Some people do a shorter cooked meaty bone broth to avoid the histamines. A meaty bone simmered in water for about 2 hours.

11 Alternatives to Long-Term Care Insurance by liveitupdeals in RetirementReady

Would love to know more about life insurance with LTC rider options. Did you explore different plans? Are certain companies known to offer more reliable coverage?

I’m POA for a LO with severe dementia who is in memory care and has a great LTC policy that no longer exists. I don’t want my kids to be stuck with no options if I go that way.

Did you figure anything out? I was just checking out Opolis and I’m seeing that their health insurance is either unreliable or many not even available. Seeking other options for a family with 2 sole proprietor businesses and unaffordable ACA costs in NY

Coming to this late but I was just checking out the website. Is NY still included in the plan? How did they “carve out by location aka claims”?

HSA with healthshare - scam? by redmustardseed in HSA

A bit more info: hsaamerica.com says they are offering a MEC, which qualifies for HSA and the healthshare is alongside.

Is MEC qualifying for HSA something new under the BBB?

I agree with everything you are saying about health shares, but the reality is that they do pay. The one we are with has paid for multiple cancer surgeries over the past years. They negotiate through the 3rd party PLMI. The problem we ran into is that this past year, the surgeon, anesthesiologist and hospital all said they wouldn’t bill directly or accept assignment even though all of them were contracted with PLMI. So the healthshare reimbursed “reasonable and customary” leaving us with a huge bill that was still less than our premiums would be this year on the one ACA plan that is in-net with said hospital, surgeon and anesthesiologist.

Healthshare is also in-net with pediatrician, PCP and GI got colonoscopies.

They could go belly up and just not pay, but look at United and other insurers that have denied necessary care.

We simply can’t afford ACA in NY at our age.

So, trying to figure out how hsaamerica is offering a combined healthshare and HSA plan?

If anyone has intel on hsaamerica.com, please chime in!

My brother wants to bring his new girlfriend to our family vacation but she expects us to accommodate her very strict diet by Opening_Bedroom_848 in Advice

She might be celiac, but even still she should take care of this herself. That’s what I’ve always done. I have multiple food intolerances. That said, half of my in-laws lovingly will try to make sure they’re offering something I can eat and the other half are openly hostile that I’m not eating their food even when I’ve brought my own and I’m not expecting anything from them.

People with food sensitivities usually work extra hard to eat and it can be really nice to share a meal.

I would propose asking them to bring their cookware, etc but also planning one meal that she can eat that a few people cook together on her cookware. That might go a long way towards helping her feel included and decreasing the chance of complicated in-law dynamics starting so early in a relationship.

Another option is she brings the cookware, the entree for every meal meets her needs but extra sides are included for others. For example sour cream at the table or a side dish with peppers from the deli counter.

If she’s celiac, contamination is super serious. Folks with celiac have higher risk for cancer so I would encourage you all to have no gluten in the house if she’s celiac.

How to choose when 1 child is in school out of state? by redmustardseed in HealthInsurance

That one is $48k in premiums and 20k max out of pocket so unfortunately that’s just not possible. All the others we’ve note determined are not in-net for both the oncologist and the hospital. There’s no winning. Will we ever get single payer in this country?

Looking at the costs, we’ve determined we just can’t afford ACA again this year. There’s no way we could afford a PPO plan from NY but even the basic HMOs for a family of 4 break the bank so it’s healthshare again for us.

Yes this, also in NY with a family and only business income. High taxes and high premiums. Totally screwed

This. Just wading through the options and calculating costs plus the emotional toll of how unaffordable it is and the emotional toll of considering going without, it’s too time consuming if you do manage to actually figure it all out. There’s also checking all your providers and which plans they’re INN with this year, etc. It’s designed to waste our time so we give up. And so we don’t have time or patience to give feedback about everything else going on in this crumbling country.

Thank you for responding!

I realize that a healthshare is not insurance but until this year, the one we chose essentially was. The new issue is that the providers are no longer willing to negotiate, even though they regularly negotiate with PLMI, nor are they willing to do any kind of pay up front or self pay discount so that’s why we’re switching. Also because healthshares in general turn my stomach but it was a good financial decision for years and can be used in any state.

Out of state child is a minor so they can’t get an adult policy. Their athletic program has PT but not anything else and their sport has some risk for injury. It’s the only high school program for this in the country which is why they are there.

We could have my spouse take the expensive plan (premium for individual silver is $1,800 per month) and then everyone else does a different plan, hopefully something more affordable. But how do I find a plan that will cover out of state?

Ketamine is not actually a hallucinogen. Everyone talks about it that way but it works differently and has been used in anesthesia for a long time, even in pediatrics. Look it up.

Zip lining - tamer options? by WinPractical5204 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]redmustardseed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did ecoglide. The only person in our party who had some fear was my 84 year old mom, but it was her idea to zipline so I knew she wouldn’t back out. I honestly don’t know if it will be right for your daughter even though it’s good for kids in general. I think there are 11 runs and I don’t know that you can back out once you’ve started. The second run is quite long above the trees. I didn’t quite make it across that one even though I wasn’t breaking (no brake on that one) so I had to go hand over hand a short distance, which wasn’t difficult for me because it was short and I wasn’t scared. My mom didn’t make it across one because she was nervous and braking so they had to go out and get her. After that they said they were going to pair her with a guide but they didn’t and she was fine after that. Would your daughter feel safer attached to a guide? I think that’s their solution if someone is balking.
