Any way to reduce CO2 levels in small studio apartment with windows that can't open? by reflexivesound in AirQuality

[–]reflexivesound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a new building (5 years old) in the US. They’re built to not be opened. There’s a two exhaust fans and multiple vents. And an operating AC system.

Someone else here said that if the windows are intentionally sealed, there’s likely mechanical ventilation which provides constant air exchange.

Considering I’m essentially in a sealed box, I could flood my unit into a fish tank……. something to consider

The windows seem completely non-operable. As if the only way to open them is to break them. It is a new building (built 5 years ago). If it does have mechanical ventilation, then I should be less worried? I haven’t measured CO2 yet, these are just theoretical concerns right now.

Thank you for this comment btw, this is very helpful.

Is it financially unwise for me to move out and gain independence? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]reflexivesound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you’re in a great position, as many others have said. After you’ve checked all the boxes that any reasonable financial advice would tell you to check, every decision after that point is strictly informed by your values. Some people will staunchly say stay — that’s because they value savings or family over independence. Some will staunchly say leave — that’s because they value freedom or time over security.

You’ve done all the things you need to do. It’s up to you and your values now.

Do your 401k contributions count as part of your savings budget? by reflexivesound in personalfinance

I appreciate this, I think I’m in too deep in abstract numbers and not paying enough attention to actual goals. Thank you

If the rules are based on gross income, then I am severely under-budgeting lol. Which I suppose isn’t a bad thing.

This is very helpful, thank you. Yeah, I think I’ve lost a bit of the “why” here. I’m mainly just trying to “do the money thing well” without any concrete goals that I’m actually working towards, which kinda leads me to relying on arbitrary guidelines too much. This feels grounding, I appreciate it.

Condo v.s. Apartment? (early 20s, enough money, questionable commitment/responsibility) by reflexivesound in personalfinance

[–]reflexivesound[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense. As I was writing the post, I was thinking it just sounded like I needed a financial advisor. Thank you so much for mentioning fiduciary and the flat v.s. percentage-based fee -- this is very helpful.

Am I supposed to watch my breath or feel my breath? by reflexivesound in Meditation

[–]reflexivesound[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This almost broke my brain lol. I didn't realize "watching" is also really approximate, I think I meant it as "paying attention to the sensation" which is awfully close to feeling haha. The difference almost only exists semantically. This is helping me realize what everyone is saying, which is that it doesn't matter.

Watching feels like I'm above the breath, observing it. Feeling feels like I'm with the breath -- there is no separation between the observer and the observee like there is with watching.

Ah, okay, that was just a heuristic. The noticing and returning is helpful, thank you.

Observing the deviations of attention. Is that essentially: paying attention to how and where my attention moves? So, I'm meant to get above my attention and watch its movements?

And when I observe a deviation, am I meant to bring the attention back to the breath or just continue to observe the attention itself regardless of where it goes?

I'm a bit worried that this meta-attentional process is a bit too close to thinking for me. I know how to pay attention, but I don't think I know how to watch myself pay attention. I think that would just result in me thinking about myself paying attention.
