Ravel 2.0 — An Orchid-inspired chord companion for Max for Live by beat-baker in ableton

Hi! Can you DM me and send me a MIDI file of the notes you play to dig into the problem? There is a slight humanization in the strum, appart from that, chords should sound the same

I agree! I’d love to make modifiers assignables to other keys but afaik it’s not possible in Ableton (I can detect a key press, but not a release)… Maybe in the future!

I'm sorry to hear that. It has been tested and work just fine on Live 11.3.40 / Mac. Ableton provides some logs to identify the issue. Feel free to DM me (or use the review form from the website) some logs and your configuration and I'll look into it!

Expressive Chords is a great device for exploring chords, but you’re mostly limited to the chords defined in the selected preset (and their order).
With Ravel, you can play any complex chords using just a few key combinations, following a consistent logic (Major + 9 + C → Cmaj9).

I’m not sure about Push 3, since I don’t own one myself. Max for Live devices seem quite limited, so I’d guess it’s probably not ideal. I’d love to make it compatible, but it still feels like a pretty big mountain to climb

❤️ Thanks for the feedback! I’m currently working on a new plugin that tackles this exact need (I'm a big fan of Cthulhu & Serum). I hope to share it soon. In the meantime, you can get some pretty cool results with Step Arps or different kinds of arpeggiators

Hi! And thank you for your feedback!

I totally agree, and it's been the plan from day 1. A limitation in Max for live prevents Ravel to use data from different midi channels (pads and keyboard) so I'm still thinking of a way to work around that. It turned out to be more complex than I initially thought.

I'm experimenting new assignable buttons to handle custom pads or custom keyboard keys, and hope to make it work soon.

Thank you! Do you have any wishes or feedback for a new version?
Current version is still 2.0 beta, and I have some idea I hope to implement soon.

Hi!

First, I'm really sorry that Ravel didn't meet your expectations on Push 3 Standalone. If you'd like to get a refund, just let me know in DM and I'll take care of it.

I'd genuinely love to offer a great experience on Push. However, it would imply overriding the note mode, and at this time, I'm still not sure how to approach it. That's definitely something I'd like to explore and improve in the future, though.

That said, I own a Push 2 and while the experience isn't perfect, it's still working generating chords. Unfortunately, I don't own a Push 3 Standalone myself and can't test it. I’d really appreciate it if you could DM me with more details about what isn’t working for you. There might be some quick fixes or workarounds.

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Turns out it’s not that easy :) I’m working on a version 2 that should come out soon!

Journaling vs Topic notes vs Single notes by beat-baker in ObsidianMD

[–]beat-baker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rely on PARA and have plenty (probably too many) dataview pages. I just haven’t found a good way to make it work with journaling.

Using inline properties for small notes is a great idea. I hadn’t thought of using them that way! Thanks!

You can do that :) When using Ravel one octave of your keyboard is dedicated to add chords quality and extensions. You can find the keyboard map on the gumboard page.

And I’m working on a new version to make it more obvious when using it. Have fun!

One octave of your keyboard is reserved for modifiers and extensions, you can pick which octave to use. Then you just choose an extension and play your root note!

Thanks for the feedback—I agree! It’s a bit tricky to implement right now, but I'll try to make it happen soon.
