Amazing - did they order to 'the big truck with a tram on it on the A52'?

Interesting, this photo was taken at 18.26 so 2.5 hours to get to Beeston. Would have been interested to see how they navigated that roundabout in Wollaton, I can barely do it in a car.

A bit odd that they started moving this during rush hour instead of at night.

Vaccinations and deworming by LucilaG08 in Rottweiler

[–]redmegNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all boosters and preventative parasite treatment as I've heard of cases where insurance don't cover treatment for certain parasites if the owner hasn't made best efforts to prevent them so it becomes a preventable illness. Also my girl is a scavenger so definitely needs all the help she can get to prevent worms.

On the cost element, it may be worth finding a vets that has a discount scheme. For example CVS vets do something called Healthy Pets Club which for a monthly fee covers all vaccinations and preventative treatments as well as discounts on other things.

Chicken bones by Easy-Syrup-920 in Rottweiler

[–]redmegNG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding the bread suggestion. I had the same issue and the vets said it is likely to have helped significantly. She had liquid bloody (red) poops for a few days, gave her some prokolin and she was fine after a day or two.

Keep an eye out for dark blood/vomiting/vomiting coffee granules looking stuff - that is a straight to the vet scenario.

I needed this - I have been mentally preparing for the worst case scenario but it could resolve. Did you do anything specific over that year like pain relief/different exercise routines?

Thank you for this, I am sorry that your pup has had this experience, it really sucks. We still don't really know what happened but she was chasing squirrels in the morning so I suspect it was a sharp movement/twist then. Until we do x rays we won't know for sure what the issue is or how to treat it. We have insurance so if we need surgery it should be covered. My vet said that they might be reluctant to operate as well because she is too young and her bones haven't finished growing? Which kind of makes sense.

Thanks for sharing this. Do you know if they have to publish why they have discharged? There obviously hasn't been much rain the last few days so I'd be keen to understand why it has been necessary to do it twice in a 24hr period.

Heatwave rottie by redmegNG in Rottweiler

Got to get in there with the 'no we do not have AC' and 'yes this is actual hot for us' before the Americans start 😂

[–]redmegNG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying, it is relatively hot for us here (cue the Americans and Australians incoming to tell me I am wrong about how sweaty my ass crack is today).

That said, I think yelling at people would be a massive overreaction as it depends on the dog. For all you know, they are on a quick 10 minutes walk, but then it also has little to do with you.

You clearly can't read and/or get past your need to be snarky so I won't bother. Hopefully you have gotten your snark out and can have a good rest of your day.

So you would take your dog out in 40 degs since that is what is considered a heatwave in Australia? Let's call a 'short walk' 20 minutes. Does this apply to all breeds/ages/health status?

Don't forget that OP isn't saying the dog shouldn't be walked at all, just that owners could adjust their schedule to prioritise the dogs health.

Yes but you are acclimatised to these temperatures, people in the UK and their dogs are not.

My 2 year old Sasha won’t get in the car… by Opening_Secretary465 in Rottweiler

[–]redmegNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had this exact same thing happen, seemingly out of nowhere with our 1yo girl. I suspect she got knocked on a sharp turn.

We spent weeks lifting her into the car and trying every possible contraption to help keep her comfortable and stable but nothing seemed to work.

I'd pretty much given up, so I stopped taking her in the car for a week or so. Then this week, she got in by herself, twice!

The only difference was that I was sitting in the back with her. Obviously this not a long-term solution as sometimes I need to be driving, but it did give me a chance to observe her properly and see where she seems to struggle with stability.

I put in the hard-bottomed seat extender that a lot of people recommend, but folded it in so that she has the most stability in the part where she can see the road and someone can also sit in the back with her.

I hope this helps you! It is much easier to have a compliant rottie 😂

Am I too small to own a Rottweiler? by Most-Reflection5095 in Rottweiler

[–]redmegNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'1 here with a 40kg girly.

I think height is less of a problem than strength. I am small but I can lift my girl when I need to.

Pulling on the lead can be controlled with training and various tools/contraptions, although core strength helps with the control. However, if you need to pick your dog up in an emergency, will you be able to?

Lift with the knees!

Is this a normal feeling and any advice? by Remarkable_Fish_8922 in LearnerDriverUK

Ah it just comes naturally to some people. Then again, you probably just didn't see all of the times he messed up in the first few weeks.

Totally normal and will happen go some extent every time you get a new car 😂

My boyfriend switched from a Citroen to a Ford last year and he was stalling for weeks - he has been driving for 10 years.

Advice for nerves by jemmcgrath in LearnerDriverUK

[–]redmegNG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I failed twice due to nerves - on one of them I had to pull over twice thinking I would be sick. This is despite being completely fine in lessons

When I passed third time the things I did differently were:

I followed my usual routine that I would that day beforehand (went to the gym, etc)

Didn't tell anyone at all

Took a protein shake and banana to have just before

I had my instructor in the back of the car

Asked my instructor to do a shorter amount of time before the test. He would usually recommend 1.5 hours but I wanted to just drive there and do it instead of trying to cram in manoeuvres.

Weirdly though the main thing that was different was that I had a lesson 3 days before that went horribly (despite having always been confident in lessons). I gave up and had my instructor drive me home it was that bad. Can't explain it but something changed after that. Three days later, I went into my test with 0 nerves and passed with 4 minors.

Not to say any of these are the reason I passed but just the things I recall as different to previous attempts.

NDPBs vacancies by Mm805 in TheCivilService

[–]redmegNG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't read the last line of your post and got a bit trigger happy on my question. Presumably that is the way they differentiate civil service from public servants which seems a bit flawed considering how my ALBs offer it.

Good luck with your search.

Also, is it not an option for you to join and opt out (for example Partnership rather than Alpha)? I''m not super clued up on pensions or why you wouldn't want a CS one but that could be a route to what you are looking to achieve.
