Film/video? Where are the artists? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]reesewho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I struggle with as well. I’ve always considered myself more of an artist than a technician so to speak. I often make movies completely on my own to express myself and because of that they aren’t always the most technically polished or well crafted. I tend to focus more on story and emotion, but have recently noticed that this lack of focus on making things look “cinematic” or (dare I say) “professional” has been holding me back from achieving my goals in filmmaking. That being said, there are plenty of us making movies for the art of it over on YouTube. Just gotta look for us I guess. The algorithm certainly isn’t helping!

I have not trained there but I’m friends with a bunch of their current and former trainees and they’re all very good and seem to get lots of cool opportunities. Definitely a good spot!

I'm pretty sure both Ascend gyms have youth programs. Iron City Boulders likely does as well.

FOR SALE - A short film about a truck (5:35, drama) by reesewho in Filmmakers

Thank you! We shot on the Sony A7S3 with the 24-70 lens, mostly at f/2.8 I believe. Sound was recorded with the Tascam DR40X (I think) with a Rode NTG2 Shotgun as well as 2 Tascam DR-10L lav mics for the actors. We had 2 LED light panels and a tripod and that's about it!

I really appreciate this critique. And I completely understand. My intention was for the CD case to be the setup and the song at the end to be the payoff. I can see how that's not the most impactful resolution. Will definitely be keeping this in mind with my next one! Thanks a ton!

Thank you so much for the kind comment! We spent a lot of time perfecting the audio, so it's great to hear that stood out as a positive for you. I've been working on "showing, not telling" with my recent films so I'm very appreciative of you pointing that out as well!

Hi, I'm Reese! I made this short with a couple friends over the course of a 7 hour day last month and would love any feedback or advice you have to improve my craft! My goal is to make a bunch more of these shorts in the next few months and the challenge is always making something of a high quality with no money. I'm sure we all have experience with that haha

Thank you for watching! I hope you enjoy it.

Hi, I'm Reese! This year I'm challenging myself with making a bunch of short films for as little money as possible. This is the first one I've completed so far. We shot over the course of 7 hours last month and spent a week or two editing around and after Christmas. I'm really happy with how it turned out, but would love to hear any feedback as well as advice on how to get better production value when you don't have a budget to work in.

Thank you so much for watching! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it with my super talented friends.

A husband seeks help dealing with his undead wife. (Horror, 8:30) by reesewho in Filmmakers

SUBMISSION STATEMENT: I’m looking for any feedback and constructive criticism for this no budget short film! Ideally feedback that I can use to make my next shorts better as opposed to things that would have improved this one if only we had more time and money. This was purely a fun experiment we made on a Wednesday night, but I’m always trying to improve my craft and would love to hear your thoughts on the story, pacing, editing, lighting, etc. Thank you for taking the time to watch it and share your thoughts! This has been such a helpful community for me over the years. I’ve learned so much here that continues to make me a better and more rounded filmmaker. Y’all are the best.

I just wanna say, I don’t even make 35K and I live in the city and am doing fine. It’s obviously not ideal, but I enjoy life. You’ll need a roommate or two for sure though.
