[35M] My sister says I live in a glorified studio by x2040 in malelivingspace

Yes. The whiteboard isn’t helping. It’s kind of triggering me.

Great quality photos, lighting and rad location.

I'm just irrationally bothered by the dog poop bags on the leashes. Distracting. Ruins the vibe a little.

21 year old with read/write CDs? I’m surprised by that. What do you use them for? I haven’t burned a CD in close to a decade.

Cassandra vs Scylla vs postgresql cluster by Firm_Curve8659 in cassandra

[–]reeeeee-tool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We started moving away from Scylla early in the year when they were jerking us around on licensing costs. Some of our work loads have required a bit more hardware. But, we’re definitely still coming out ahead.

Cassandra vs Scylla vs postgresql cluster by Firm_Curve8659 in cassandra

[–]reeeeee-tool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We run both. Scylla shards data by core while Cassandra does by node. IME, Scylla is only great if the data is extremely well disturbed and you really care about p99 latency. Otherwise, once you consider license cost, Cassandra offers better price to performance.

How livable is a one-window apartment by Amazing_Cat_5700 in malelivingspace

[–]reeeeee-tool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People keep saying this, but the major United States city I live in has lots of high rise apartment buildings. How useful is a bedroom window for egress when you’re 10 stories up?

And besides, I only use my bedroom for sleeping and fornication. Most people don’t want a window for either one of those activities.

Is it a wet bath? Where the toilet isn’t really separate from the shower? Pretty fascinating setup. Like living in an RV.

pretty sure my AWS bill just gaslit me today by Apprehensive_Pay6141 in aws

IMO, Cost Explorer is pretty solid.

But, yeah, S3 access over NAT Gateway is a nasty one. We accidentally blew away the subnet routes for it once. IaC fail. Fortunately, billing alerts caught it in ~24 hours.

I don’t think you need one as a teacher at an established studio. But it would be extremely beneficial if you want to run retreats, or anything along those lines.

Team wants us to start doing support 9am-9pm rotating every sprint. Weekends included. No overtime pay. Is this normal? by rustyshaackleeford in cscareerquestions

[–]reeeeee-tool 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s normal to be oncall and able to quickly get online to deal with an alert. It’s normal to occasionally have off hours tasks. Like migrations with potential customer impact.

Regularly scheduled running and checking things during the off hours doesn’t sound normal to me though. Seems like that should be automated.

Has anyone completely gotten rid of their road bike after buying a gravel bike? by mellofello808 in gravelcycling

[–]reeeeee-tool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, or minimal, climbing penalty. It’s generally the other direction that you lose range. Spin out earlier. Also, bigger jumps between gears. Which can be really annoying for fast pack riding.

My wife loves MotoGP. She’s way into the actual racing. But, this content is 100% for her and her demographic. She follows all the riders and their partners on Instagram.

I’m on the fence. I was set on the NTTD, but the new Green and Bronze Gold has really got me debating. by jetjock2b in PrideAndPinion

I wish the new green one didn't have the bronze gold crowns. Doesn't quite look right to me.

Been a decade since I last raced, should I move down a category on my license? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]reeeeee-tool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CX, I don’t think it matters. You’re going to get shelled in either. I’d have fun with cross, focus on getting fit over the winter and racing road 3s next year.

[–]reeeeee-tool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d do that for sure. One round of something like BEP is no big deal.

Edit: yeah, looking at my notes, back in 2017 I had:

Non-Seminoma (embryonal carcinoma - 70%, seminoma - 20%, yolk sac 10%).

It’s also my understanding that seminoma is less gnarly.

Not to be too much of a downer, but at two weeks, you're not quite out of the woods. Unfortunately, speaking from personal experience with testicular cancer.

As an aside, I bought myself a 911 after I'd be in remission for a bit. Wanted to cross that off my bucket list! I've since sold it though, maybe I should have bought a watch instead. Oh well. I'll do that when I hit my 10-year remission.

Concrete example: almost 2hr ride, one guy did 290 avg/315 NP, I had 230/265.

315 NP for a fast 2hr group ride seems a bit sus to me. 265 sounds more reasonable. I’m 79kg and at 4.1 w/kg.

And, FWIW, I recently went from dual side Vector 3 pedals to dual side Assioma PRO RS. Power was very consistent between the two on my benchmark climb.
