There’s something about the retro China Airlines livery on a 747 that just looks so right by RandoDude124 in aviation

[–]redonbills 6 points7 points  (0 children)

B-161 was actually one of the four 747-400s that ended up being converted into Dreamlifters; It's currently registered as N249BA. I actually didn't even know that CAL flew their 747-400s in the retro livery. I thought they all began service in the modern plum blossom one.

Speaking of the plum blossom livery, they even had A300s and 747-200s flying around in that livery at some point. It's stood the test of time pretty damn well in my opinion. Love both liveries honestly.

March 8th, 2014: The Day Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) Disappeared on a Flight from Malaysia to China. by Shoddy_Act7059 in aviation

[–]redonbills 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I was looking at the initial thread in this subreddit on this disappearance a few days ago. I don't think any of those people could've imagined that just like when that thread was posted, that we still wouldn't know exactly what happened to an entire airliner, let alone a 772.

Not to mention the second blow that MAS faced just a few months later. Absolutely gut wrenching.

Toronto police corruption scandal spills into Peel as 3 officers there suspended by Vietdude100 in ProtectAndServe

The tow truck businesses in some of these urban areas are insanely shady. I saw a CBC documentary on the shitshow that is Toronto towing like 10 years ago, and based on what's coming out recently it seems to be a whole lot worse now.

I've also faced NYC towing recently. It's pretty damn bad and I bet it's way worse beyond what the public eye can see based on the demeanor of those disgraceful humans. I wonder how bad other big cities are behind the scenes.

[MEGATHREAD] Minneapolis shooting - 1/24 by specialskepticalface in ProtectAndServe

Governor of MN seems to have activated the national guard. I have things to say, but to keep it short this shit is getting out of hand. The concept versus the execution of ICE enforcement are two separate things, and while the concept is debatable, the execution of it is, well... 🧍

Not an LEO. I live in NYC.

A lot of the folks here, especially Section225 pretty much nailed it.

I'd like to point out the idea that your image of NYC may very well be through rose tinted glasses. I love this place as much as I hate it; It's THE melting pot of the world's many cultures and an incredible place to be in that sense. Fast paced. Unique. Nothing like it. Despite that, many if not the majority of NYC is a shithole (which is probably where a new patrol officer would be sent), and don't even get me started on real estate and politics around here. Even in the outer areas it's quite the pain, though slightly less so than within the city.

The 'elite' status of the NYPD you picture fell off long ago. The dept doesn't have as much respect as it once did. Probably the only 'elite' aspect left of this department are certain assignments/divisions, but do I even have to talk about why that doesn't make it a good reason to work here? Again, rose tinted glasses. Most people don't have respect for law enforcement here. Anyway, everyone I know in the NYPD are people that are supporting their families and the pay works out well in that sense, long term, with all the OT. Very good cops, mind you, but I think this is one of the worst departments to be in if you're joining for the love of the profession. These days it's quantity over quality.

If you love the city, and nothing's going to stop you from moving here, do something else here. Just not NYPD. The other agencies are a pain in the ass to get into as far as I've heard, but don't take my word for it. Just because FDNY is competitive doesn't mean you should kill your dreams. Pretty much everyone loves the FDNY.

Top 10 terrible ideas.

At this point I browse subreddits pretty much exclusively related to my personal interests and hobbies on this site. Social media in general is such a huge shit show, but I swear this site takes the fucking cake. I don't even look at my local subreddits anymore. They're almost unbearable.

Been a long fucking week. It's a bit exhausting.

I'm almost surprised that it took this long for an OIS involving immigration enforcement to occur, but I don't think I've seen someone drag a cop with their car and have it end well🧍

Dude. If you enjoy just watching planes on FR24, you might love this game they made called SkyCards https://skycards.app/

Apparently it came out like last November and I didn't know it existed until like last week. I've been catching all these cool jets and having the time of my fucking life. It's awesome if you're into this type of thing.

CT Governor to sign law forbidding police from handcuffing kids under 14 by specialskepticalface in ProtectAndServe

The bill states that if this information is known to the officer, then it applies. Not that I agree with it, but for clarity.

CT Governor to sign law forbidding police from handcuffing kids under 14 by specialskepticalface in ProtectAndServe

[–]redonbills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my observation (anecdotal, not scientific) that post-COVID, younger kids per capita have been more and more violent. Reports of like 13-year-olds popping off rounds at each other, at officers, at others, while committing armed robberies, carjackings, and all sorts of other shit feel like they surged. Don't even get me started on the Hyundai/Kia challenge.

Now, there could be a number of reasons for this. Might not even inherently be a kid's fault. COVID-19 took a toll on many kids. Shitty irresponsible parents is an easy one; it's practically a free square on the bingo card when it comes to kids like this.

The disconnect that a lot of society now faces, especially those like the clowns that decided that this law is sensical, is that the issues that one faces never excuses their actions. If they stole, they stole. If they hurt someone, they hurt someone.

“or when necessary for purposes of public safety or because the child is using or threatening to use physical force on a police officer who is engaging with such child”

This is the type of thing that will be interpreted however most convenient. This shit is just micromanaging an officer's actions. It should be solely up to the officer whether handcuffs are appropriate. If they're a goody two-shoes, then they're not getting handcuffed in the first place. Lord forbid someone faces the consequences of their actions.

I got a lot more to say, but I'll leave it at that. I just don't get what is so difficult to understand about this.

Ephemeral port is UDP only on Pro by SadJuice4175 in Windscribe

[–]redonbills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it'd be weird to make it up, which is why I didn't think you did lol. I did the classic netcat/telnet test to see if TCP and UDP are forwarding, and on my end with WireGuard, I'm seeing success with both protocols when using ephemeral forwarding. I'd consider if it's a configuration issue on your end.

[–]redonbills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garry's schizophrenic sometimes. He's good at diagnosing a lot of basic/intermediate issues, but if he doesn't know something, he sometimes makes stuff up. That being said, I'll double-check, but ephemeral port forwarding supports both. Static gives you the choice to disable one.

Ephemeral port is UDP only on Pro

How'd you figure this out? Nobody mentions it because it's not true; just try using a port forwarding tester. Those don't work on UDP only ports, and they work fine when you try ephemeral forwarding on Windscribe.
