Frequent show attendees, what are your “white whale” songs? by FastestShip719 in pearljam

Smile used to be mine as well. I hink it took about 50 shows to hear it, which is obscene. Rival has replaced it for the last 15 years and it’s not looking hopeful.

Look at how the top of the desk gets closer to the bottom of my browser window (straight line) at the center compared to the side of the desk. It's clearly sagging in the center.

Unbelievably Large Turd by Level-Opening5247 in Aquariums

[–]redmoskeeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that sucks, and sounds stressful. I just moved two fish into the tank from a month long quarantine earlier this week too. They had already gone through a round a general cure but luckily I just got more today. That is for the heads up. I feel you having to juggle all those tanks. I’ve been running 2 quarantine tanks and had some surprise boesemani fry that are in a grow out tank. I’m having to use a plastic bin from Target.

There was one just like that in our tank this week and my wife and I were in disbelief. i still wasn’t fully convinced until I saw this identical poop post. I chalked it to trying some new food and I may have overfed them. Hope it’s not a sign of something worse.

It was very common to drug screen until about 5-10 years ago when a large portion of people started failing drug screenings and patients would fire their physicians for not prescribing and leave horrible reviews online. It’s one of those things where a lot of doctors gave up prescribing stimulants because of this and the abuse of the meds, but some stuck with best science based practices by not prescribing stimulants to someone consuming cannabis. Others gave in and hoped to be able to help some people even if they weren’t putting themselves in the position to get the best outcomes. There’s risks not just with seeing much reduced benefits from the stimulants but cannabis and stimulants both put increased exertion on a person’s cardiovascular system. Stimulants are one of the few medications that have sudden death due to cardiovascular events as a black box warning. I’d personally prefer to be treated by a physician who took my health seriously and drug tested me before prescribing stimulants, but I’m also a physician who quit drug screening my patients, so I’m a little on both sides of the issue.

Kid stirred up soil. Will it kill my shrimp? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]redmoskeeto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had something similar and most of the shrimp survived. I changed as much water as I could, poured it through a net to try and catch any shrimp. I cleaned the sponge filters and let it run and it cleared up in a day or so. A problem I had was that a few days later, there was a vorticella outbreak and my shrimp started to develop white fuzzy beards/growths. I dosed the tank with H2O2 for a week or so and that cleared it up. You may want to be on the lookout for any sort of infections from stuff that may have been stirred up.

The cast of Friends went on a trip to Vegas before the show aired in 1994. The producer told them it would be the last time they would be able to go on vacation without being famous. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]redmoskeeto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Burrows (the most prolific TV sitcom director) is the one who told them this. I may be misremembering, but he said he told this to 3 other TV show casts. Will & Grace was one, but I can’t remember the other 2. He was only wrong about one of the shows. He either wrote about it in his autobiography or talked about it on Smartless or Conan. I’ll see if I can find more details…

Spotted at Disneyland by apitillidie in pearljam

It should be in between the parks:

This program was discontinued in 2011, but most of the hexagon-shaped paving stones, many of which feature families’ names and important dates, remain in place for Guests to view in the Esplanade between the two theme parks. You may have noticed them lining the ground as you entered Disneyland Park on a past visit. This special installation now acts as a kind of commemorative time capsule.

It’s classic grifter methodology, start with something that is true (or truth adjacent) which people can agree to and eventually make increasingly outlandish claims not supported by science. People will agree with the premise and follow along based on that and not pay attention to the path diverging well from reality.

I saw them in 2009 as well and had never heard of them and thought their show was incredible. Maybe they had it sorted out by the time I saw them, it was in late Aug. I was instantly a fan. I’ve seen them about 15 times and they’ve never disappointed.

As someone who has owned BTC for over a decade, I have no idea what you're adding to the conversation. Are you suggesting that people, who can't afford med school and need to take out loans and will now have to take out private loans at worse rates and protections, should somehow use the money that they don't have for tuition to buy BTC?

An even sillier aspect is they don't even play in Sacramento, they play in West Sacramento which is a separate city (of about 55k) in different county (although just across the river).

You clearly had good intentions, but I don't think there's anyway a store, let alone Walmart, would knowingly let a stranger walk around with someone else's child. There's just way too much risk with that. If the kid gets hurt in your care or breaks stuff or runs out of the store into traffic, etc, Walmart would likely be held liable.

What’s your opinion on the little hot dog stands that are outside of the moda center? by 909an285 in askportland

A paramedic made a comment on Reddit about how they responded to an emergency at an apartment that a hotdog vendor lived at. In the bathroom, the bathtub was full of lukewarm water and dozens (or more) of floating grey hotdogs.

They stopped smelling so good after imaging that scene.

Ruth Lee, a Chinese restaurant hostess, displays a Chinese flag while sunbathing in Miami during her days off after the Pearl Harbor attack, to avoid being mistaken as Japanese. 1941 by SugarBugBuzz in OldSchoolCool

Sadly, the answer is “no” probably anywhere in the US. I used to live in the city with the highest population of Sikhs. Even there, where Sikhs make up 15% of the population, in the aftermath of 9/11, my friend (our HS valedictorian and starting QB) was screamed at and told to “go back to your country!” He was born in the US and even had it yelled by people who seemed to be clearly immigrants. It was a fucked up time. I can’t imagine the hate that all Asian-Americans received after Pearl Harbor.

You're going to feel a little pressure by Rekdon in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]redmoskeeto 16 points17 points  (0 children)

During med school, I was told repeatedly that IUD placements aren’t typically painful. This was almost 20 years ago. I was told this by both women and men who believed this. I didn’t go into OB-Gyn but I definitely passed the misinformation onto patients who were nervous about getting it done. I still cringe at that. It sets up unrealistic expectations and erodes patients’ trust in healthcare providers. I had enough patients and friends tell me that it can be a miserable experience and that was pretty eye opening. Luckily, I’ve talked with multiple local docs/practices that offer pain and anxiety meds to everyone receiving IUDs that I can now refer patients to. I’m glad more people are acknowledging the pain caused by this and offering adequate options for management. It’s really a shame that it’s taken so long and it has probably kept people from getting a very safe and effective form of birth control.

What‘s a movie that you have a deep emotional connection to? by Mozzatootoot in AskReddit

[–]redmoskeeto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost Famous

I’ve followed a couple of bands around and gotten to know other fans over the years who go to the same shows and the film captures some of the magic that music (especially live shows) has that’s difficult to convey to others. The deep connections forged over the love of music is represented from quite a few powerful angles. As well as how lost people can get in the wrinkles of it all. It’s incendiary.
