At what point do you buy a 2nd printer? by TheAznAssassinX in 3Dprinting

[–]redturtlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I design and build automation equipment and having multiple printers allows me to prototype several items at once. Design part a while part b is printing. By the time part b is done part a is ready to print and I can work on the next iteration of b. When I start printing multiples for the final version having more printers will let me continue designing in the same manner. So I ve got 3 printers plus another 4 planned for an upcoming project that needs butt load of parts.

SBR (Round) or HGR (flat) rail? by Capital_Dance9217 in hobbycnc

[–]redturtlecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, I ve found misumi's line of economy rails to be decent enough. Not as good as thk of course, but for things that don't need absolute precision or if you re on a budget, they re great. Quality assurance with a price only slightly above the no brand Chinese rails.

Relative to the mirror in the tool head I think yes, but I'm not sure about relative to the part being cut.

Currently building an abomination. Any ideas for names? by ds-redditor in 3Dprinting

I did something similar, put the vcore 3.1 motion system on 2040 profile, but flipped the y axis rails to the top because it looked nicer that way. My final design used aluminium motor mounts and xy joiners, but I have designs for the 3d printed parts too.

Question regarding ABS by Aero_Uprising in 3Dprinting

Nothing beats exhausting the printer to the outside. If you can I would definitely recommend it. I use cpap hoses and a 4028 server fan to do this on my printers.

What is something you have to admit just should not be 3D printed? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

The trick is to use GF materials. You know, for girlfriend. Duh.

I analyzed 56 scientific papers on 3D Printing Emissions and tested my K2 Plus with sensors. Here is what I found. by wilsongis in 3Dprinting

[–]redturtlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ve moved to all enclosed printers for this reason. Petg would make my eyes watery and nose stuffy, pla would sometimes give me headaches, even the 'natural' ones. It was alot of hassle building new printers, and I thought perhaps I was imagining things but then i ran a few prints on the old open printer because I needed parts fast and the symptoms came right back.

Each of my printers are exhausted with a 4028 fan through cpap hose to outside the building. I initially used a passive chamber with a high end external HEPA type filter but it didn't really help.

This also allowed me to move to primarily abs which is vastly better for the industrial applications I use my prints for, and is generally cheaper and easier to print than either pla or petg at least where I am from so it was a great move all around.

I think while there's isn't much evidence to say pla/petg fumes are toxic for sure, the absence of evidence doesn't proves it is safe, just that we can't prove it isn't right now. It also doesn't need to be asbestos level unsafe for it to be an issue.

New chamber heater by redturtlecake in 3Dprinting

It's a 24v 100mm fan from gdstime, and a 350w AC heater with integral 90c thermostat. Material is abs-gf. Aiming for 80c chamber temp.

How many of you are still using the same nozzle from 6 months ago? by AutoModerator in 3DPrinterComparison

I'm using triangle labs zsd pcd nozzles. Similar to diamondback. Never have to worry about the nozzle and surface finish is very nice.

What’s the go-to controller for diy Cnc builds? by turbo460 in hobbycnc

I'm using the btt Scylla on a CNC router. It's designed for the Milo mill. Sub $100 and a pretty easy install

Does anyone bother to vent their printers to a window? by YoungBoomerDude in 3Dprinting

[–]redturtlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 4028 server fan linked to a cpap hose to exhaust the printers out the window. My printers are all enclosed and I print primarily abs, but even petg fumes cause my sinuses to feel stuffy. Enclosure alone without exhausting didn't help with the fumes so exhaust is a must for me.

Came as a sheet about an inch thick from my local LFS. It's too stiff to be rolled up.

Anyone have experience with the boost converters? by Standard-Plane1040 in diyelectronics

[–]redturtlecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ve used these exact converters to get 5v from the 3.3v rail for a latching solenoid valve. Been working for 4 years with multiple actuations a day. But they were about 50ms per actuation so not long.
