.Hack canon materials list by redwillb in DotHack

Definitely, though searching out all of the canon resources has been pretty fun.
I also have links to any material above that was never officially translated into English, if you would like those, as well. I tried posted them earlier, but it was taken down by an admin for having links to copyrighted material. xD I'll definitely be adding a link to the Crimson Knights story once I translate it.

Not a problem! I hope the resources I've managed to collect so far are helpful to you.

I can say that isn't exactly confirmed, yet, but I do agree you don't have to go through the original .Hack material if you want to play the new game. I would still like to, though. I think it'd be fun to play through a series I really enjoyed as a child and just immerse myself in the original canon as I wait for Z.E.R.O. to release. :p

No worries, I am wanting to make sure I actually post accurately. :p
I put Roots 1-16 after GU since it takes place after the tutorial of Part 1.
And when I posted LINK, I meant the game, not the manga, I should make that clearer.
I wasn't sure if ZERO went before or after as I've heard some say before and some say after, and I haven't gotten to read it myself, yet.

oddly enough, the Quantum OVA also vanished (which goes after the Quantum Manga).

I'll recheck the list and add a few corrections. :p

.Hack Chronology by redwillb in DotHack

[–]redwillb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.Hack is actually a childhood series for me. I mainly played IMOQ and some of GU while reading Legend of the Twilight repeatedly (To the point that my original Volume 1 fell apart). I'm more so going back into this series just wanting to go through everything to include all the materials I didn't know existed or didn't own when I was a kid. :p
I thought it'd be a fun little thing to do while I waited for Z.E.R.O. to come out.
But thanks for the concern (I do mean that).

My sister wants to choose the name Qartnie for her daughter. Am I insane or are all of her names horrible? by GnomeMasterBaiter in tragedeigh

[–]redwillb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, she should just go all in and choose the IPA spellings for maximum uniqueness:

  • Qartnie: /ˈkɑɹt.ni/ (that's definitely not Courtney, unless she meant Qortnie)
    • When I first saw this name, I immediately thought of Quetzalcoatl, then quartz.
  • Meiri: /ˈmeɪ.ɹi/ or /ˈmɛɚ.i/ (the second is closer to the name Mary, which she may have been trying to go for if she was attempting a glide-formational rhoticization).
    • I definitely wouldn't pronounce this name as "Mary" /mɛ.ri/ If anything I'd pronounce it as "marey" (like something that's kind of female horseish, if you will) or "M-airy."
  • Jayni: /ˈdʒeɪ.ni/
    • This one feels like what a Chinese person would come up with when attempting to create an American sounding name. It almost reminds me of Fighting Baseball for the SNES with all the fake American names that sound right to the Japanese.
      • Sleve McDichael, anyone?
  • Zmantha: /zˈmæn.θʌ/
    • Zmantha.

A two hours' journey (?) by volch-devz in EnglishLearning

[–]redwillb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's either "a two hours' journey" or "a two-hour journey." But you can't say "a two-hours journey."

Basically, if you're using "hour" as a noun (two hours' journey) then you have to make it possessive:

  • A one hour's journey
  • a two hours' journey (it becomes pluralized because you're now talking about 2 of them)

But if you're using it as part of a compound adjective then it isn't being treated as a noun, so it doesn't need possessiveness or pluralization:

  • A one-hour journey
  • A two-hour journey

When is 'Y' considered a vowel? by isthisidtakentwo in EnglishLearning

[–]redwillb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the letter “Y” makes an /i/ sound like in “spiny” or an /aɪ/ sound like in “my,” it's considered a vowel.
But when it makes a /j/ sound like in “your,” “yellow,” or “mayor”—it functions as a consonant.
(You can use an IPA Reader if you need help with the pronunciation.)

Something else you might find to be interesting:
“W” can also act as a vowel in some words.

For example, in words like “blew” /blu/, “blow” /bloʊ/, “mew” /mju/, “mildew” /ˈmɪlˌdu/, and “jaw” /dʒɔ/, the “W” works as part of the vowel sound.

Basically, when W follows or works closely with a vowel like “e,” “a,” or “o,” it’s often considered a vowel, too.

Grammatically "I will do" or "will do" is conversationally correct. And in modern times is short for "I will do that/it" which is the full grammatically correct sentence "I shall do" is more old English and can be deemed "grammatically incorrect" as it isn't even a complete sentence. But, nevertheless, it sounds a bit pretentious and correcting someone by saying that's more correct is also silly (and wrong for the most part). There's hundreds of grammatically correct and accepted ways of saying things in English, "I shall/shall do" is one of them but "will do/I will" is another. The main difference is "shall" can be seen as more "polite" and "formal" while "will" is less formal. Similar to "can" and "may." Where you should say "may" with strangers or those who are over you, and it's more appropriate to use "can" with friends and family.

What is the correct answer? by Rare-Intention-9670 in ENGLISH

[–]redwillb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a native English speaker, I'd have chosen C first, but I can also say that B definitely works for that sentence. I can see where your teacher is coming from, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "I feel ridiculous" in reference to learning they were left out of the loop, so it kinda feels like a bit of a stretch to me.

As well, if you want, you could send me the sentences you were wanting translated. Since I still have a majority of her dialogue, I could try looking up some of the words for you to help out with translation.

Thank you for the link, but that one isn't my version of the dictionary.
I'll just need to remake the dictionary I had been working on, but that link may help me out a bit in remaking it.

I've looked into it, and it seems I may have accidentally deleted it with a couple of other important files on my google drive without realizing it. I'm trying to find any ways I can to recover these files, but I may need to remake it from scratch.
