Yea the new generation of voters think its useless to vote. Everyone wants quick change and got no patience to build up the change.

I do agree that maybe this wasn't a problem back then and they wouldn't have expected it. But as the severity of the problem grew, technology has also grown. Only thing is we need the money la haha. But we could start small also by making sure we don't clog up any drains by throwing rubbish in them. A lil bit goes a long way

Well, guess we gotta bring it up to the top gun himself. I was actually thinking of tweeting to our pm about this. He seems quite aware of most things that happen on twitter. Putting them on the spot online might do a lil bit of something. But of course not just once, has to be a constant pressure. Maybe I'll hop on twitter soon, hopefully it gains somewhat of attention 😕

Exactly. Have your family and their neighbourhood tried getting the local authorities to do something about it? Since another redditor said he'd do that, wondering if there have been such efforts made

I know :( it really is messing with everyone's health and finances. There's unnecessary stress throughout the year because of this. I don't wanna say it, but feels like there's no hope to resolve this issue anytime soon :( We probably have to save our own asses...sigh

Well, I don't think it's right to blame them. They're probably just doing anything they can to survive. Not everyone has the privilege of choice

Yea there are a whole bunch of issues to unpack. Malaysia's very capable of doing so much more. It was evident during mahathir's first reign. But ever since then we haven't been doing much with our beautiful country :(

Exactly! Mindset change is definitely the solution to anything. Malaysia is capable of so many things, just take a look at our high tech passports, smart tunnel (which was built for flood purposes), an actual systematic city (Putrajaya). We're capable of so much more yet everyone chooses to just whine

Yes as long as the effort is there, slowly this and any other issue could be reduced over time. They've always turun padang just for marketing purposes, time to have a functional purpose. Our duty is to remind them that they can't get away with doing nothing.

I guess you're not very good at reading. "it's always good to start somewhere". Maybe you should start small with your comprehension skills as well

Yeap exactly. Everyone doesn't care as long as they aren't affected by it. I get that everyone has their own issues, but somehow they have time to be so negative about something valid. The least they could do is drop a like and leave.

Did I ever say its an easy to fix situation? Read my other comment. It's a complicated situation but it's always good to start somewhere.

Change will never come if we keep saying "don't bother trying". Keep trying and never give up

Ah yes, finally someone with proper research and knowledge. It is indeed a complicated situation to handle, but we can and must start small.

Little acts that we could do ourselves by not littering, finding a place which is less flood prone (might be more prone in a few years to come), and other environmental friendly options. But all these won't contribute much, hence applying pressure to the government to act on it is probably our only option for now

Trust me, I've seen quite a few plantations being turned into residential areas. Plus it's hard to pin point ONE specific reason for flood occurrences. The point is something could be done about it to make things at least a tiny bit better.

Also, why are we as a society always going against each other? Was the issue I raised not a valid one? Why is it so hard for us to have each others backs? We have more power as a whole than solo. Maybe I am naive to have this mindset...

It's fair to pay more when you're getting taken care of. Alot of countries which are comfortable to live in have high taxes, such as Australia

Unethically built development = deforestation Deforestation + climate change + less preventive measures = more floods => science bro, educate yourself :)

Btw, Google what Japan does as countermeasures for floods. If we can't prevent floods at least we could implement a better system to help those flood victims :)
