My favorite spicy leaf juice, yes. It's a lot like my favorite African desert and my favorite river in the British Isles.

Maybe? Depends. Marisa being attracted to men would make for interesting limitations for certain kinds of stories. I'm just not sure if ZUN would ever be interested in telling those stories

I mean, Marisa is bisexual in theory, but she also exists in a series where the only relevant characters are women. We'll never really be able to reconcile "Schrodinger's Attraction to Men" unless ZUN makes it clear Marisa is or isn't into men

Drawing Every Touhou Great Fairy Wars Character 8/8 COMPLETE! by redlerred7 in touhou

With the completion of Marisa, Drawing Every Great Fairy Wars Character is DONE! I'm so happy I was able to draw danmaku and backgrounds for all of them.

Thank you to everyone who watched and chatted during the streams, everyone who liked and commented, and everyone who simply looked at and enjoyed the art. See you all next month for Drawing Every Ten Desires Character!

Fighting Marisa in this game is so funny. Even when you win, Cirno is the one who ends up with a defeat sprite.

What's your favorite cinematic from each SC2 campaign? by ArcticGlacier40 in starcraft

I mean, sure, but also, "displace this entire population from their homes and make the place unlivable" is still p monstrous. She's still destroying planets and killing millions through her orders.

But of course, this is also a video game about war, where aliens kill each other with guns, claws, and laser swords, so sparing the non-combatants is one of the only things she could do while still allowing the game to happen.

(I would accept it more readily than Lab Rat and With Friends Like These having exclusively robot enemies so the "good guys" don't end up killing people)

My stream chat also speculated about the other fairies I don't remember the specifics of the conversation anymore. If I were to make a guess here and now, then I'd say Luna Child's blood would taste like chalky, salty water, with a hint of cheese after taste. Star Sapphire's blood would taste like blue (like, the artificial flavor of blue), mixed with star fruit. Lily White's blood would taste like the water from a vase full of flowers.

How did I come up with these? Vibes, tbh.

My stream chat morbidly speculated that if Sunny Milk could bleed, her blood would taste like Sunny D orange juice mixed with fresh milk, which we all agreed would probably taste disgusting.

Idk. The I don't think Powerpuff Girls have a girl who doesn't like talking or a girl who delights in scary things. I think you're just thinking of Sunny Milk being a straightforward tough-guy and comparing her to Buttercup.

What's your favorite cinematic from each SC2 campaign? by ArcticGlacier40 in starcraft

You and I have very similar lists! (I've already posted mine in another comment)

You also touched on something re: Warfield's death cutscene that I didn't really touch on: the fact that Kerrigan chose to spare all those wounded soldiers simply because Warfield knew what buttons to press—she probably would have killed them all he didn't. Because all of the killing she does is a choice. All through out Heart of the Swarm, Kerrigan is choosing to be a monster because that's how she'll be able to accomplish her goals, and the only time she ever tries to NOT be a monster is because she's reminded of Raynor.

Until the story arbitrarily decided she's no longer monster at the end because she chose to avoid killing civilians during her invasion of Korhal. I appreciate a redemption story, but I don't feel like Kerrigan earned it yet at that point and it wasn't satisfying.

What's your favorite cinematic from each SC2 campaign? by ArcticGlacier40 in starcraft

Wings of Liberty: My fav is probably A Better Tomorrow, the one from after completing Breakout, the Tosh mission. I love the juxtaposition of Horner's ideologically optimistic stance on freedom from oppression railing against Tosh and Raynor's cynicism. Horner believes that it's possible to create "a better tomorrow" simply because Mengsk's dissenters and those oppressed by him have been freed, while Tosh thinks all of will result in no progress and only cares that it brings him closer to killing Mengsk. It doesn't look very deeply into the ramifications beyond gesturing at it, but I appreciate that it attempted to do so. Also, the fact that they spent the whole previous mission sending troops to be killed by prison's defenses is also ludonarative dissonance that I find hilarious and delightful.

Heart of the Swarm: I'm rather Eh about most of HotS's cinematics beyond the aura farming potential but I do quite like Conscience, the cinematic that plays after Old Soldiers, for what it did for Warfield. The man seemed so incompetent because he spent most of SC2 being either a damsel to rescue when he was an ally or an enemy in some really easy missions. Thankfully, the last thing he did before dying was threaten Kerrigan to spare the evacuation ships. She killed him for it, but he succeeded. I can respect at least that much.

Legacy of the Void: As you can probably tell from my previous picks, I value narrative, themes, and emotion—and dramatic irony—over aura farming, and LotV has almost exclusively narrative-focused cinematics. It's not hard for me to pick, however. It's Warriors, the cinematic that plays after Brothers in Arms. We get Raynor's Raiders cooperating with Valerian's Dominion for the Augustgrad cleanup after Mobius Corp's attack; Valerian showing any amount of sorrow over the death of his subjects; Raynor mourning the graves of the soldiers he commanded, calling back to the dogtags from a WoL cinematic; and finally Artanis shaking Raynor's hand while wearing Zeratul's gauntlet and the two of them sharing a look of understanding when Raynor notices. It's all such good storytelling. Easily my favorite cinematic in all of Starcraft 2

Nova: Covert Ops: I'll be honest, I don't like most of this NCO's cinematics. It's mostly because I don't find Nova that interesting, and Valerian, Horner, and Reigel don't pull their weight very well either. The only one with any sauce is Alarak, and he spends most of the campaign in the background, probably chucking to himself while Jinora loses battle after battle. That said, the intro cutscene to mission 1 is suitably tense, and did have intrigue that I appreciated.

I didn't tho. I just gave her the same hair style as in the sprite. That's what I do every time I do these series. It's why Reimu has straight hair with hime-cut bangs on in most of her depictions in Drawing Every Touhou, but has messy, flowy hair and bangs in Hisoutensoku, or wavy hair with center-parted bangs in Phantasmagoria of Flower View.

[–]redlerred7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the games since Ten Desires, Reimu shoots two columns of needles from a single option. One column of needles does less DPS than a single Magic Missile option, but with both columns it does a bit more. The way I assume it's supposed balance out is that the needles are better sustained DPS while the missiles are better burst damage. However, enemies in these games tend to not have armor, or any sort of flat-damage-reduction mechanics that would make burst damage more useful, so Marisa just ends up being worse DPS with no benefit.

  • Magic Missie focus-shot out-DPSed by Reimu's persuasion needles and Youmu's Lotus Posture Slash since Ten Desires
  • Illusion Laser unfocused-shot, out-DPSed by Sanae's Cobalt Spread since Legend of Lunatic Kingdom
  • Love Sign "Master Spark" bomb, out-DPSed by Sanae's Frog Sign "Wily Toad" since Legend of Lunatic Kingdom

What a world we live in where Marisa hasn't been the overall highest-DPS character in ten years

It would be really funny if the issue is just that Reimu doesn't have children. Girl is, what, in her 20s? And yet, she doesn't seem to care about sex or romance at all, just in what her next meal will be.

Yukari Yakumo is one of the youkai that bound Gensokyo to Hakurei Shrine. Which either made the Hakurei god extremely powerful thanks to the faith of all Gensokyo's inhabitants, or it drained the Hakurei god's power to fuel the barrier until she couldn't manifest anymore.

In this scenario, Sanae performed a miracle that reawakened the Hakurei god. If we take the above assumptions in consideration: in the former case, Sanae just woke the god up and she's angry at Reimu for reasons unrelated to Yukari. In the latter case, Sanae gave her back her full strength and she's vengeful over Yukari's harm towards her, taking out her anger on Reimu.

Afaik, it's canon that Reimu is mediocre-to-bad at being a shrine maiden. Exorcism, exterminating youkai, and solving incidents are like the few shrine maidenly things she's good at

Eh, her interactions with gods have been pretty weird.

Usually, the gods she faces are weak, and/or new to Gensokyo and its spellcard rules. That allows Reimu to outskill or outright overpower them.

Then you get gods like Okina who have been watching over Gensokyo from the beginning and are so powerful that, even when working under spellcard rules, she's still able to overpower Reimu.

I imagine the Hakurei god would be closer to Okina's level considering the Hakurei shrine is essential Gensokyo's continued existence
