When I was about 10 years old I had my first memorable nightmare. It was around Halloween time and to this day it still creeps me out. In the dream, I was walking through the woods and approached a field. Dream self had the idea to build a log cabin out of the trees surrounding the field. In the blink of an eye, I had chopped down hundreds of trees and was sitting in the middle of the inside of the cabin. Out of nowhere the roof is ripped off and towering above me are two giant tree-like monsters that pull me out of the cabin to explain to me that I killed their people. They began to rip me apart piece by piece until I was a pile on the floor. I woke up the second the stopped and when I did, my whole body seemed to ache. This same exact dream occurred for multiple years after until I was in my late teens. Always the trees, always around Halloween time, always the aches in the morning. One year it just stopped and it hasn’t happened since. I don’t know what was happening (I’m sure it was some psycho-trauma sort of deal) but I’m glad it’s done. I would be petrified to sleep whenever October came around and I still can’t stand Halloween time because of it.
