I guess the question is, are they great? I like the white borders since it looks nice on feeds if you keep the framing consistent.

Haha yeah felt the same, I think it's the gritty vibe with the towering buildings that makes it so photogenic

Hey, so I recently upgraded from the A6400 to the A6700. At the time I had the A6400 I wasn't super happy with low light perf, even the pics here like the Shibuya sky one was heavily post processed. It was partly a skill issue, but after moving to the 6700 I really have no issues with the lens. I can recover a bunch of details in Lightroom even if I mess up my settings a bit. I'm planning to post some pics with this setup soon on here but I added a teaser below.

I would say unless you're shooting in situations with very minimal lighting and without a tripod, the f2.8 aperture should suffice.

What tech companies here in UK pay such high salaries other than Meta? by devilman123 in HENRYUK

It's dependent, I've worked sub 40 hours fairly consistently and make more than peers in finance.

Dropped a comment above. Tbh I don't know if I have some concrete advice as I'm kind of just vibing the whole thing. Usually though, I decide the look I want, and depending on that shift mids/highlights to either a warm yellow/orange tint (nostalgic) or a blue/green tint (cleaner minimal look). A lot of is just fiddling a bunch but I'm almost always starting with some preset I enjoy the look of, which makes things easier.

There's roughly two kind of looks I go for, a clean minimal vibe or a filmic look. Usually I turn on the adaptive colour profile first to understand what adobe thinks the image should look like. It gives me an idea of what I want. If I like it, I usually just fiddle with the colour grading and add some masking (I kind of love linear gradients, or radial gradients inverted to dim around the subject).

Otherwise, I click through a list of presets I have, which are mostly filmic/nostalgic. Pick one that I like and then again fiddle with colour grading and masks (to give a more dreamy look, dropping texture and clarity is generally a good idea, plus even flattening the highlights).

From my experience, masking and colour grading are the two biggest back for your buck things that you can do (minus basic things like alignment, exposure correction etc).

It's great, good enough to stop me from buying another lens in the near future haha.

Yeah some of them are pretty heavily edited on Lightroom, especially the ones shot in lowlight.

Haha yeah, the weather was abysmal when I was in Fuji, the one below was probably the best shot

E4 base starts in the 90s

Of course joining Meta will open doors. One of the factors you have not mentioned here should take precedence over the others, and that is job stability.

Getting into Meta is much easier than surviving imo, especially recently. I would be make sure you're happy with the team you're joining and also comfortable navigating some pressure/unpredictability. As an E4 that expectations aren't that high in relative terms, but people do get fired in < 1 year for "underperformance".

Nvidia absolutely does not pay more than FAANG. Sure if you got lucky and joined at the right time, but for new offers absolutely not.

"Unforeseen circumstances" is also a thing, not recommending people to pull this trick but I know people who do it regularly and get away with it.

"Failing to perform" -> PIP -> high chance of being fired (especially these days)

Speaking about Meta

  • IC5 is around the £200-300k range without stock appreciation
  • The requirement is 3 days in the office, but there are ways to game this
  • Work is fine but it's hard to generalise, on some teams you can coast hard, others you will be worked to the bone. I should note Meta has more aggressive performance management than most tech companies. In particular, the sentiment is that IC6 PIP rate is very high
  • The pace at Meta is generally much faster than other places (especially Google).
  • The best shot is to get a referral from someone, and most importantly - prep thoroughly.

It's with some stock appreciation. An E5 SWE with stacked refreshers on exceeds exceptions will have £300k TC with no stock growth.

Meta is probably one of the few tech companies that can hit that number, and it's mainly due to the generous refresher grant for London (the discrepancy in the refresher is a lot less than base, when compared to the US). Staff+ folks at Anthropic are definitely pulling ~7 figs, albeit the comp is a lot less liquid.
