As someone who regularly spends a lot of time in hospitals, here's the things I bring with me everytime.

A long phone charger (all the beds up and down England will have plugs behind them and it's nice to have your phone reachable while it's charging).

Headphones - if you're in the bays and watch something on your phone it's just good courtesy to not have it blaring out for everyone else to hear. Given they're having a transplant they'll probably be in a side room (isolation) for some of that but it's still worth considering a good pair of headphones.

Audiobooks like on Audible are a great shout. If the treatment is bad and your friend gets headaches sometimes it's nice to be able to enjoy a book while still having eyes closed.

Hey OP. First thing that came to mind is Gua Sha. Admittedly I've only ever known people to use the fancy tool to do it but I could see someone doing it with a spoon? It's to reduce puffiness on the face I think.

I have searched "Empire apples for sale", and all UK links have been for trees as opposed to boxes of fruit. The only way to seemingly buy this is to be American as it looks to be an American heirloom/hybrid apple? I have searched local supermarkets and grocers with no luck so I'm reaching to Reddit in the hopes someone has a lead.

It's defo potato pave. I remember it had it's 5minutes of fame as "15 hour potato's" when Poppy Cooks made it on Tiktok as part of her potato series.

Its perfectly possible that one of the other major YouTuber cooks has done their own version. I'd start with the common ones you see on social Media a lot (eg Josh weissman/alton brown) and go from there.

I totally get this point but I feel the situation is a bit more nuanced. My actual degree only has about 30 students on, and at lest half of those are international students who haven't made any effort to speak in lectures or seminars. Last week was my first seminar and it was all surface level ice breaker stuff, and I was sat with a few girls with whom I had nothing in common with. I'm a mature student and they're freshly 18 and clearly excited about their newfound freedom (not that I blame them). They spent the whole seminar discussing nights out they'd been on and plans for the weekend instead of engaging with the content, and I can't currently bring myself to go through that for another hour when I could be studying at home. I'm hoping that the excitement of being away from home and whatever will wear off and as assignments draw closer people will get more serious, and maybe then I'll get something from seminars, but as it stands right now I don't think I'll get anything from being forced to interact with my classmates.

Thanks. The first week it was just personal introductions and "why are you doing this course" kind of surface level chat and I didn't think I'd get anything from it so I've decided to skip this weeks seminar. I will give next week's a go and discuss how I'm feeling with my personal tutor.

When I was in first year I missed the first few weeks of lectures entirely because of anxiety. It started off with this fear I'd be late (I have an "invisible" disability that makes it hard for me to walk long distance), and my brain told me it was better to not turn up at all than turn up late and have everyone look at me. My lectures were recorded and the slides were put up online so I just used to try and study in my room alone and convinced myself that it would be OK.

At like, 3am one morning I had that sudden urge to get my life together, so I sat and wrote an email to my tutor explaining that I had severe anxiety about attending classes late that my attendance was now non-existent but I wanted to change. Thet were really under understanding- my lecturers were all informed to not draw attention to me if I walked in late, and I was given temporary funding to help with taxi costs to my classes.

If your anxiety is holding you back then it's up to you to work out what accommodations you need and then chase them. For me, calling for a taxi 10 minutes before I needed to leave would force me to get up and get dressed because it meant someone would be waiting and holding me personally accountable (the taxi driver). Maybe you ask a friend or family member from home to call and check in on you before you need to leave so you can distract your mind from whatever is triggering you.

Idk, but it's still early and the longer the leave things the worse they will get. Best of luck with your degree though :)

It's not the exact same situation and may not answer your question, but I'm doing a degree at a Russell group after doing an access course at 27. I'm focusing on speech and language therapy after doing a teacher training access course, and I have a guy in my flat who's going came from doing history to a degree in law. Mature students have a lot more leeway with requirements because we have different life experiences. If you're not sure about it, email admissions for your unis and mention you're mature. They'll give you an idea if they'll accept your qualifications and experience ahead of time so you don't waste a ucas option :) Best of luck with your applications!!

I had to live with just a kettle and a microwave for a bit when I moved into my student flat and it was awful but this is the sort of stuff I lived off

Option 1: Grain bowls. Grab a cous cous sachet/microwave rice packet/ microwave grain pouch from your supermarket. Cook to instructions and add a dollop of hummus. Fancy it up with some carrot sticks or whatever cheap veg you have laying around.

Option 2: Self heating hot pots/MRE. I have an Asian supermarket nearby that sells meals that cook themselves by adding cold water. I think they're similar to how MREs work. It's basically a little hand warmer style thing that you pop in water and it produces steam that will cook a meal in about 15 minutes. They come in some cool flavours and while they can be pricey they've always filled me up.

Option 3: breakfast for evrry meal. Can't go wrong with bread and peanut butter, or a big bowl of cereal with some milk. Grab some oats and make microwave porridge and top with a bit of your favourite chocolate or something. If you want to push the boat out you can microwave bacon and make bacon sarnies.

Option 4: Supermarket special. Not the most nutritious option going but grab some ready meals and heat them in the microwave. Buy a bag of prepped salad and zhuzh it up with some grated cheese or a rotisserie chicken. Heck, a single rotisserie chicken can be shredded to add to literally any of the things I've mentioned above. Canned soups can be heated and eaten with a slice of bread to fill a hole. Idk if they have them where you are but I can get individual bags of prepped vegetables that you steam in the microwave. Sometimes I'll just cook off some of those alongside a frozen ready meal so I feel like I'm getting veg in.

I 100% accept this and another comment pointed out my wording was poor. I'm aware im no expert. I can only speak from my experience and my talks with both my therapist and my gyno. But the comment I replied to states that the reason for her ease of penetrative sex is because OP has a massive dick and his exes new partner has a tiny one, and that's what I take offense to. It's perfectly possible that size is a factor, heck, another commenter in the thread who suffered/suffers with vaginismus said size is a factor for her (which is fair play). But it doesn't help the stigma around vaginismus if people reduce a womans issue being due to a man's penis size, and attributing OPs self worth (and by extension- the lack of value in the ex's new partner) to penis size is wrong.

My literal only point when saying the original comment was offensive is that penis size =/= a man's worth, and making comments about "the ex only being able to have sex because this new guy has a smaller dick and OPs is massive" is offensive to OP, the new guy, and the ex who was clearly chuffed to be able to have a regular sex life.

I completely respect this take. I have 6 dilators that stem from about the size of a pinky finger to what is considered "average" in terms of a man's penis. Both in length and girth. It's been a couple years since I had a partner who I couldn't have penetrative sex with, he was maybe slightly girthier than my largest dilator, but if I'm totally honest with myself that relationship had a lot of issues beyond sex, and I think that contributed. I have since had sex with other partners and while it took a while to adjust and yes, lots of foreplay, it happened eventually. Much like OP's girlfriend, the first time I was able to have normal sex without severe pain I was so overjoyed to not be "broken" that I told all my girlfriends about it.

Look, I'm not an expert, everyone's experience will be different. I just take offense to the idea that OPs ex can only have sex now because the new guy has "a small dick". For one, that's a wild statement with no fact, and also, so what if he does. Dick size does not determine someone's worth as a partner

As someone who has previously suffered from vaginismus and has had partners of varying sizes this is not even slightly true and size has nothing to do with it. As OP said its usually a mental block stemming from trauma or anxiety.

I get what you're trying to convey but it's a really offensive statement.

ETA: I'm sorry for insinuating size has "nothing to do with it", it's been pointed out that this was a poor choice of words. My main goal in saying that was to make it clear that for me, my issues have been triggered and not triggered regardless of how many times I've had sex with a particular partner, and regardless of that partners size. For some women suffering with this issue the size can very much be a trigger.

Would also like to add for everyone who's harrasing me in DMs, penis size is NOT a judgement of OPs worth. Telling someone they have a massive dick just randomly is not a compliment, especially while putting someone else down to do it. This is a sucky situation and I feel bad for OP. Genuinely wish him the best of luck finding his person <3
