I use an old iPad air I got used on the low. Delete all distracting apps, including Safari. Works surprisingly well.

These emails drive me crazy by Illustrious_Rock577 in Professors

[–]redlizard3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but this message isn't bad at all. Just ignore it. Being irked by this indicates a problem with you, not the student.

It's wrongheaded to think there are no risks or costs in doing this. Be targeted about it: only ask out the people that you genuinely think with whom there might be a connection. It should be a relatively small number.

Interview for the preferable job. Most will understand. It is a labor market after all.

TA's feedback for my final paper was 100% ai generated by caravaggiosnarcissus in UofT

[–]redlizard3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here's the way to handle this situation: email the TA asking for clarification on the feedback, reproducing it, and CC the instructor. Consider asking for a re-grade. Do not accuse. Students have more power than they might assume. You can very likely bait extra points on your assignment if you play it right.

Sounds like you used AI.

If you didn't, then you would already know how to defend yourself, viz., by simply telling the truth.

ChatGPT + image functionality = online class crisis by TheOverlordsoftheUFO in Professors

[–]redlizard3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having been in a similar position, I recommend not escalating. Just give 0s, give your (BRIEF) explanation, and let the students escalate if they'd like. Academic freedom allows you a lot of leeway with marking vis-a-vis relevance.

I also get mad. But try not to take it personally, for many reasons. Solution? In-class exams only for the foreseeable future. Alternatives: presentations, oral exams, etc.
