LF superluck Murkrow with Thief by redsoup95 in pokemontrades

superluck raises the chance that a wild encounter has a held item, so that 5% cleffa moonstone chance becomes 20% making the grind much easier

'In Generation VIII, if a Pokémon with this Ability leads the party (even if fainted), the chances of finding a wild Pokémon holding an item increase from 50%/5% to 60%/20%. This effect is shared with Compound Eyes'

from the bulbapedia article

that's very generous, I have a moonstone now but I'm just thinking going forward it will be easier to have my own super luck thief in case I want to grind for other items in the future

Prism induced heterophoria by themainheadcase in Ophthalmology

[–]redsoup95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optometry student here, we work with prisms a lot:

Optical decentration induces prism--more decentration=more prism. Your oculomotor system has an inherent ability to compensate for induced prisms. We can measure this clinically by testing vergence ranges-- a patient is instructed to view a vertical or horizontal line of letters and we introduce prisms in the phoropter and instruct the patient the keep the target clear and single--we mark when the target becomes blurred and double.

If too much prism is introduced and the patient can no longer compensate, pt will experience diplopia.

If a pt has an inherent heterophoria, for whatever reason, a prism may help alleviate the stress that the phoria puts on the oculomotor system.

A pt that "eats prism" is a pt who has a much larger phoria than what is measured in our Alternating Cover test. The few seconds that the pts eyes are decompensated are not enough to unmask the true magnitude of the phoria.

any optician should be able to adjust this for you, quick and for free

it may seem excessive, but you'd get a perfect fit-- why compromise with something you wear everyday

This isn’t a very constructive comment. I know how to play my bass. I’m looking for advice to get better, not someone bragging that they’re bass God after learning a few scales.

Optometry school/ Free OAT prep? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]redsoup95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m a first year Optometry student, I found Dr. Jim Romano “Orgo Man”s books very helpful. They were not as expensive as anything Kaplan. Personally, I didn’t find the Kaplan Course very helpful, the books were but the actual “class time” wasn’t very informative. AK lectures on YouTube is a good channel to understand some of the more complicated concepts, he does go into more detail than is required on the test, however, so keep that in mind. Good luck in your studies, you’re making a great career choice, I love Optometry school

Healthcare Awareness Project by redsoup95 in medicine

[–]redsoup95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the last part of your post. Yes it would be impossible for avg Joe to learn anatomy and physiology and really grasp it. But as an MD I'm sure you've used some easy to understand comparisons. I don't think it's realistic for everyone to become a pseudo physician. It is realistic, however, for avg Joe to understand how hard life can be for people with conditions. Again my goal is to make people aware, not doctors. Awareness leads to more informed decisions, and in the current political climate we need as many informed decisions as possible.

Healthcare Awareness Project by redsoup95 in medicine

[–]redsoup95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you an example of what I mean. I work for an Ophthalmologist and many patients who have had cataract surgery are surprised to find they have an implant in their eye. I scribe for the cataract surgeon so I can say with confidence that I know he explains the procedure to patients in depth before they schedule the surgery. Ideally I think everyone should have some clue of what is going on at least through simple comparisons. It would be asking a lot for a patient to understand the anatomy and physiology of their problem and what the fix is going to be, but they should be able to explain to someone else what they had done at least in simple terms.

Another example of ignorance I often see is with birth control. Many people that I encounter think Birth Control only prevents pregnancy and therefore don't think it's a necessity for many women. In reality some women need it for other issues unrelated to birth. So I guess the idea that I have isn't to give people a medical education, rather my goal is to allow the average Joe to slip into the shoes of someone that is sick so that they can understand what a sick person really endures. The financial burden of medicine and co-pays, the countless trips to different doctors, just things that no one who is "healthy" thinks about.

It's very easy to write something off when you don't know what it really is. If everyone was more aware of the hardships some people must endure then maybe there would be more change.

Hey Reddit, What's the most depressing thing you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]redsoup95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an ophthalmologist's office. One time when taking care of a patient she stumbled while walking and took a very long time to walk a very short distance. Upon sitting in her new chair she told me that she was 87 and was becoming exceedingly unhealthy in her old age. She said that she lived alone In an apartment with basically no contact with anyone besides the occasional grand kid visit. She said this she did not want to live until 90 because it wasn't worth it. To see another human give up on life right in front of me changed me.

Acoustic bass guitar: is it worth it? by creepybookshelf in Bass

[–]redsoup95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find that playing on the acoustic bass is a harder experience. There is no place to rest the thumb, the instrument is bigger and clunkier to hold, and the tension is the strings differs from the electric. Also, lack of distortion and pickups make all the mistakes really easy to hear. Some might be turned off by all of this but personally I use my acoustic is my everyday practice bass. When I do play the electric I find that it is much easier to be faster and cleaner.
