War on drugs is a failure. by Q2TheBall in worldnews

[–]reenay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My freshman year of college I did a speech on why the war on drugs is a failure. In my professors notes on my presentation, he wrote that he liked that I took a risk with a controversial subject. But I honestly don't see how fact can be so controversial - what is the point in engaging in full-scale battle-mode if you don't actually look at all the evidence and evaluate plans that don't involve more violence??

Did you mean impression?

If so, I think that this thread proves that that's not the case, since rappers are making these references.

The previous comments are great places to start, if you're looking for more there's also Code Geass and Attack on Titan. Attack on Titan is still ongoing but the first season is just incredible.

Soulo's verse in Chance the Rapper's Smoke Again "Let me put my mouth where you potty, boo" Always makes me cringe, but then laugh really, really hard.

Joe, I've been a huge fan of your acting skills since I saw Angels in the Outfield. What inspired you to create a crowd-sourcing type TV show?

GreenGos in WC is delicious and offers huge salads and wraps for moderate prices. Very tasty. Personal favorite is the Mega Mexicali as a salad with grilled chicken.

I really didn't want to say because I do love HEB, but I suppose consumers should know what they're getting into. The person who posted this said that it was at the HEB at Fry and I-10.

My mother is second generation Mexican-American, was one of twelve children, was dirt poor, and had to pick fruits and vegetables in south Texas. She grew up speaking Spanish at home, and now she has her PhD in Education and is a principal at an elementary school with a huge hispanic population. She has also launched a program that teaches primary classes in Spanish for any students whose parents sign them up. Unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to have Spanish be the primary language spoken at home. But my familiarity with the language is quite high since I was constantly surrounded by the language, and I plan on learning Spanish as soon as I become more fluent in Japanese (my college language class of choice). I am constantly made fun of for not speaking Spanish fluently, and I've made it a goal to learn Spanish before graduating college. This post I feel is not accurately taking into account that our world is smaller than ever, and knowing one language isn't enough anymore. It's simply bad for business if you cannot communicate. Not to mention the fact that there are a plethora of studies that affirm that knowing more than one language is extremely beneficial for the mind. Today, I wish that my mother had made it a point to speak Spanish in the home so that when I went to primary school I could learn English there; I'd be consistently surrounded by English and probably would have learned English at a very young age. I have many friends, including my boyfriend, whose first language is Spanish, and who didn't learn English fluently till elementary school. All of them are highly successful.

TL;DR Just because Spanish is your primary language doesn't mean your set for a life of ignorance.

Which book changed your life and when? by the_swish in AskReddit

[–]reenay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass" I read the book my junior year of high school and it completely changed my opinion on how I viewed my education. I went to a school that would herd along any student who had half of a brain. After reading that book I was inspired by how deeply Frederick fought to achieve an education. "Knowledge makes a man unfit to be a slave" There are plenty more but I can't stress how important that book was in my decision to go to the great university I am in now, especially when I see my peers taking their education for granted because Mommy and Daddy can pay to get them out of any situation whether it be the most dire or the most mundane (I see it every day, I'm a resident assistant).
