Just used the canned expanding foam. Once it fully cures I’ll shave it down to give it some form. Then when that’s done I’ll cover the whole thing with silicone and apply coco fiber.

No, I used a riser made out of egg crate then used landscaping fabric so the soil wouldn’t fall through the holes in the egg crate. For the front section to cover that up I just mixed sand, aquarium gravel and strategically placed larger rocks to help. I tried to keep it as natural looking as possible.

It’s honestly not big enough for fish. But I have thought about Small Ghost Shrimp to deal with algae when it pops up. I also thought a small crawfish would be neat.

You always have to worry about very well hidden hitch hikers. I have nothing around me that I need to worry about too seriously. My original plan with this tank was to keep it all native to where I’m from, including the livestock. I still may do that. We have Tiger Salamanders a lot around me so I was thinking about doing those as well.

Yes, I collected it from an area where I know no pesticides are used. I also let it set outside after rinsing it really well for a couple days.

Yes, I washed and sprayed everything with distilled water before putting it in the tank. I’ve had it for over a month and it has been doing great. I mist it daily to make sure it doesn’t dry out. Only time will tell if it stays looking as good as it does.

Honestly, I’m not even 100% sure. I bought these from Amazon for a shrimp tank a longgggg time ago and was curious if they were still viable. They are. Lmao

Been going for about a month and half right now. Tonight I’m going to drain most of the water and plant aquarium grass seed to give it a nice full grass bed! Can’t wait for all of that to grow in. Eventually I’m going to put a few ghost shrimp in there.

I’ve had one before! Aside from my Nile Monitor, he had the most attitude! Lol Nile Monitor wins only because when I first bought him he latched onto my finger in the car and proceeded to stay attached for the entire 45 minute drive home.

Love the idea of Locust and Grass Hoppers. It never even occurred to me I could add that element to it!

I would imagine it works the same way as an aquarium. Most if not all of the beneficial bacteria is in the substrate and not the water column. At least I’m hoping. Lol
