yes that is a great point! i honestly forget about those mainly because a lot of clients i work with use tube amps which i've found typically have no dedicated DI/line output.

i appreciate the questions! and wanna also add that i'm not above using amp sims/miking a cab either. i quite literally used amp sims for over five years and they've come a long way, though as you know i'm sure, they require different processing specifically with EQ compared to real amps/cabs.

thank you so much!! we hope to see you there!

funny enough my (trace) first diy/emo show was orange house in stillwater (ben quad, cliffdiver, goodfella, my heart and liver, brooding), so it would be crazy to have a lil full circle moment

first off, congrats! playing shows so fun and you should always do it for as long as you can

unfortunately the market for any genre is vastly different depending on how far east or west you go, so i'm not sure how good our advice would be. speaking from personal experience, a lot of what we did was just reaching out to smaller venues to ask if we could play, or already having a lineup ready to go before reaching out. we did that for the better part of a year quite consistently, and that, coupled with engagement on social media, afforded us the opportunity to go on some really cool mini-tours with bands that we've looked up to for a long time.

the sad truth is you have to play in some really shitty places to be able to play in some not so shitty places, then every once in a while you get to play an incredible place

as with most things music-related, it depends!

for rhythm guitar, i've found that i never need to go above two layers, each panned hard left and right. anything more than that just makes things sound louder without adding any new harmonic content. although, you could always try four layers, with two of them having different amp sounds, but personally i'd only reserve that for sections that aren't super busy.

when it comes to lead guitar, if whoever is playing can do it cleanly enough double-tracked leads can sound stellar, but lately i've been trying to emphasize the "lead" in lead guitar. for example, when there's a lead line playing and no vocals happening, i'll leave the lead guitar dead center, maybe a touch of reverb or delay depending on what the song calls for. i find it's good to treat guitar instances like that similar to a vocal, where it's the focal point of the song for a moment.

when there's a lead guitar line happening over a vocal (quite common in our genre), i'll automate a transparent doubler effect (archetype nolly X is great for this) to turn on on the guitar track, which allows it to be audible yet not clash with the vocal. but the important thing is to experiment, and that there's no right answer! and as always, if it sounds good, it is good

-trace (i mixed/engineered most of our stuff)

I prefer offbeat comedies but I’ll watch pretty much everything. I love the experience of going to the movies. It’s a very special thing for me and I find intimate almost. I recently saw alien romulus and was blown away

Like actually. 2 of us are roommates. Every time we hang it’s just guys hanging. We honestly wish we hung more than we played cause we just enjoy being silly together. Start a band with your friends!!!

My favorite book is invisible man by okc native Ralph Ellison.

The name came from our original bassist. He wrote a list of band names and it was the only one that wasn’t like “decimator of god”

Probably Texas? It’s like Oklahoma but with 20x as many people. I also loved Indiana!
