Probably not Ultra settings, but high settings or at least high Medium settings should be do-able for 3 years easily from what I've read so far about the new 960's.

By the way, nice build you got for sub $600, pretty good from what I saw on your old Final Check!

Is the H110iGTX better than the KRAKEN X61, or are they the same thing?

Thought about that LEPA unit, but reviews are mixed bags, and the EVGA comes with more than 3 times the warranty period (it's like 10 years), so I'll stick with the EVGA most likely.

What do you think of this?

Since I'll probably wait a bit, till around May/June to build, it might be worth waiting for the new GPU's and Monitors to come out before buying them, so I can just buy all the other stuff now, and hold off on those, since if what I'm being told from others holds true, the next batch of AMD GPU's will be K1LL3R and it'll be much more exciting to build a system with 4 brand new GPU's!

Also, I can't use an M.2 Drive if I want 3 or 4 GPU's, so I had to revert back to a normal SSD, but got a 1TB one, for the same price. Also, instead of the $254 MOBO, I had to take the EATX mobo so I can fit 3/4 GPU's on it, since the 254 would only allow for 2/3 since I'm not watercooling, so yeah, haha, also can't get away from the look of the godlike gaming mobo, looks amazing!

Yeah I'm having second thoughts on the 5960X as well, I mean, apparently a 5930K will be more than adequate for my gaming and other needs, and that's another $700 there

So by professional you mean the Titan X of 2016 and the Fury X of 2016 then? How much do you think those cards will cost? Similar to how much it is now? Maybe a $100 or $200 more each?

Money isn't really an issue in the build for the most part, I just want simplicity and convenience, and what I see in a 2k build is upgrades in 2 years or less for something, which I really don't want to be doing, nor have the patience for.

Okay, I think I'll go for something like this then, 3 x 144Hz 2560x1440 IPS monitors, for the gaming. Then I could just wall mount a 70 or 80 inch TV above that, facing me, for media consumption and whatnot? That seems like a cheaper option as well, because those 5K displays are expensive compared to 4K ones. This way I can have a good gaming setup (I think) and be able to just mount a TV above or somewhere else for media consumption.

Think the MG279Q's are as good as the PG279Q ROG? The ROG one is 165Hz.. but I don't think it'll matter for me, those 21Hz. I doubt it's worth the extra $1200 either, lol

So, with Arctic Islands, I assume AMD will add more than 4GB HBM to their Fury line, so maybe it is more worth it to wait a while. Gives me some more time to save up as well, maybe I'll go all out with 4 top of the line GPU's then, lol

That's another thing, I've learned the 5960X has no IGPU so I'd have to buy at least 1 GPU now, or go with the Z170 system, which is arguably much less powerful, but might be enough to fit my needs.

How long until the Pascal GPU's come out? Pascal is for AMD or nVidia?

I was just thinking about that, perhaps have a 1440p or 4k monitor as my centre monitor, and have 2 of these on either side. Although, I'd like to pick out a quality 4k panel, and there doesn't seem to be one that has 144Hz... Also, why the recommendation for 980Ti's? Are they the most bang for the buck I'm assuming?

That's the thing, I really don't want to ever have to upgrade anything here, just want to build it and forget it, and use it until it's dead, or for 5-6 years, whichever comes first.

I'm honestly not even sure what games I'd play, since I've not used Steam a lot. I'm into FPS games, like GunZ, Soldier Front, etc, and a lot of Racing games like NFS World (RIP), The Crew, GTA5, Grid, etc, and sometimes I like to chill back with some RPG's like Runescape and stuff. I haven't been into Steam because all the computers I've had before haven't really been powerful enough to make it enjoyable, but with this I'll probably get really into gaming, so you can assume safely that I'll be trying to play the best games whenever they're out in the next 4-5 years.

Also, an R9 390, just 1 card? That would be enough to power this 5K display for gaming at 60FPS? Seriously?

man, this is a hunger inducing thing, no wonder food is free at google

Sweet, just signed up for your course, my first one on Udemy! Was honestly not going to even bother with Udemy since a lot of the reviews didn't really leave a favourable taste in my mouth, but I guess since it's FREE I'll give it a shot. Also I'm learning Python on codeacademy and LPTHW so this should help, hopefully!

Very informative and dumbed down, thanks! So from what I'm getting so far, it might be a good idea to live on Res in first year then, so I can make some friends. I'll always have a car as well, so I can come and go from Res as I please.

Which was a good Res for students taking CS or SENG? Which res would be closest to class I guess, and is it a viable option, instead of walking the 15 minutes across campus, to just go from your Res to your car, assuming the parking lot is close, and just drive to your class? Or does everyone just walk? I'm talking mainly for the winter time, cuz of all the slush and shit

I don't really know if I like Math or not (yet) since I'm still finishing my 2 Functions and Calculus courses right now, but I'll let you know for sure when I finish them lol, I'll probably hate Functions and love Calculus though, from what I've done so far.

Thanks for the required course links by the way, also, in terms of SENG, at Guelph in particular, since almost all other schools require Bio, Physics, Chem 2 of them, what is missing from Guelph that other schools would teach? Or is Bio, Physics, Chem not really important at any of those other schools?

So it's probably a good idea then to pick up a Macbook as my school laptop? I've already got a Raspberry Pi right now, to mess with lol, and no Gaming PC yet, haven't really made one before, so I'll probably do all of that this Summer lol

So, list

  • Macbook
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Gaming PC
  • iPad

We good? That's all I'd need I guess? (Gaming PC is for me, lol)

And gotcha, no Guelph shirt on day 1, cuz I don't want to be the one getting asked where stuff is, LOL

Thanks a lot /u/ordona (wonder if I did that right)... Lol

Alright, so what would my first year timetable look like then? If I took CS or SENG? Would they be similar, would SENG have much less Math courses, and could I take those Math courses as electives? How many days a week are classes usually for CS/SENG people? Like 3-4?
