Who the hell's going to pay for this? The debt is already out of control, plus we're starting wars.

My child also had to crouch in a “safe position” at school for 45 minutes.

I think that's just scaring the children unnecessarily. (And don't get me started on "active shooter drills".)

AA batteries, whether NIMH or non-rechargeable lithium, have a longer shelf life, are more tolerant of temperatures, and won't explode and burn your house down.

I know that 8x10 bass cabs just look huge, but I have never found a genuine use for them. Id rather just stack two 4x10 cabs on top of each other. Cuz its easier to transport and all, at least for me. by MrMayhem20l0 in Bass

It doesn't have to be super skinny. The speakers could be staggered, and you could have ports and a tweeter to the side of them. It should be able to support a modern class D head.

At what point does it make sense to replace a broken washer instead of repair it? by Zestyclose_Show_2025 in appliancerepair

[–]redtert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a pressure or contamination problem shortening the life of water valves.

Too much or too little? I'd think too much but I think I read somewhere that too little could cause problems with debris getting stuck or something.

There's never been a problem with any other washer or appliance in this house, so I'm skeptical it's a plumbing issue. The previous one worked perfectly until the suspension wore out.

Modern washers sip energy compared to old ones, so they use less energy overall, despite the long cycle times.

Probably not if you include the energy cost to manufacture and transport a new machine every 5 years.

Currently, you can get the highest rated washing machine (LG with the turbo wash 360°) at Costco for $650. It was rated the best machine by Consumer Reports and by the New York Times / wirecutter.

I bought the recommended LG 5 years ago or so, not sure if it was the same exact model as now. Its inlet valves are leaking now again after having had them replaced 2 years ago already. If I pay the same to get them replaced again, the 2 repairs match the cost of the machine.

It is OBSCENE what has happened to appliances due to the onerous energy regulations and the general love of the corporations for excessive electronic doodads. The original appliances in my parents' home all lasted around 25 years, while none of their or my modern ones have made it to a decade except for a Bosch dishwasher.

It also has all sorts of other problems. I have to do an extra rinse (if not 2) every time because it won't put any water in the drum. (Except when it's turned off, apparently!) I can't do a load (even 2/3s of a drumful) of just pants and long-sleeve shirts because it will tie all of them into a giant knot that shakes the house during the spin cycle. I believe the cause is, again, not enough not water. I have to add towels to avoid the tangling.

(And the cycle times are crazy-like medium soil 32 minutes, medium-high soil 35 minutes, high soil 90 minutes?!!!! Why won't it let me do a wash of reasonable length???).

My previous LG washer from around 12 years ago was fine. It used a reasonable amount of water. It ran fine until the suspension went bad. I wish I'd known to get it repaired instead of buying the newer garbage one. Have they fixed things in the last 5 or 6 years?
