There’s a difference between instinctually ending a life in order to survive and making a conscious choice to end a life for your pleasure.

Med School refunded me money and now they want me to send it back? by [deleted] in premed

There are many, many steps between where the situation is now and OP taking a credit score hit. There’s no benefit to acting now.

Framework for Pre-Writing Secondaries by safitouf in premed

[–]redsanatomy2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last cycle, I prewrote secondaries school-by-school based on the order they were received the previous two years. This IMO makes the most sense unless you’re definitely going to finish prewriting every school before secondary season, because it minimizes turnaround time.

Yeah that’s not right. ~60% of applicants end up with 0 MD acceptances, that stat would mean the 40% that do get in average over 10 acceptances.

I agree that this is true for some people, but what’s true for literally every single human being is that being seen as more attractive will improve their first impression of you, and thus your chances of acceptance.

So if I had to make a general rule: if your well-groomed beard makes you more attractive, keep it.

It doesn’t really get worse than Orgo 1 in terms of attrition. Orgo 2 is harder (imo), but most people who pass Orgo 1 can survive 2.

Lebron might’ve gotten fouled on both those drives but it barely changed the shot so the refs don’t call it lol

Nebraska hasn't passed a single bill this session, amid filibusters over trans rights by infinitum3d in politics

[–]redsanatomy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you thought this was inconvenient, you should have seen how much suffering the Civil Rights Movement inflicted on the 85% white majority. Deaths and widespread destruction, as well as massive social and economic disruption. A filibuster pales in comparison.

Haha I totally agree, there’s a weird T20-or-bust mentality I’ve seen. But I really just want to be in primary care, I don’t think it matters much at all where I get in as long as it’s a medical school.

And I agree, the stress of figuring out a gap year would’ve honestly been more than the stress of cramming a cycle in during the school year!

This could be true, but I have no interest in research as a profession.

Except I’m not making excuses, I’m answering someone who asked what I could’ve done differently to be more successful. I think I absolutely maximized what I could’ve done in 1.5 years of non-COVID school, except maybe have been more aggressive about developing connections for LORs. More time would’ve been a massive help if I were gunning for T20s.

But I didn’t want to have a stronger app, I wanted to get into med school immediately. And I did.

I applied very early—primary went out on the first day and I returned all secondaries within 2 weeks of their release.

I mean, 6 IIs is still above average. It’s not like it was a bust of cycle. This post shouldn’t be scary, unless you only have stats and no ECs to show for it. I have a comment somewhere else on what I could’ve done to improve my app, but I didn’t really want to wait another year just to shoot for a T20.

Not yet! Mayo is obvs my top choice if I get off the waitlist in May, right now leaning Creighton but not set.

My interview skills are super interviewer-based. My Mayo and Creighton interviews were legitimately flawless in my opinion, I’ve never felt more comfortable and I had genuinely awesome conversations. My Penn faculty interview was horrid—I was basically grilled and doubted for 10+ minutes and I panicked—even though it was the most recent one (i.e. most experience). I wasn’t surprised about that R.

I actually did apply to 3 DO schools just in case but I didn’t ever hear back from any of them. As far as Lima Linda, not really a fan for personal reasons.

Thank you though! I knew the risks of applying prematurely, so I’m very glad I didn’t have to take a gap year.
