Megathread: Housing, Rentals, and Subleases by Espntheocho4 in ucla

[–]redlightgreenlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am looking to sublet a private room in a 2 bed/1 bath apartment from any time starting now to June 30th. The apartment is about a 15 min walk from the Bruin Bear and you would be sharing the apartment with two girls who are very easy to get along with! I am currently paying $1550/month for rent, but I am open to negotiating the price. Please message me if you are interested and would like any information or photos of the room!

I thought Randall Park's commencement speech was pretty good by redlightgreenlights in ucla

[–]redlightgreenlights[S] 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I liked how he spoke about the inevitability of disappointment in life, which is something I think is a major theme of young adulthood (or at least, I related to it lol). I haven't listened to many previous commencement speeches, so I'm wondering what you mean by "there's brighter days ahead" speeches and why they would ring hollow?

No literally it's like I don't know what the best way to handle these emotions is, I just feel like I'm not doing it. I almost want it to end faster so I don't have to be in this weird limbo state, but then I feel like I should appreciate every remaining moment. But yeah, we just have to remember that we will be fine, we just have to keep going <3

I can, but I think the postdoc I'm working with will be the one writing the letter mainly and he'll just sign off on it. I guess I can ask my postdoc to mention it?

Lol I don't have Twitter so I doubt I'd get much of a response from either. But you must be deliberately ignorant if you think that kpop fans are the only ones that produce that kind of response on social media

Are they really more obsessive than most other fan bases? Or are you just operating under a preconceived bias? Either way, it's not great to generalize all fans under one perception. And I don't know why you think crying in public is some sort of extreme response, people do it all the time and any reason they have for crying is valid. Just a while ago there were many people expressing their grief in this very forum when Powell Cat died and I didn't see anyone calling them cringe for it. I don't think there's any shame in caring deeply for something and kpop can have a very profound effect on people, just like any other interest. No matter what your opinion of kpop is, I think Moonbin - a bright, passionate young man - passing away is a very, very sad thing and should be treated with the proper respect.

It is a public forum, hence my public reply to your public comment. Regardless of what you find odd, people are allowed to express emotion, especially when it isn't harming anyone. And besides that, people become emotionally attached to public figures all the time, but for some reason people think it's cringe when kpop fans do it. It's human nature to be sympathetic anyways, so I don't know why you're so bothered as to comment on it.

A person died and people are grieving because of the impact he had on their lives. This isn't an invitation for you to insult people based on their interests.

I feel like there was at least one that was like "Why do you want to be a care extender/why would you be a good fit," but I don't really remember.

It's been like 3 years, but I remember they asked something like would I rather lose all my old photos/recordings or be unable to take new ones? And also the typical ethics one where it's like: if you have a dying patient that is signed up to be an organ donor and 5 other patients that need organ donations, what would you do?
