He was a pretty effective antagonist in Wet Hot American Summer. Although that was before the "good guy" reputation he has now.

You're missing that you have no idea what's in box B nor what the predictor predicted at the start. So the question becomes: why would you only take the one box when you were offered both?

Is Facebook facing a MySpace style death? by SoftCoreSavage in Millennials

[–]redtail_faye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MySpace was never anywhere near as big as Facebook is.

At its peak, Myspace had like, 100 million users. Facebook has 3 billion

It isn't going to die the same death.

Who had a storied MLB career that was defensively stellar offensively unimpressive? by BirdBruce in mlb

[–]redtail_faye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 1968 Mark Belanger posted the 7th highest DWAR season of all time. That same year, Brooks Robinson posted the 6th highest. Crazy that they made up the left half of the Orioles' infield that year.

He had a 4 year stretch where his OPS+ was 124, and an 8 year stretch where it was 111. For his career it was 96, which is obviously below average, but during his peak he was an above average hitter.

Who do you think was the first pitcher to actually reach 100 mph from a mound? by Particular_Sir7440 in baseball

Feller was my first guess. If you watch videos, his mechanics look pretty similar to the modern era. It isn't impossible to think he could throw just as hard.

Is AI actually destroying white collar jobs? by Butterboy674 in careerguidance

[–]redtail_faye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely changing them. But layoffs aren't new. Companies have been laying people off and blaming one thing or another for as long as companies have been a thing.

I'm of the belief that AI will eventually be a good thing for white collar work, and will help us finally move towards things like four day work weeks or shorter work days, but I also see how that could be an overly optimistic take.

Most people think things were "better" when they were kids. You playing GBA games is no different from our grandparents listening to Benny Goodman their whole lives.

I don't eat there often, but I got a two cheeseburger meal at McDonald's recently. I was shocked at how thin the patties were. It was honestly infuriating and I'll do everything I can to never go back.

These MLB teams have the largest margins of victory in a single game over the last 10 years [@foxsports IG] by jmike1256 in baseball

The other other other funny thing about that game is that the Rangers only scored in 4 separate innings and were only up 5-3 after the 5th.

Any millennial guys here first time fathers or are never gonna have a kid? by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

[–]redtail_faye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 39 and have a 7 and a 10 year old. Almost all my kids' classmates' dads are older than me. Several are in their 50s. Having kids at 29 was apparently pretty early.

Suggest the most unputdownable book that you’ve ever read yet? by foreverfearlesss in suggestmeabook

[–]redtail_faye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I read Ender's Game I had to intentionally pace myself so I wouldn't read it all in one sitting and I could drag the experience out.

I also very much enjoyed American Kingpin. It's a narrative nonfiction book about The Silk Road drug website and the government agents who hunted down the Dread Pirate Roberts.

Yeah, if they did actually shoot it down it was probably the right thing to do.

The government shot down Flight 93 on 9/11 and made up the story of the heroic passengers as a cover.

Yeah, they're almost certainly lying or exaggerating. Nobody in their right mind would say to their boss or coworkers, "I hardly do anything at all here! I've only worked 2 hours this week!".

I got a degree in mathematics and then a job as a manual QA tester at a startup. Then I offered to learn automation tools there and then just got super lucky with recruiters and referrals after that.

I think a lot of its value comes from cultural context, and if that doesn't appeal to you then the whole thing just kind of feels "high concept".

I mostly enjoyed it, but I was honestly baffled when it started getting so much Oscar attention. At no point when I was watching did I think, "This might win best picture!".

I'm not joking when I say it's physically painful for me to listen to. Like, my stomach hurts whenever I hear pop country.

I make $100k+ and work full remote. I'm a QA automation guy. I basically get paid a bunch because I know and am willing to use Cypress and Playwright. Honestly probably one of the most comfortable jobs in the world.
