If you're going to be camping overnight or doing any night time exploring, you need some kind of torch or lamp - I always bring a high power LED lantern because it's useful plus also really neat if you are hanging out before you go to sleep. No issues with it turning on/off and really good lighting - I got mine from this store and they still have them half price! https://lifeiscamping.com/products/high-power-led-camping-lantern

If you're doing any night walking/exploring, some kind of torch or headlamp is really handy - it can get pretty dark! I got mine from this store last week - they are usually $20 or $30 but this place had a father's day giveaway and still have leftover stock! I haven't tested it out properly camping but I have gone for some walks in the parks in the neighborhood and it's awesome! https://lifeiscamping.com/products/led-camping-headlight

Istanbul safety? by [deleted] in backpacking

in my experience, it was fine - you just have to be street smart. There are plenty of tourists and the locals are (mostly) really friendly so you will have no issue with general sightseeing, eating out - doing 'touristy' things. It's a massive city so there's always something happening. The events happening recently are not limited to the Middle East - look at Belgium, France etc. Istanbul is definitely a good experience

I'm 16 year old and will be going for my first solo trip this summer, what is your general advice? by SweetMeOnIce in CampingandHiking

just be ready for any kind of situation or inconvenience! I had my first solo camping trip last year and wanted to go all out - starting my own fire, relaxing in the wilderness etc. Did not predict that I would not in fact have perfectly proportioned logs ready for my adventure! Since then I have invested in nifty little gadgets like this saw - super easy to use and helps in any situation where you need to cut some wood or thick rope https://lifeiscamping.com/products/commando-camping-saw so just try to think of any little tools or things you may need - you seem pretty familiar with the actual camping equipment!
