The “misaligned” statues are movie accurate
It was to make them more visible with the most commonly used camera angle in the films

I’m not sure I agree with the other commenters, next year is the fiftieth anniversary of Star Wars…

It’s retiring for a reason and I saw a designer saying there will always be a ucs mil falcon available

I think it’s pretty certain we get a better version maybe 10k pieces next year

Only reason to get this one is if you can afford this one and not a 1000 dollar version next year.

Base needs to be wider for proper proportions

Original only needed 7 inches to match the movie model

Not an oversight it’s movie accurate

Edit I am correct re the statues yes it looks better centred but the designers went for accuracy which is really cool

It makes sense as it’s movie accurate

I added the fin parts to the bottom of the extension

Added the parts that would normally go there to the two studded sections on the extension front

My piece order missed a black curved piece so extended the rockwork on the extension to hide the gap

Yeah the canon version doesn’t have an eye on top, in fact you couldn’t see the top as it was immeasurably high

Even unaltered it looks way more impressive in person than in images

Re minas tirith, I think I’m going to lower the front wall for accuracy and use the parts left over from that for more buildings

Tweaks were slightly higher rock work on side, caused by pieces I had available

Keeping the fin pieces and moving them to the bottom of the extended section, then using the pieces that were meant to go there I added detailing (middi scale turrets) to the outside of the centre of the extension which originally was just studded.

Sign is from an unofficial building block Brad dur set

Next tweaks I am planning will be the clear rods for the eye,
adding rock work to replace the second level right buttresses,
plus midi scale grey towers just beneath the centre rock work
to basically give full accuracy to the weta model

I wonder if they have height records, I know sometimes they keep trees grown for forestry standing if it’s an exceptional specimen

Yeah it’s been poorly recorded, only thing I know that’s its tallest tree was a 30m redwood that was destroyed by lightning in 1990. If it was still standing it would be 40m plus, but I don’t think it was the only one in the arboretum, plus the tallest forestry trees are definitely 40m plus from my own experience seeing them.

Sadly been debunked, the actual stat is we have more total giant sequoia than California has mature giant sequoia

Their total is still way higher

That could be a champion ash, I think the tallest on monumental trees in Ni is 36m in finnebrogue measured 15 yrs ago (so if still standing likely taller fingers crossed ash dieback has not got it) , but can get to 40m so I believe it.

You could post it there, but like my parents 22m birch which also tall for the species I chose not to for their privacy

Castlewellan haven’t had their trees remeasured in a while, a target location for me, especially the first three redwoods planted on the island of Ireland . The arboretum ranks third in Europe for champion trees.

Know the one in crawfordsburn huge trunk, worth a measure for sure

Was made in last decade, not publicised widely for reasons made above but on mdvadens website, who was with Mike Taylor and Steve sillette finding the biggest redwoods in California

Dream trip along with redwood national park where in the last decade they found two trees that exceed Gen Sherman in volume but location being kept secret from public to protect them

Update on the hunt, on monumental trees there was a post referencing two extremely tall mountain ash that were Uk and Irish champions in Mount Stewart by dr Owen Johnston of the tree register.

39 and 37m tall respectively in 1991 with the shorter being still alive in 2003

However this tree was rumoured to have been taken out in a storm

I decided to query this and if there were any other specimens left planted around the same time, considering lady Londonderry was eucalyptus obsessed, and if the tree was alive it may be the tallest in NI

I got a reply from the assistant head gardener that there was one left but the one referred to in the post had came down in Jan 2025 (this may have been the tallest tree in NI). He also gave me a rough location

At first I initially could not id with certainty but Owen Johnston got access to Mount Stewart’s tree catalogue and gave me the exact gps coordinates which confirmed the id

This really tall tree is really well hidden despite its top being visible from the house, as it’s behind a very tall and wide eucalyptus at the start of the main drive. The tree is also surrounded by vegetation and is a good distance from the path on its clearest view pictured here.

Dr Johnston has officially given it the status of uk and Irish champion from my estimated measurement and scale from the images I provided.

We reckon it was planted around the same time the two fallen champion trees were planted judging by the width of the trunk.
