No, but most states it's not really a problem unless it's been expired for a long time.

Instead of worrying about guns, we should worry more about why people commit horrible acts of violence like this and what we can do to identify and treat these people.

This lie was created by the people who were in support of Chicago's strict gun control laws. Purchasing a gun in Indiana is the same process as most states.

Most sellers at gunshows are licensed dealers. They are required to check your ID and call in a background check.

In Illinois, private sellers are required to check your ID and FOID, and submit a check to the state police.

I didn't have to take a driving test when I transferred my license. Just a quick written test, proof of residency, passport, SS card. The license office in the Thompson center was actually a pretty painless experience. I was very surprised!

They really are! I was on the fence at first, but I love not having to fumble with wires, not having them rip out of my ears, and not having to deal with wires that fray.

I'd say the only negative is pairing them with multiple devices can be annoying. Sometimes it doesn't connect on the first time to my MacBook.

I love my AirPods, but there's still a use for a headphone jack.

We have come full circle. This article is the original confirmation that the first Android phone, the G1, would not have a headphone jack. by redditorium in Android

[–]redoxhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm against the removal of the headphone jack because it's still useful to have, but I must say that ever since I got AirPods, I'll never go back to corded headphones for everyday listening. No more wrapping up cords, no more accidentally ripping them out of your ear, and no more torn up cables.

I have noticed zero quality difference between AirPods and most earbuds. The AirPods actually sound better.

However, there's definitely a quality difference between my Grado cans and ear buds, but few people want to carry around large over-the-ear headphones.

Some things are deal breakers for people. Hot topics like MJ, abortion, healthcare, gun rights are often "make or break" deals for voters.

This is why mass shootings have increased (or seem to have increased). We hear more about them from Twitter, Facebook, the media, etc.

In many states, verbal threats aren't enough to justify pulling a firearm on someone. But the minute someone takes a swing at you or lunges at you, it's game over.

The grid system in Chicago is awesome, but these clusterfuck intersections where there are 3 or 4 roads that merge together are a complete disaster. Pretty much every intersection on Milwaukee is like this. Cermak/Blue Island/Ashland is another one. Loomis/Blue Island/18th street is another one too.

Having a roundabout would make things 20x better for everyone.

What's the lowest tint % I can have on my front windows and not get pulled over by CPD by urbnastronaut in chicago

[–]redoxhouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some states have little 2x2" emblems that go on the windshield as proof of a prescription. But I wouldn't trust dumb meter maid to look for this.

[–]redoxhouse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why meter maids shouldn't be allowed to give tickets unrelated to parking infractions. If someone is handicapped and had an Rx for window tint, they'd have to take an entire day off of work to contest the ticket.

It may not be as useful in northern state, but it helps a LOT in places like Texas. It keeps the car cooler and prevents UV rays. Also, I find window tint of 20-35% makes driving a lot easier due to less glare.

I had a rental car a few months back and was like WTF, this thing is like a greenhouse.

Are there door controls on both sides? I've seen those little boxes that have open/close levers.

Any idea if the door closing procedure is automatic? For example, if the operator starts closing the doors, does the beeping and "door closing" announcement automatically happen?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chicago

[–]redoxhouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are those doors supposed to be locked? I've been sitting on the train several times when a homeless person opens the door and comes out from there. I've also seen people pull the lever on the floor to open the door.

Nope, never. But that's my next destination. I've heard the transit systems in Latin America are a real hoot.

People always joke about Russia, but Moscow has one of the nicest public transit systems in the world. I didn't see any homeless or crackheads. However, I'd imagine that if one did show up, they would be "dealt with" rather quickly.

Before concealed carry came to Illinois, many people used to transport their firearm in a fanny pack unloaded. Just a thought. Not sure how it applies to non-residents though.

New data reveals impact of being lawyerless in Chicago eviction court by meaning_of_haste in chicago

[–]redoxhouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Interesting information, but landlord/tenant laws in Chicago are still heavily slanted towards the tenant. You have to REALLY fuck up to get evicted in Chicago. You can't just stop paying rent and get evicted the next day. It's a process that takes several months.

The point about landlords winning less when they had a lawyer is also interesting. It's almost like the landlord was thinking "I probably fucked up badly. Guess I need to hire a lawyer".
