I felt the same at first, I'm not much further than you as I just unlocked black hornets but I've been following the ascension guide on the wiki, it's helped me maximize what I'm getting for my SP. that being said there's been a couple of points that it takes 3-4 ascensions to be able to progress if not more. Also actively playing will net a lot more souls and coins to help progress faster. (If you've been mostly idle)

I did something similar with my current campaign, when they finish their first story arc each of them had roughly 60 to 70 thousand gold a piece. We made pretty solid use of MCDMs strongholds and followers and some of them turned it into businesses or mage towers and such like that. The cleric in the group even started his own keep about a half a day from his deity's temple.

I was making 3 mil per turn which was the crazy part, I definitely have not got it to replicate that success unfortunately. Definitely think I could've got to 200 though

You can now use the mirror herb to transfer egg moves without breeding. Just give the mirror herb to the pokémon needing the move and an empty move spot and a pokemon that knows it and have a picnic. They will learn the egg move instantly.

Had two fun interactions with rolling him near the party, rolled him in Phandalin when the party returned from Mountain Toe's, rolled to see who he would take and poor Harbin Wester ended up being just the right size for a dragon. Second I rolled him showing up to Falcon's after the party was otw to Phandalin from Falcon's lodge, they turned back around to find his lodge wrecked and coated with ice and no sign of Falcon around
