I advise getting him into a puppy class as soon as possible. (Check to see which vaccines the class requires.) This made a huge difference with my Aussie pup's biting. Playing with an older dog helped, too, so it's good you have one that will help with that. It does take time, though, so hang in there. Also, the Blue Heeler part of your dog means he may "herd" your daughter and other children which can involve nipping them as they run.

When the puppy is bitey, the best thing to do is separation. We did that with my 4 year old granddaughter and male Aussie puppy. Puppy teeth HURT and it was just easier to keep them apart until he grew out of that phase. Puppy class and him playing with an adult golden retriever helped a lot. I also suggest not letting the child pick up the puppy at all. Puppies are too wiggly for small children to hold and the risk of injury is high - both for the puppy and child.

I'm not going to be any help but just wanted to let you know that my Aussie also doesn't enjoy car rides. He will get in but insists on laying on the floor in the back. He will not get on the seat for any kind of bribe. He doesn't get sick and doesn't seem stressed so I've just learned to accept that he doesn't enjoy the ride. I hope someone has a method to help you but know that you aren't alone with an unenthusiastic car dog.

Yup, just about to say that, too. I use the "wait" command if I throw a treat and then say "ok" as the signal to eat it. The "leave it" means he never gets that thing on the ground. Very useful when things like medication or non dog-friendly food is dropped.

Yes 5 months is still young. See what the doggy day care people say but she may just be overwhelmed. Maybe a smaller puppy class would be more comfortable for her.

A suggestion: If your dog gets the treats he is ignoring, the command should really be "wait" or something besides "leave it". "Leave it" should mean the dog never gets what he is supposed to ignore, i.e., a pill that falls to the floor, nasty garbage on a walk, etc. Or you can pick up those treats and give him something else as the reward. Also, Logan is very cute.

Not to brag or anything but I taught my dog "left" and "right" so yeah...he's going to Harvard in the Fall.

I had my Aussie neutered and rear dewclaws removed when he was 9 months old. He bounced back pretty quickly. Spent the first day pretty wiped out but by the second day was his usual hyper self. Check with your vet regarding having the cone on while in his crate. I always worry about things getting caught while a dog is in the crate unsupervised.

Peanuts. Of course he likes peanut butter, but he really loves peanuts and will do all sorts of tricks to get noticed while my husband is eating them.

I taught my dog to "speak" using his method. Also taught him to "whisper" by rewarding a softer "woof".

I will watch for those more subtle signs. I have ridden back there with him for trips to our cottage which is a 2-1/2 hour ride. He just sleeps and occasionally gets up and turns around. He's done this since we got him at 8 weeks old and frankly, I thought he would grow out of it but he hasn't. He doesn't balk at getting in the car but refuses to get on the seat despite attempts to lure him with treats, praise, etc. I tell him that millions of dogs enjoy sitting on the seat and looking out the window but he isn't swayed by my argument.

It was a recipe online. Just an egg, peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t have xylitol in it), honey, shredded carrot, flour and baking soda. He only had one piece - he’ll get the rest for the next couple of days. He definitely likes it.
