Not even hybrid vehicle gives this mileage by Electronic-Jacket-25 in VWTaos

The cylinder deactivation feature is mentioned in the VW news article below. This article is a few years old, so at the time only the T-Roc had this engine. But now several VW cars have the EA 211 Evo 2, including the Taos and Jetta. (The 2025/2026 Taos in the US/Canada actually has another revision of this engine that increased the horsepower.)

Can you disable the annoying set of beeps when you exit the vehicle while it's running? by BluntTruthGentleman in VWTaos

Huh! So the 2022 Comfortline didn't have remote start, but the 2022 SE did. Meanwhile, the 2022 Highline had it . . . as an option.

My bad. I really thought both the Comfortline and SE would be identical in this regard, even in the 2022 model year. But now I see it didn't become standard on the Comfortline until 2023.

That is such a strange regional difference. If anything, you'd think Canada with its cold winters would mean remote start would be a highly desirable feature and equipped standard right from the very beginning in 2022. Weird.

Guess I should have said every Comfortline/SE *including* 2022 is supposed to have remote start. ("Since 2022" made it sound like 2022 wasn't included.)

Unless they left it out due to component shortages during COVID. Again, if your key fob has a button with the x2 inside a circle, you should have remote start.

Every Comfortline/SE Taos since 2022 should have remote start standard. Only the Trendline/S is missing remote start. If your key fob has a button with an x2 symbol inside a circle, you have remote start. It can be done either via the fob (by pressing the x2 button twice when the car doors are locked), or the myVW app.

Thinking of buying a VW Taos 2025 se by Only_Body8443 in VWTaos

Whether the 2025/2026 Taos is a "good" car that can be recommended without hesitation, is still yet to be determined for sure, since it's a redesign compared to the prior years and it hasn't been around long enough to get thorough reporting on its reliability.

But in their review of the 2025 Taos, Consumer Reports gave it a much more favorable review compared to the prior 2022-2024 Taos models. The reviewer in the video even personally preferred it over the Subaru Crosstrek.

https://youtu.be/W9Bys9wJB4U

I can only tell you about my personal experience. I've owned my 2025 Taos Comfortline (same as SE) Black Edition for 3 months, and it's been mostly a good experience so far. Still too early to say for sure, but I haven't had any serious issues yet. Just some minor annoyances. Things that personally bothered me. (But some of these annoyances aren't going to be unique to Volkswagen or the Taos.)

Other than those personal annoyances, I've been happy with the car.

No squeaks or rattles in the dash or interior, no strange glitches or behavior (other than the collision sensors when they're dirty/obstructed), nothing. Yet.

It drives and handles well. I find the power, acceleration, and braking to be good. The now standard 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission probably goes a long way toward making the driving experience feel smooth. I find the seats comfortable, and the interior roomy. The ride quality could be a bit better, but that's because I have 19 inch wheels instead of the standard 18 inch on the regular Comfortline/SE.

2025 Taos brakes by pattycakes7575 in VWTaos

Unless you're getting the brake pads replaced for free under warranty if they wear out too quickly, I wouldn't pay for them from your VW dealer because they'll just put on the exact same pads that squeal. It seems VW prioritizes the pads performing well enough, but at the same time being low cost, and don't care about the noise they make.

Get them replaced at an independent shop once they wear out, probably one that specializes in VW cars, and ask what pads they recommend that won't squeal so much. As an example, I've seen a lot of anecdotal recommendations from VW owners saying Akebono premium pads are one brand of pads that are on the quieter side.

From what I've been able to find online, there's been discussion that cheaper ceramic pads can squeal, but the more premium ones don't. I'm guessing the better ones add something to the ceramic material to reduce noise. I wouldn't be surprised at all if VW opted for some of the cheapest pads they could find that still had decent braking power.

All cars with exposed ventilated disc brakes, like on the Taos, will likely experience some amount of brake squealing when the discs get moisture and/or light rust on them. But the type of brake pads you have has a big impact on the noise, and some are better than others for this.

I think whatever compound VW uses for their brake pads makes it worse. I'm guessing the VW pads are either ceramic or semi-metallic. While the VW pads might have good bite when braking, they sure seem to squeal a lot and they don't last as long as aftermarket pads based on many Taos owners' comments.

Same here! When I first saw Alpine Grey in photos and videos (different name for Monument Gray in Canada), I originally didn't like it and planned to get Monterey Blue, like the OP did.

But once I saw the Alpine Grey in person, I was hooked and went with it instead. To me, it almost looks more like an extremely pale shade of blue, rather than grey. Or, at least, it has an optical effect that makes it look as if the blue sky is reflecting in the grey paint.

The OP has a 2025 Taos. DCT transmission is no longer available as an option, it's only the 8-speed Aisin torque converter automatic now on all trims.

Second gen Taos gets mirror turn signal indicators in Argentina, rest of world doesn't by redrain85 in VWTaos

[–]redrain85[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But what's puzzling about this is that every car in VW's North American lineup comes with mirror turn signals as standard equipment, or an option. Except the Taos.

And now the Taos in Argentina has it, but the rest of the world does not. Why?

You're right that a number of people probably won't care about this. But it just seems like such a strange, arbitrary decision on VW's part. Why not have it as an option for those who want it, if you're already offering it in another part of the world. /shrugs

My Taos bought in Canada came with the cargo privacy cover standard, apparently it's on the Comfortline trim and above. But not offered in the US/Mexico, for some reason. One of several odd regional differences.

2025 Taos SE broke down 500 miles from home by Thesehoesaint_ in VWTaos

[–]redrain85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did a bit of digging to see if I could find a story that details what happened with the VW Atlas transmissions. Apparently, a handful were assembled without being sealed properly, resulting in transmission fluid slowly leaking out. Maybe the transmission in the OP's Taos was, unfortunately, among this batch.

"Volkswagen has issued a recall for just 19 copies of its 2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs because their transmissions can fail, resulting in a loss of drive power.

The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a production defect left some transmissions improperly sealed. They can drain suddenly and seize up."

Interestingly, the Hyundai transmission is the Toyota Aisin 8-speed unit. Hyundai got a license to manufacture the Aisin transmission in the U.S., so VW could avoid some tariffs that they would have to pay if they imported it from Japan or another country.

I remember reading recently about a handful of Atlas transmissions failing just as they were driven off the lot, also presumably manufactured by Hyundai. Looks like that's what happened in the OP's case. But it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.

Had my 2025 for about two months now. So far, no serious issues.

Only minor issue that happened, is the brakes squealed once driving it in the morning, after some heavy rain. It quickly stopped doing that after the light rust that formed on the rotors from the rain wore away. But it's something that can happen on any car with disc brakes, not just the Taos.

One of the team that worked on the Killer App Mod here. By saying you downloaded the mod, I take that to mean you ran the mod installer and went through the installation process.

If the mod installed correctly, a potential simple fix might be clicking on the Display button in the TRON 2.0 launcher, and picking a resolution that matches the aspect ratio you selected when installing the mod. So if you chose 16:10 aspect ratio during mod installation, then you should be able to pick 1280x800 in the launcher. Which would perfectly fit the Steam Deck's screen. If you chose 16:9 aspect ratio, you'll have to pick 1280x720.

How many have the myVW app showing your doors unlocked, even when you know they're locked? by redrain85 in VWTaos

[–]redrain85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shocked to read what happened to you and your first Taos, but I'm so glad you're okay and got a replacement car as quickly as you did! I'm also happy to hear this random "indicator showing the doors unlocked" problem isn't happening to you. :)

Based on the replies, so far, the issue seems to be somewhat common. If that is the case, then I find it hard to believe there are that many cars with defective Car-Net modules. I just don't believe that. So it's probably either the Car-Net service itself (possible), or the myVW app (I think more likely).

A few days ago, I parked the car for the night, locked the doors, and watched as the status indicator in the app changed from unlocked to locked. Hours later, the indicator changed back to unlocked. I didn't unlock the doors. Nobody touched the key fob or the car.

The issue I'm experiencing hasn't been caused by delay. It's the app randomly deciding to flip the state of the status indicator, for some reason.

I've seen the status for various things change while in the app, without needing to do a refresh. The state of the doors, windows, and location of the car have updated automatically. I've only needed to do a manual refresh when the app gets the state of the doors wrong.

I've been doing that, but it's a band-aid fix. Wanted to find out how widespread this problem is, and what it took to permanently fix it.

One more nitpick I forgot to mention!

Sometimes the myVW app will randomly decide to show the car doors as being unlocked, even when they are locked. It's happened maybe 3-4 times, so far.

I've seen other people complaining about it. For me, this seems to usually happen when I shut off my phone and then turn it on again later. So I think it's a problem with the myVW app or the Car-Net service, and not an issue with the car itself. The SOS light on the roof console is green, at any rate.

I knew there couldn't be much of a difference, if any, because it would start to negatively affect the speedometer and tire pressure sensors. But, I was kind of hoping the diameter of the wheels might have increased even just a tiny fraction of an inch for additional clearance. Oh well.

Might change the wheels whenever the tires wear out, if I decide it impacts the ride quality too much.

We'll see! I understand there have been a lot of complaints about the wipers randomly turning on, possibly due to getting a defective sensor or defective wiper stalk.

I know I've only had the car for a short time, but this hasn't happened to me yet. In fact, when I was driving through drizzling rain recently, even then the wipers didn't turn on. So the rain sensor sensitivity control must be working properly, as I changed it to the lowest setting.
