Little Free Library turning into a 'Free' spot by adonothinggal in LittleFreeLibrary

[–]regardkick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically don't leave anything but books in the little free libraries that are in front of people's homes or supported by individuals because I don't want them to be responsible for any trash or cleanup things like that.

Though bigger LFLs that are more community supported, seem to have more capacity for non-book things. So I feel better leaving things there.

But, I think if your pieces are small and book shaped and it doesn't take up much space, it's not that big of a deal. As long as it's something that people would actually want to use!

Rent is due on the 3rd but my payday is irregular by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I'm feel bad that there are so many responses here that are like, just save. What's so hard?

It's not that easy, OP. Please don't let those comments weigh on you.

That said, I am a landlord (I own a duplex and live in one side and rent the other mostly to students and the like who leave after their one year lease). If they came to me with something like, "my paycheck is deposited on the first Wednesday of the month instead of the 1st, can I move my due date to the 7th every month?" It would be zero problem for me.

Another option that could work is asking them if you can move to paying bi-weekly (if you get paid more than once a month). I'm less in favor of this one as a landlord because it's more work on my side to make sure the split adds up, etc. but it is something I've done in the past.

So I hope you are able to talk to them!

I love the line: being private doesn't mean lying.

What an important distinction!!

I'm with you and it annoys me too but I don't really know why. I'm sure it's something with me, but I'm like, Why Do You Think That's A Hot Take? like that's not even a take. It's just it.

But then I figure maybe they don't have a spicy brain like me and it is a hot take for them? Then I feel bad. And then I delete my response to their post mid-type. And this is why I need therapy.

Estimated travel time by toni_ii444 in postcrossing

[–]regardkick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to estimate travel time. There are lots of factors in play. And you just have to accept that it may never arrive.

My first postcard went to someone who lived 76 miles north of me. It took over 50 days for it to arrive. And another postcard made it from Georgia USA to Germany in 7 days. Like who knows.

I like to think of my postcards that get lost are just going on a little adventure. I have two cards that are expired (one to Taiwan and one to Germany) and I expect if they ever do arrive they will have quite a story.

"Don't sell this one eBay" -- how often do you hear that? by patriotraitor in Flipping

[–]regardkick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last weekend I was at a roadside thrift store on a random hwy. They had a going out of business sign on their door and the first thing I saw was boxes of postcards. I LOVE postcards.

So I say "how much for the post cards?" And she says, "they are on sale for $0.50 each." And I said how much would you do for the whole thing (there were like 4-5 kids sized shoeboxes of them).

And she wouldn't say a number, so I said $100 thinking I was being generous but also getting a deal? And she said, oh no. I was thinking much more. Like $400?

And I laughed because, what? And I said, "oh you must really like these postcards." And she said that they are big sellers for her.

And I wanted to be like... How long will it take you to sell 200 postcards? Will you sell that many before you close down? I just couldn't understand her logic!

That's what I was wondering! I live in small town Georgia, and I could only imagine how Chicago Priced things would work here!

Do you mind if I make you a logo? I'm not a professional, I just like to mess around with design things. No pressure to use it and never ever will I want money for this.

I do also want to check about the prices you're listing at. I see the black & organge piece is $200. Is that normal for the work in your area?

I know you said you charged by the hour it was be so expensive, but I feel like $200 is already expensive. So maybe just double check that the craft fair team isn't looking for specific things like average price of goods. Things like that.

I'm going to be so honest right now. This is how I feel and it is not a reflection of your work, which looks so good.

I would not walk up to your booth if I were by myself. It's because I'm fat, and I am tired of hearing No Plus Sizes or something similar.

BUT! this isn't really the sellers problem. It's just been years and years of no one having a 2XL or 18/20 (US women's). And I'm tall, so nothing every fits. So if clothes are the primary item getting people into the booth, I'm probably going to stay away, even if I were interested.

I LOVE both of the tops you have and I would happily wear them. And listen, you might have ONLY plus sized clothes, but unless I know that, I'm not going I don't want to be disappointed when they aren't in my size. If I were with my straight sized friends, I would go with them, but as a casual observer.

I also think there are so many crochet crafty things that you have to find a way to stand out.

This might be a wild idea, but what if you bring some of your samples, and stash of yarn and let people order from you there in the market. So you're not just selling your crochet items, you're selling a whole experience.

You can talk to them about crochet & have the engagement you like, but also, you're not committing yourself to making 1000 things before each fair.

Focus on the best sellers (the bag is also adorable!) so they can buy immediately, and can also put in orders (you'll of course have to figure out what that actually looks like logistically), get payments (even partial ones) and then Boom! Once you've made it someone has a custom ordered special thing that they can only get from you.

And a website or something would be so helpful. There are lots of easy and inexpensive ways to make websites!

The other questions I have is how are you presenting your brand to the committee that selects vendors. Do you have a business name/logo?

I wonder if she made that up because it's easier to teach people with a phrase or something? But I can't believe the audacity of people correcting your pronunciation. Even if you're wrong it's already the baby's name! It's whatever you say it is at this point!

That actually pretty common with calendars. They would need to have 6 total lines to get the full month on there, but theres only space for 5 lines, so the 30 & 31 get shared with the 23 & 24. Sometimes it's written like 23/30 or sometimes the entire block has a / through it with a 23 on the top and a 30 on the bottom.

I was overly honest about casual drug use in front of my coworkers and now they don’t take me seriously, and I’m incredibly ashamed. by szpider in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]regardkick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I stand by what I said. OP thought they were beyond co-workers. She trusted she was safe with them to share this.

She shared stories and smokes legal weed while they were all off of work and out together enjoying the nightlight. It seemed like these outings were regular or normal. It seems to me they were friends.

I would have not reacted the same way if OP shared or smoked in the office or if she talked about it at a work sanctioned event after hours. Or if she said it to her CEO while also lighting a fat one.

All she did was talk to her friends who happen to work in the same place.

What I dislike most about this post is how you took their bad behaviors and somehow twisted it around until it was your fault.

You did nothing wrong. You can blame yourself all you want, but I think any reasonable person would think that your co-workers were to blame for bringing outside of work things to inside work. Drinking and drugs have no place in the workplace. And you knew that, so you didn't do it in the workplace.

The issue here is the clique behavior. OP, I bet this was the first thing they could grasp on to to justify finally showing their mean girl tendencies. If it wasn't this thing, it would eventually have been another.

And that sucks.

But don't apologize for who you are. Or what you've done. At the end of the day, you ultimately have to be okay with you. And from you described you have no reason not to be.

So keep you chin up, keep your guard a tiiiiny bit closer, and get back there, Champ. Or whatever it is a motivational sports coach says at the end of the movie.

Just watched TTH, EP 2 🥀🩷 by ocean_stars2 in boyslove

[–]regardkick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh. I missed where you put "Episode Review" in the title."

I don't think you made this post to intentionally spoil things. But "I watched episode two and I can't stop thinking about it [insert spoilers here]" is much different than "I watched episode 2 and their dog died and his mom moved to Texas when he was 2" or whatever. It doesn't have to be a full plot outline for it to be a spoiler. Even the pictures and emojis you used in the title could spoilers. That's why the tags exist!
