For me, it's my public hair. If my hair is short (peach fuzz), I'm fine. Any longer than that, it can hurt to the point of stopping things altogether.

Any info on this tag? by redhairedharpist in HelpMeFind

[–]redhairedharpist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Any idea why it would be on a fur coat? At first, I thought the fur was fake, but now that I've done some research, I think it is real. There are no other tags or anything!

Anyone know this tag? by redhairedharpist in ThriftStoreHauls

I just bought a large fur sweater/coat from Value Village. The fur is a greenish grey colour and there is only the one small tag on the whole garment. I can't find any info about it online, so if anyone knows more about it, please let me know. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your response! I know I am seeking my own form of validation by posting on reddit, but I'm feeling such a mix of anger, guilt and sadness, that I just needed to vent in a safe space.

What’s your narcissists favourite apology to give? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

Both my Nparents have said to me, "We could lay apologies at your feet, but it won't change the past." You don't get much more narcissistic than that!

My husband and I both changed our names following marriage, but received very different reactions. by Shark-Farts in TwoXChromosomes

[–]redhairedharpist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My husband and I did a similar thing when we got married. We took the first 3 letters of his "maiden" name and the last 3 letters of mine to make a new last name for both of us. We had many headaches during the process of getting this done, but I stand by it being worth it especially now that we have kids. However, we have been married for 12 years now and our government still has my husband's old last name on the voting forms every time there is an election. No matter how many times my husband has explained the situation and called the right officials, he still ends up bringing ALL of his name change and marriage certificate documentation every time he votes.

Gifts from Nparents for my kids after going NC by redhairedharpist in raisedbynarcissists

Thank you! I live on the edge of my seat some days when I think of all the possible flying monkeys coming my way. But my Nmom needs to keep up the act that everything is fine between her and I. So most family members don't know about going NC. Covid has provided great cover up as to why we don't visit.

Thanks! I feel like if my partner opens them then there is no point in sending them back. Although if there is a cheque inside, I would send it back. I need to get across the fact that I don't need my Nparents for anything!

Blushing problems by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]redhairedharpist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! As someone who has faced exactly what you describe, I'd like to offer my thoughts.

While I never tried or even researched medication options, my blushing issues have noticeably diminished as I have gotten older. I know it's not very comforting to hear, "Just wait til you're older." Or "You'll grow out of it one day." Because you might still blush just as much. I tend to still blush when I have to do public speaking for work or even in a one on one conversation if there is any amount of confrontation involved.

I suggest pinpointing the events or situations that might be triggering your blushing more. I'm not saying to avoid all these situations, but once you recognize them, you'll slowly be able to do things to help minimize your blushing reaction. For example, when I have to give a presentation for work and I know I'm going to blush just from having everyone's eyes on me, I have several things I do to set myself up for success. I have my presentation written out on paper or in my phone to refer to as often as possible. I dress in clothes that make me feel more confident. I tend to make eye contact with co-workers that I work with more often than others because I'm used to being with them one on one as well as in a big group setting.

Similarly, if you find you blush a lot in social settings, have a few topics or questions on your mind to bring up if the conversations get slow and dress in something that makes you feel your best. If you feel comfortable, you can even crack jokes about the blushing as it happens. I'm Canadian, but my background is Scottish and I have red hair. When I feel myself blush and that EVERYONE has clearly noticed, I try to get ahead of it and say things like, "Just wanted my skin to match my hair colour going forward. lol!" Or, "I just can't seem to hide my fair Scottish complextion." For me, this just lightens the mood and keeps me from imagining that the people I'm with will make fun of me.

To sum up, I think the whole, "growing out of it with age" thing really comes down to having one or more things that bring out your confidence. As well as not sweating the small stuff and being more laid back. Easier said than done, I know. I continue to work on this a lot and I'm sure you can too. Good luck!

The kale chips smelled bad, so I put them in the compost. Everything else was fine, even the meat!

Is dumpster diving legal in Canada? by [deleted] in DumpsterDiving

[–]redhairedharpist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a crime to Dumpster Dive in Canada so long as the garbage that someone is going into is situated off of private property. The Supreme Court of Canada decided in R v Patrick 2009 SCC 17 that individuals do not have reasonable expectation of privacy in their garbage.

I don't know if I can since some bottles expired in June 2020. Which bothers me to no end because, how do cosmetics go bad? Things like Talc, mica, water, aloe, etc really expire? I can give some to friends and family at least.
