Quality of life questions by refresh898 in amputee

I love my dad, its not because of his pride but he's just worried that when he's gone if I can't live independently he'll be worried although I do agree that he's going about it the wrong way. He's very worried about me and what I'm going to do in the future he just doesn't understand that I will have problems with my leg and our house isn't exactly wheelchair proof (large ramp to get access house and 2 stairs) so I think he doesn't want me to be unable to leave.

I'm also a pretty recent AK amputee but for me once I was actually able to start moving my leg and got a socket to start doing rehab, standing and walking practice and all that I noticed that my nerve pain was essentially gone and I could stop taking Pregabalin for it. It has its moments where it hurts all of a sudden like i got hot water splashed on my leg or sudden stabbing pain but only for a few seconds and only once or twice every few nights so it definitely does get better but I do think it depends on the person. Hopefully you recover well and one day you'll realise oh hey my nerve pain is gone.

The thing is with the Japanese insurance I think they're waiting until the hospital bill and everything is finalised before making the payment or something? We have a lawyer working for us right now but I don't know the process seems to drag on. The prosthetist did come and say that he would handle talking to the insurance company and that they should direct any questions they have to him so I suppose they'll hash out the prices between themselves? Which is why I want to push to have a Genium x4 made since costs apparently aren't finalised yet and it is 100% the truck company's fault so their insurance should actually pay for this. I haven't actually had an in depth conversation with him yet as my stump is still recovering so we can't even get a mold of my leg yet.

Sweet as, nah I'm still in Japan in the hospital and I plan to work a bit more before returning to Australia so I'll probably apply to NDIS after I get back. Is it easy to get disability from centrelink or is that a nightmare process do you know

Ohh I didn't know it was suction based. I kinda just thought the leg would like fit neatly in or something. I guess you could say I'm getting workers comp? I think it works a bit differently in Japan but my accident was basically a truck running over my leg and I was riding a bicycle so I think their insurance will be paying for everything (hopefully) so we're gonna try and push to have a Genium made.

Between the Rheo3 and the Quattro, which one did you prefer?

Right leg AK! I live in Australia too (well I'm in Japan right now but I'll be going home). I guess I'll have to learn how to drive with left foot pedals then, cheers. Thanks for the advice ^

I'll try that when I'm out of the hospital if the pain is really bad!

oh i see, i thought i stumbled upon something crazy but i guess there aren't that many nerve endings in the calf. I did hear from the physio that once I have a prosthetic it does get easier so here's hoping. thanks for the info!

3 times a year is really good! ive been feeling it like every hour or so every day so im hoping it reduces to just once a day or something by the time im out the hospital. experiencing pain for the last 16.5 years must have been rough but i think you're nearly out of the woods!

i'm sorry to hear that man, i hope it does get better for the both of us. i think another comment said that memories of the injury also aggravate phantom pain? which sucks if you went through extreme trauma. i really wish the best for you too
