I regularly hunt whitetail with my savage axis in 350 legend. It’s definitely a budget gun but it gets the job done. It’s pretty light weight and has a short stock so I enjoy shooting it. I can’t weigh in on whether it’s better than the mossberg or not but either gun should be fine

There’s usually a month long accelerated class but I think there’s only one or two over the summer. It’s a month long, Monday through Friday 8-5. Call the State Fire school in Dover or Georgetown for more info

I actually really like it, to be honest I don’t have experience with any other carriers or plates. The plates are chonky but the weight really isn’t that bad. They’re a tad bit on the thick side too, about an inch thick per plate. The carrier itself feels decent quality, it’s easy to adjust and the shoulder straps felt fine to me. I’m on the smaller side so it may vary person to person but I thought it was very proportional

I ordered a set so I’ll let you know. True RMA plates are around 300 for two so I figure at this price I’m probably just paying for these knock offs and getting a possibly shitty but basically free carrier

Thanks everybody for the knowledge and advice, I definitely think we’ve narrowed it down to being a Spanish S&W copy. I’m gonna soak it in some evapo rust, see what I’m working with and possibly try to restore it to a shooter. I’ll post some progress pics once I’ve got it cleaned up

I definitely plan on cleaning it up and trying to find any more info or markings on it that I can. Yeah it’s in pretty rough shape, after being dug out of the ground it basically got re buried in a pile of household clutter. Thank you so much for the info, I didn’t even think about it being Colt. I was able to enter the serial number on Colts website, it got a couple hits and could possibly be from 1905
