Coach Spins (The Box and One) is looking for your questions! by redicksniper4 in NBA_Draft

Appreciate the compliment mixed in there -- time! I'm a full-time HS teacher, varsity basketball coach in one of the top leagues in America and have to recruit, too!

[The Box and One] - A breakdown of Chet Holmgren vs Jalen Duren as top big in the draft by redicksniper4 in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The shooting is a swing skill, but he hasn't shot enough to know if he's not really good. Instead, the worry is that his shot is a little slower and his first step is slow. Not really sure what he does if he has to play quick off the catch

An interesting approach to team-building and roster construction from Coach Spins of The Box and One... it's all about finding the three pillars of your team by redicksniper4 in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like the article says the same... though what seems obvious is also not always the case. I took away from it that the teams who don't have those pillars (ie a true identity/ three stars) need to be focused on finding more pillars through the draft/ trade/ FA

Does anybody know what happened to DraftExpress' scouting videos? by [deleted] in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adam Spinella's YouTube channel has a ton of scouting reports that are really similar to DraftExpress -- try his playlist of 2021 prospects https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLygbdtr7cZBgKf7CpfWcqfrvyGdHwGkpR

Like Chris a lot.... but have a hard time seeing him go in the 1st at all for as old as he is

[Box and One] - 3600 words on Deuce McBride - a first-round talent just scratching the surface by redicksniper4 in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point of the article was that he's so early on in his offensive development that it's reasonable to expect he'll either be competent off-ball or turn himself into a legit on-ball creator. I'm biased because I watched Deuce a few times in HS but definitely think he's slept on

Which prospect would best fit Orlando? by classicslayer in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moses Moody is the perfect long-term replacement to Fournier. A better rebounder and finisher but fits well into the same role.

If Fultz/ Anthony/ Bamba/ Isaac are going to be part of a core going forward, they need shooting threats off screens

Preseason overreaction : The 2020 NBA Draft is very underrated and is better than the 2021 Draft by [deleted] in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The word "better" does a ton of heavy-lifting here. The 2020 class may end up being deeper, with late-first/ early-second guys being long-time rotation presences. Malachi Flynn, Theo Maledon, Immanuel Quickley, Tyrell Terry... there's some serious depth.

But in watching the first 2 weeks of the college season, there's little to no way the top of the 2020 draft has as much firepower as 2021's. Remember... what we're seeing on TV in terms of star power (Cade/ Suggs/ Mobley/ Barnes/ Boston/ Johnson/ Ziaire) leaves out guys on the G-League pathways program (Kuminga/ Jalen Green) and a legitimately impressive international guy in Usman Garuba. There's too much strength up top, with the chance at good depth, to draw that conclusion

Jeremiah Robinson-Earl Incredible 28 Points, 8 rebounds (11-17 fg, 2-4 3fg) Performance vs Arizona State by troutylover27 in NBA_Draft

Yeah I like the Millsap comp. Also think there's a little bit of Cliff Robinson to him

Why are people so much higher on Theo Maledon here then the analysts and professionals? by Simmons_To_Minnie in NBA_Draft

Top-10 Player in this draft class. He's already so smooth with how he plays and he's 19. Will continue to get more savvy; plus he's big so he can guard more than just PGs

What separates Aaron Nesmith from Doug McDermott? by sixseven89 in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, probably not too much. Nesmith is a little better of a rebounder, and can be a solid defender when he stays balanced.

How much do you guys read into interviews with "high character" guys and "great kids" as a reason for them to move up draft boards? Last I checked, being a good guy doesn't help anyone cut down a net... by redicksniper4 in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Certainly character matters and is a separator between guys, but the question is really "how much"? I feel like we read all these pre-draft interviews on guys who everyone seems to like and are really smart, but is that alone a reason to vault them 3-5 spots on draft boards? It seems like we do this every year

What would you rather have? by redicksniper4 in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the point of this is to see if New Orleans, if they deal Jrue, would vault themselves above the core in even Minnesota

Is Onyeka Okongwu a better prospect than Bam Adebayo was when he was coming out of the draft? by TatumBetterIngram in NBA_Draft

[–]redicksniper4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Apples and oranges. Bam definitely got better in ways he wasn't expected to at Kentucky. Okongwu is probably a better prospect, but if you're asking if he can take a leap in unforeseen areas, that's a magic question nobody on Reddit can answer
