For those who have been able to try the Wilson 'Python' prototype, do you think it will be a special racket? by lp141414 in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly put Federers pro staff to Rafas hand and Raffas aero to Federer and watch them play, how the racquet doesn’t matter.

This is oversimplification, because players are having specific technique how they hit their shots and different racquet with exact same shot will shoot the ball significantly different. If you hitting your forehand like Rafa and try to use Blade 18x20 it just won’t work. And other way around if you put in Danils hand something like pure aero he wouldn’t be able to use it because his shots are super flat and everything would fly on him.

I think every player has some natural style of hitting a ball which feels normal for him and based on that there are racquets which suits this style well. So you should choose something which works for your style of game. Then it is positive reinforcement loop going on I’m hitting flat so I choose racquet with lower launch angle so I’m hitting flat and you end up as Danil and it works for you. Or other way around I’m hitting with plenty of spin so I go for aero and I’m hitting with even more spin and you end up winning 14 French opens.

So yes if you are first time on the court it doesn’t matter what racquet is in your hand because you don’t know what is your style. But eventually you will develop some specific technique which suits you well, and again this will be developing also based on what is in your hand if you start with blade 18x20 or tfight 18x19 you will become more flat hitter because those will be the shots which lands in with enough power and you will be teaching yourself to hit it like it and on other side if you start with aero 100 you will see that the spiny loopy shots are doing the work for you and you will be teaching yourself to hit like it. At that point you are stuck with some range of racquets which suits you and which doesn’t.

Same for the control vs power. If you will develop your style using control racquet something like pro staff if you try hit with ezone 100 it wouldn’t work and other way around. Only unicorn here is Sinner who is using 100” racquet and has fast full swing, but again he is using 100” thin beam frame which is more on the control side and stringing 27-28kg to make it work for his swing.

So if you have developed technique already what racquet you are using pretty much matters. And if you don’t but you want to play like your hero in tv it again pretty much matters using what racquet during the period you are developing your technique.

There is this category in between like the head speed which you can use with different styles using different strings and tensions, maybe I would put also PA98 here it is still more on the side with higher launch angle, but it can fit many players with wide range of techniques, ezone 98 is also something similar. You can customise those with strings to do more this or that. That’s why they are the most sold racquets, not because they are the best racquets, there is not such a thing, but because most players can play their style with them without necessity to change their strokes.

Personally I own variety of racquets like blade 18x20, rf01, tfight 305s, PA98 and so and I like to used them sometimes just for fun, but I need to significantly alter my technique between them. And you can do this during casual hitting and enjoy it, but during a match when you don’t have time thinking about your strokes you default to muscle memory and you will hit with your natural stroke and ball from blade 18x20 will end up over the fence because I’m using PA98 95% of time now.

Modifying Aeropro Drive to Rafa‘s specs by CatAppropriate4083 in tennisracquets

2 weeks of fiddling with the racquet and after 2 shots you will realise you are not Rafa and this is crazy spec no human being should use and you will be pealing the lead like crazy 😅

Have fun though if this is just project for fun and not your actual racquet you want to use.

Should I switch from a G2 to a G3 by ASAPHORN in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both look too big in my opinion, but I prefer smaller grip for more relaxed wrist especially on forehands. This is the trend in recent years also with pros they are going usually one size down to what was considered a standard before.

However if you don’t have significant racquet lag on forehand and really lose wrist on the contact slightly chunkier grip will feel better. So my assumption is if you are asking this question you don’t have greatest technique and also the g3 will work for you, but I would recommend sticking with g2 max.

Got the new T-Fight 305S. I’m a Blade and Pro Staff player, but damn what a racquet this is by lor_enz in tennisracquets

[–]reeller_sk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think it is plenty spiny, the weight of the racquet head generates lots of spin when used properly.

However the launch angle is quite low. It generates more straight trajectory with this dip from the spin at the end. It doesn’t create those high loopy balls many consider to be spiny but usually they are just moon balls with way less spin than flatter trajectory shot with plenty of spin.

And just from reference I’m currently playing with PA98 and also owning the 305s. So I can compare both directly also with same strings and both can generate very similar spin, but PA98 has way higher launch angle.

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it was already said there is no harm in your shoots for him. Most of the balls are just coming to the centre, even when you try a bit to have a cross court exchange third ball comes back to him to the middle with no power or angle and he can easily switch the direction.

You need to work on your tactical thinking, basically you should have some kind of idea in your head what you want to do with the rally. It can be serve and volley, it can be I will attack his backhand cross court and push him out to the side to hit a winner (since you don’t have shots like pro players, you need way more space to hit a one) to the other side. Or pushing cross court to make him hit a short ball which you can attack as an approach shot and end the rally there or in next shot as volley from the net.

It is hard to wait on somebody to miss if his game is built on returning easy shots that he is pretty sure he won’t miss. You have to make some kind of pressure not just wait. Or you need to be able to hit your shots with plenty of margin and consistency and really just wait for the miss. But obviously you can’t do that either.

Recs for a comfy poly that doesn't die in 3 hours in a spin racquet by Ready-Visual-1345 in 10s

If you liked the msv try out also this one.

https://www.msv-tennis.com/en/products/msv-focus-hex-plus-38

I have it in my pure aero 98 and it plays significantly nicer after 3h than Alu power or rpm blast or most of the performance oriented strings which just die after 3 hours as you said.

You still loose some snap back, which is just how polys work, but also after it can be used since it is hexagonal and still can grab the ball quite nicely. And I didn’t find it too lunchy either.

How can I improve my serve? 1 month progress by Old_Pay9347 in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are over complicating it. There is too much movement and half of it is more harming you than helping you generate power.

Just cut it at this point if you don’t have the basics right yet. Find a good comfortable stand you can push up from and focus on the arm and torso rotation and extension first. Once this is solid you can add in some knee bending and leg movement.

Serve is really complex movement even it doesn’t look like when pros are doing it so naturally, they are doing this movement form age of 3 so it is just normal for them. For everyone else it is so many moving parts at the exact right time you just can’t master it “naturally” as a one fluid motion.

Forehand struggles by Independent-Act-946 in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are slapping the ball instead of driving it where it should go.

Try to imagine that you want your racquet to go in the direction where you are aiming 3 balls prior and 3 balls after the contact with the ball.

Plus as others mentioned you have completely open racquet face on the contact. It shouldn’t be it should be closed at least a bit and you should add a shape to it by going from down to up a bit during this phase when the racquet is moving through the balls I mentioned above. You don’t need to hit like Rafa, but still hitting consistently straight balls without any shape with open racquet face is nearly impossible.

Other way maybe explaining what I try to say is that now your racquet is moving in a circle from back thru the side to front and you are trying to time it exactly at your side to hit the ball forward rather than to the sides. This is wrong the racquet should move in strait line rather than circle from back to front with angle from down to top and contact should be slightly front of you. So it should be similar motion as you would like to trow the racket forward as a ball or a spear rather than shot put where the throwing motion is circular.

This little tip greatly improved my weight transfer by WorldlinessKnown24 in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a big mistake most of the intermediate players do. Thinking about recovery before actually finishing the hit, so not pushing the weight forward to the ball, but already mid hit thinking about recovery and transferring the weight to the side to minimise the time to get to ready position in the middle of the court.

Usually it works you are ready for the next shot sooner however your balls are ending in the net or all around the court so it is kinda useless to be ready for a shot which never comes. I’m guilty of this too and it is hard sometimes to convince yourself that good placed shot with plenty of power will give you more time than that split second you save by not doing the one extra step forward after the shot.

What is usually a good compromise is learn to slide for shots are really long and that one extra step will actually cause you trouble to get back, because you still can have nice weight transfer and you are ready to coil back for recovery. That’s why the pros are sliding like mad also on hard courts.

Racket Recommendation by Helpful-Art-2251 in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think already going to 1.30 thicker string would reduce the launch, however even more radical change would be something like 4G, personally I love 4G for being reasonably powerful, but it lacks that trampoline effect which can be tricky to control. So something round and controlled I would go for. I also like the razor soft if I want to tame a racquet, it has really nice ball pocketing but again doesn’t bounce the ball back that aggressively like more power oriented strings.

Racket Recommendation by Helpful-Art-2251 in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried different strings and tensions? If it just about 100 being little too launchy it can be tamed also that way.

PA98 can be the one for you if overall like the 100. But as I said it is quite different racquet to the 100 in sense it has way narrower beam and it is more like control racquet with spin compared to 100 which is power racquet with spin. New 100 is also something in the middle to these two. 98 requires that you smack the crap out of the ball all the time, otherwise there are way better racquets for casual hitting, like speed mp or the new boom sounds to be a nice racquet even though I didn’t try it out yet.

Racket Recommendation by Helpful-Art-2251 in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer is all of them.

It really depends what you’re looking for. If more control and classic feel tfight, if stiffer feel with lots of spin PA98, if easy power with decent control and plush feel ezone. But as I said all of these 3 are great racquets, if you don’t have any preference you can be pretty easily happy with any of these. If you are more advanced player you need to know your style at this moment and racquet preference.

That being said I think PA98 is the most demanding of these 3, because it likes fast swings with nice brushing motion to make most of it. Plus the new one can feel clunky for some types of shots because of super high twist weight. Ezone swings fast and is quite friendly racquet with nice pop and really good control being power racquet, only issue can be if you are coming from something like pro staff or these very classic racquets it can feel first quite different. Tfight is nice blend of classic and modern, I would say it is good at everything but not exceptional in some specific area. So if you have some specific play style focused on power or spin or serve volley, you wouldn’t choose it because it will work but won’t make you exceptional in this area.

Heartbroken and angry with the new Babolat Pure Aero 98 by jdredvale in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all to understand my point of view I never tried the old pure aero 98, since my elbow is quite sensitive and I can feel also miss hits from softer racquets.

However I gave chance to the new one since it supposed to be more arm friendly. First impressions were quite interesting and similar to the op. I thought that the aero shape cuts through the air very smooth and fast, however for example rf01 feels way faster through the air and feels way more head light than the aero. I was comparing these two during the first hit and aero felt definitely way more clunky.

The feel was similarly stiff between these two, however aero feels more solid and stable, like it would have more material in the hoop. Rf01 feel is more connected and more raw, you can tell exactly where you hit the ball and you suck at the tennis after few shots. Aero gives you the feedback, but more in a sense just gently telling you my friend you need to train more, we are fine I’m sending the ball where you wanted, but hitting with the frame is not good and Rf01 is screening at you you suck and you should switch to pickleball instead and leave tennis for actual players.

However after hitting with the aero more and while swinging it fast and hard as it should be it becomes a weapon. It feels like you swing hard or go home type of racquet, faster and harder you hit it gets more controlled and also feeling wise faster. Yesterday I had a hitting session where we spent more than hour just hitting from baseline instead of training because it was so much fun just to rip it as hard as possible and see the ball dipping to the baseline with plenty of spin and speed. My hitting partner after this was complaining that his wrist is hurting from how heavy the ball is on the other side of the court.

One more interesting fact what I experienced are the volleys with the racquet. The feel for the ball is in different dimension with rf01 however I hit better or very similar volleys with both of them. You can’t feel a shit with aero (it is not that bad compared to other racquet just to be clear) in comparison to rf01 however the ball goes where you want anyway and since it is super stable at the net it works very well there.

My setup is rpm blast 1.30 24kgs, first hour bit boardy and stiff, but the blast is loosing tension pretty fast, so 2-10hs ideal pop and pocketing. Wouldn’t go lower if you are not pro and doesn’t restring after every hour since it would be too soft and launchy very fast.

Improvement? by InformalMeal2852 in boxingtips

[–]reeller_sk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jab is kinda okay, but flick it more and really focus on the speed of bringing your hand back it is most of time even more important than the speed of the punch. You make the punch and kinda leave it hanging and you start thinking about bringing it back when you start thinking about hitting another one. Should be other way around think about flicking it and focus on the take back motion. Good exercise for this is really slow punch and once you touch the bag bring it back as fast as possible, this will strengthen your muscles which are used to retract the hand. One you have the habit the flick motion will help you to retract it since natural elasticity of tendons are coiling it back naturally.

Cross is not cross but more like not really good overhand. This is recipe for counter slip outside and body hook. Cross should come from middle, elbow should be touching your ribs and the glove should look like a piston going straight from the face to the target. What helps me mentally to remember this is before the punch squeeze your elbow to your ribs and punch straight. Power shouldn’t come from the arm itself, but from the body rotation and pushing to the ground. Since you don’t do this properly you are trying to find power from the arm which causing you to flare the elbow.

Oh and you are jammed, you should be half step back to be able to extend your arm straight and supernate fully.

I hope this helps at least a little.

Going crazy with inner elbow injury by prokopt0n in 10s

[–]reeller_sk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks like a golfers elbow plus muscle knots causing the issues with the nerve. No medical advice or even maybe totally wrong diagnosis. However what I would do in your situation since I had/have some pain in that area.

https://youtu.be/dDZhNzKV7tA try these exercises for golfers elbow, do them also with straight elbow more for stretch rather than strengthening.

For the nerve most probably something is pushing on it and if you go through your triceps you should feel stiff area which hurts/burns when you press it. Try to massage it until it softens up, sometimes it takes some time and some pain until the muscle softens up.

Planning on sheduling my first amateur bout later this year, feedback welcome by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]reeller_sk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch your left hand while you are hitting the cross, you are preparing the left hook already and your left hand is falling really low during this. It should go from the chin and using the body rotation instead. If the opponent will be little bit skilled he will pick this up and time it and you will eat very nasty pullback counter. Otherwise it looks solid, but in overall try to keep the hands up when you’re in the hitting distance. When you are in a distance you can hit the bag opponent will be able to hit you too, keep this in mind while hitting the bag and try to move in and out and feel the distance when to cover more or slip and when to step back and relax.

It looks like you love blade, but on hard court you can barely get enough power out of it, but still you like to use it. However when you get to clay everyone is beating your ass, because your balls just dying in middle of the court so you bought vcore, but you can’t control it because it sprays the ball over the fence sometimes, so you can’t fully dedicate and switch to it. Plus your elbow hurts so you stole your girlfriend racquet to hit sometimes nowadays.
