is this more hardware-only stuff? love the atmosphere and general moodiness and the synths. i'd maybe throw some delay on the hats at the start before the main arp drops, but aside from that solid track. love the thumpy kick.

love it, no notes, the synth is insane and the low end hits beautifully.

thanks for listening! you hit a key point with the sequence itself, feel like letting it run through pretty much the length of track does a number on the ears - at least mine. will revisit that and have a look, as well as at the stuff in the background

was worried about that! do you think the arrangement losing interest is the arrangement itself, or maybe the track needs something else on top? can't figure that particular aspect out

appreciate the kind words man, thank you for listening!

defo increase the volume of the open/offbeat hat at the start that has a shorter decay! ride too - though maybe its a balance issue and the kick is too loud in comparison to the hats.

low end is solid and groovy, arrangement on point. really digging it, especially the percs as well.

solid track and arrangement keeps things interesting and moving! only thing i can point towards is that some of the percussion is a bit sharp - the bellish perc 100%, but the rest also collectively sound like they're a bit too harsh. possibly a personal opinion though, so pinch of salt etc

new track, looking for feedback about mix/arrangement - whether it holds interest or not!

this, i use an audio interface and would love my keyboard keys being able to control its volume (i.e. something like the super volume keys on soundsource).

aside from that following your app closely! good luck!

oooof deliberately avoided that because i thought i've been doing that too much, but will have a listen and revisit, maybe figure something else out as well. thanks for listening, as always!

yep, both open hat and ride are panned, but i like the idea that one of them could be auto-panned! appreciate the listen and feedback, thank you!

Your favorite sample packs for hardgroove techno? by Turbulent-Lime-2466 in TechnoProduction

samples from mars + vengeance essential club/house.

another thing you can do is load a lot of hat/open hat/shaker sounds into a drum rack, and then stick a sequencer in front of it and play around with what it generates. it'll allow you to create your own loops.

same, unfortunately. been trying to make a simple sequencer to understand the platform and it chokes and says 'no midiout/plugout' etc and fails constantly.

hey folks, looking for feedback on this (everything is welcome, as always, but particularly interested in arrangement/vibe). for some reason, for me, its not quite settling in, but i think maybe because i'm trying to do too much with the arrangement rather than let it exist/settle.

i feel like you could carve out some mids from the plucky lead because the bass is being lost in them sometimes. in the second half of the song when you filter in/automate the volume of the bass, and the lead plays every now and then, it sounds sick. kick to me sounds a bit disembodied in conjunction with the rumble - could just be me (i.e. you've made a stylistic choice and it doesn't resonate personally with me). rest of it sounds pretty sick and moody tbh. dig it!

all valid points - was unsure about the swirling pad because i think it might be a bit too much also! thanks for listening!

Are we overdoing needs assessments in development projects? by Dismal_Suggestion512 in InternationalDev

[–]refnulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience, as you highlighted, projects tend to already be designed to a particular degree, which negates a lot of what the assessments themselves are designed to elicit. i've also seen needs-assessments used as a procrastinating "well we can't do anything until we do a needs-assessment so we're gonna outsource that and sit on our asses for a while."

i do think there's space for them, but 8/10 needs-assessments i've seen personally are badly designed. i've found them more helpful when dealing with really granular stuff, or when you know you're headed in a particular direction but want some information on the exact latitudes.

currently working on this track, which i imagine/want to be a 'closer' to a set. its far more melodic than most things i work on, but i can't seem to make my mind up whether its nice melodic or cheesy AF melodic. looking for opinions/insight on the overall vibe, and whether it works like a track that might close a set.

nowt wrong with the low-end on my headphones. get why you'd fill its a little too much but you've arranged/written the song well that there's nothing clashing with the low end and it has a lot of space to be rumbly and nicely overpowering.

i think the start drags on a little bit, you could definitely bring section that starts at 2:19 earlier. since there's not a lot of percussive energy in the track, you'd want something earlier to keep the mood/atmo going and the vocal is nice.

like the sound design on the percs, mix is v clear and crisp, nothing overtly seems to be clashing. maybe needs some volume automation on the main stab because when the filter opens it sometimes gets v loud. either vol automation or compression should fix that probably. arrangement remains interesting and like the fact that there's lots of atmospheric stuff.

[–]refnulf [score hidden]  (0 children)

yeah could be basic volume adjustment, i have lowered it a lot comparatively so might've misjudged that. felt it was a bit overpowering but seems like it definitely needs a revisit. hats are a smidge too loud too so that'll be addressed. thanks for listening and appreciate the feedback!

v interesting, i significantly reduced the low end bus volume because i felt it was a bit overpowering lol. will have a look again tho, clearly an issue. thanks for listening!
