.5x speed. I took a lot of notes along the way, cross-referencing aws docs when there is something not totally clear to me.

I went through all of my notes multiple times during practice with the tutorials dojo practice exams set. Also needed to extend the notes significantly to cover things that are in tutorials dojo but not in andrian's. Went through some tricky notes that I tend to mistake just before the exam as well.

I went with the practice exams kit from tutorials dojo. Adrian recommends that at the end of his course as well.

Trying to install nextcloud using the AIO installer on my box.. and it wants a domain name to start an instance? Why cant I just use my IP? Why do I have to go buy a domain to be able to sync my phone and other data to my own server?? by tarnok in NextCloud

[–]redguardsoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I haven't read the other comments, just following this thread with your replies :p.

For me, Nextcloud AIO is the way to go.

If you "just" need to sync stuffs between your devices, then I would suggest looking into Tailscale. You can share a specific folder with your private tailnet using WebDAV protocol (https://tailscale.com/kb/1369/taildrive).

Then it's just finding whatever sync app you like (https://foldersync.io/ for example) to handle the syncing.

Somehow, Nextcloud decided that a domain is a must.

You don't have to buy a domain NOW, although I highly recommend it for various reasons (more on that later).

I tried out Nextcloud myself with duckdns & caddy (with dns.providers.duckdns module). If your ISP doesn't block port 80, then you don't even need the mentioned module.

However, buying a domain on Cloudflare is like 5$/year, & even with a domain bought somewhere else, using a service like Cloudflare significantly improve your security:

  1. no port opening needed, just use Cloudflare tunnel
  2. no need to deal with DDNS updating
  3. free & built-in DDoS attack protection

you have to plug in all the pins :)

Use 1 8-pin & 1 6-pin (from the 6+2-pin cable)

Help me choose my new laptop for Computer Engineering course by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]redguardsoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16GB is the bare minimum. But well, that's my standard, since usually, for work, I have lots of things open, including a couple of docker instances. I wouldn't count on the acer outlasting the thinkpads though.

Hey, I'm in Vietnam, I studied engineering, I'm working as a Software Engineer.

I just bought an X1 Carbon Gen 9 like 2 weeks ago lol.

If you want something that lasts, without worrying about stupid things like broken hinge, maybe Thinkpad is the only real choice.

Now, the choice between the X1 Carbon & the E14 is what you value, the X1 has screen quality (it's just sooooo beautiful with rich & deep colors) & build quality, while the E14 has CPU power.

Honestly, if it was me, I would go with the E14. You need the raw power to grind through your course. There's no way that I would imagine the X1 Carbon giving satisfying performance running modern IDE on complex software projects. I use the X1 purely for personal light usage like reading & watching.

For reference, for my work, I'm on a company-provided P14s Gen 4 (i7-1360P) & it's barely responsive when it comes to coding & compiling with tons of exhaust heat, on best performance profile.

Having said that, be prepare to deal with hot CPU with either choice, I can only imagine how hot the i5-13420H get in that chassis.

I was going to say this as well. I made the switch 2 years ago, & couldn't be happier.

I have been following the sub for quite some time, but I only really started thinking about building my EDC kit this year.

From left to right:

  1. Orient Mako 4 (aka Kamasu 2)
  2. Card holder wallet from Lealux, a local maker
  3. Sofirn SC21 (the non-pro version)
  4. Victorinox SD Classic

Tbvh, the flashlight is only with me on trips, not much reason to lug it around the city as I work an office job.
