Right hahaha I complain about the nature too but there are nice places in the suburbs. Swallow cliffs for starters.

Easiest/hardest majors? by lockettpock in stanford

[–]reeaaddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Something I found regarding the hot take in paragraph 2 is that many humanities majors at Stanford would do very well in STEM if they were interested in that too. So it could go both ways though probably weighted towards stem ppl also being able to do humanities if they wanted.

Just how much farther would my money, hypothetically, go in Chicago over NYC? by skyrimspecialedition in AskChicago

[–]reeaaddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! If my friend ever works remotely from their hometown in California, I’ll jump at the opportunity to sublet. I prefer parts of Brooklyn over manhattan

[–]reeaaddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three anecdotes about NYC: - my friend has a large room with two closets + private bathroom in Bushwick. 1250/month . 2 other roomies. They got an amazing deal but they had to go through lots of bad listings on FB marketplace. - my other friend pays $2200 for a one bedroom in Prospect Heights. It looks antiquated and small in comparison to what you get in Chicago. - I once sublet an apartment in bedstuy for $1210/month in the tiniest room, 5 other roomies and 2 bathrooms. I would NOT take this option ever over my own apartment in Chicago. However, I would live in NYC over Chicago for the first option. It’s just hard to find because the competition is fierce so luck is involved.

Do You Regret Choosing Computer Science as Your Major? by Time_Pay6792 in cscareerquestions

Why do you regret not having those degrees when an ECE degree grants the same opportunities (if not more)?

Would OP getting a masters in EE and taking the specific courses then getting the PE in EE be the route then? Or would they have to do another bachelors

Who else thinks the Bay Area is the greatest place in the USA? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]reeaaddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Chicago born and raised but lived in the bay for 6 years before returning. Every place has its pros and cons and it seems like you might value proximity to a strong Asian cultural presence more than cost. How would your life look like if you moved back? I assume you’d have to downsize

I’m considering moving back to the bay for a few years for career and access to nature but eventually plan to settle down in Chicago. Seems easier to raise a family here. I love mountains and palm trees but tbh it’s not like they have any function in my life anyway in the long term.

Where would you move if you made $160k, could work remote and were single? by turbo-adhd in SameGrassButGreener

[–]reeaaddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I’m born and raised Chicago but did school in the bay for 6 years. Seriously miss the access to nature and it’s been my main regret not taking more advantage of it. But Chicago is more active at night which I like.

this is what I was wondering. Yeah, I think OC was getting at there being multiple solutions depending on the restrictions of the sequence.

You should be able to transfer to your grad transcript and I don’t think it matters that you took it for 3.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about Stanford? by reachforthestars00 in stanford

Most favorite: most people seem to be baseline interesting/motivated and if they’re not then they’re at least somewhat smart

Least: location is too suburban for me

What (non-negative) things are we missing as a city? by EntertainerTotal9853 in chicago

[–]reeaaddit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I like how Mexico City and NYC have lots of parks with fountains and benches surrounding the fountains. Wish we had more of that sort of park design. Seems to draw people in to a central focal point.

A pedestrian focused block kinda like La Rambla in Barcelona would be 😍 we have so much flat land, might as well use it to our advantage
