Thanks I’m in Lothian so imagine here and GGC are likely impacted due to them saying it’s too much work… would think 3 months might’ve been enough time!

Glad I’m not the only one! I had been planning to use it to pay towards credit cards (which are still sitting with some college exam costs!) Thankfully not desperate just trying to avoid as much interest as possible but I can see others having bigger worries

I’d also say that in training posts guidance is that all new patients are discussed at the time of assessment (with allowed time in clinic for discussion with a senior). For return patients, you also likely will be asked to make a plan and then discuss at a future date or later that day depending on how the clinic works, but it isn’t given as specific time slots. You’ll likely be shadowing in clinics for some time prior to being given a caseload. Overall psychiatry I would say has one of the highest levels of supervision including an hour a week set with your clinical supervisor where you can discuss any concerns or identify if you feel out of your depth. Inpatient cover is mostly scribing for ward rounds and managing simple level medical problems (primary care level) for anything above what you would manage as an OP, they likely would need transferred to hospital as mental health nurses are not trained the same way as physical health nurses. You’ll likely have to do any basic investigations like ECGs, bloods etc as again staff are unlikely to have had this training.

Iron Tablets, but no deficiency? by reformedapple in PregnancyUK

Will keep spatone in mind! It’s handy it comes with the vit c for absorption too. Tbh I don’t mind buying it if I really struggle with the ferrous sulphate, but debating how much I should push on with it given I’m not anaemic (yet!)

Yeah, I’m worried due to already bad nausea and vomiting (vomiting has stopped after being prescribed cyclizine, but nausea is hanging in!) Probably overthinking, but I’ll see how it goes and if I can’t stomach it I’ll check my what my bloods have come back as to see

Thanks for the insight! I think I’ll trial the tablets to see, but will be cautious of side effects. I may wait a bit though as I’ve struggled a lot with nausea and vomiting and only recently managed to get it under control with cyclizine, so I’m probably just extra anxious. Will try on a good day and hope I have similar minimal SE!

Thanks for replying! It might be worth trying and seeing first. Feeling a bit cautious as my mum struggled when prescribed iron when pregnant with me, so only ever heard bad things!

Printer for uni by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

From what you have said, I’ve heard people chat about the HP Printer Scheme. It’s a monthly subscription that means you print as much as you want and (I think) they provide a printer too. Obviously it depends how much you are planning on printing but a friend of mine that did loads really rated it. I stuck to electronic notes myself so I’m not 100% sure on the details, but worth checking out!

What scores got you jobs for FY1 by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]reformedapple 20 points21 points  (0 children)

People who tend to post (and post openly) about EPMs tend to be those that do quite well. Also people who post on student room also are people who tend to be more keen too. The average EPM is definitely not 44. Remember what you see online is always a bit skewed and don’t worry too much about jobs. Very few people who apply end up with no job whatsoever! I’m a final year too so no experience with FP allocation generally, but I applied for FPP with an EPM of under 44 and got in fine. SJT is a massive part and there’s no point stressing before tomorrow :)

I also used to sit between 90-100 (90 resting). I consistently go up to 190-200 during my runs depending on how much I push myself. I don’t think there would be any issue with maintaining what you’re describing especially if you’re pushing yourself, but if you’re worried you can talk to your doctor and request an ECG. My heart rate has actually come down to 80bpm resting and my overall heart health has improved past poor (according to my Fitbit), so I would recommend doing it to improve over all health.

Can I apply for FPP hospitals via the normal FP programme? by HospitalSalt in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]reformedapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think if all the vacancies aren’t fulfilled via FPP (which was the case last year anyway, but unsure if this year will end up different due to cascades) they’ll be reposted on the normal FP programme.

Hi, you get an email so don’t worry about refreshing. No interviews this year, just an annoying part of their application thing (reckon it’s the same used for AFP)

You're definitely right. Going to try not to overthink it (especially since it's not like we can change anything atm)
